Thank you so much Woody and Gus for reacting to my video and creating this hilarious masterpiece. I thought the best way to honour it, was to do my own reaction. You guys have a fantastic channel and are teaching people so much about diving safety and the beauty of the underwater world.

    Woody and Gus are absolute legends, and Im stoked to be part of a reaction video chain. The internet can be a pretty great place to meet other divers who love the oceans as much as I do. I do really appreciate Gus and many comments calling out some of the jokes being made. I’m not offended, but it is 2024, so let's stop making it ok to objectify women. Hello Ocean Pancake! Here and subscribed from Dive Talk. Love everything dive related. I preceded Gus and Woody in the cave community by 30 years. No rebreathers, we used steel 95 doubles, with stage bottles. No dry suits, 1/4" wet suits with hoods (72 degree water, got cold during motionless deco, which could be quite lengthy. Computers were primitive, Google Orca Edge! We carried US Navy extreme exposure tables as a back up. Mixed O2 and Tri Mix from welding cylinders in my garage....how the hell am I still alive! hahaha

    Got a call one eve from an excited buddy. He had gone to a local mine to practice and adjust his new sidemount gear. He dropped down in one corner of the "lake" and the bottom kept dropping. He got to almost 200ft and realized it was a cave entrance. Next night we dove it together and found it was a huge u/w cavern. We kept going back adjusting our gas mix until we reached an enormous u/w room at 310 ft. Our lights could not even reach wall to wall or floor to ceiling. After the dive we were talking and my buddy said, "Do you realize more people have been on the moon than in that cave? You and I are the only ones on earth to have ever been there!" I got chills. So many stories, so many memories. I leave it to the younger folk to pursue exploration now, happy watching the pretty fish in the ocean! Your channel is excellent. Love your professionalism and your genuine devotion to our environment. Class lady, you are a role model!

    Katt, is amazing and so natural, I love her. I hope she don't mind, but I had to tell this. I would love to dive with her, I believe there is so much I could learn from her. To be honest, I don't like those, who think, just because someone is younger then you you can't learn anything from them, this is so wrong, we can learn so much from each other. Yes even instructors from their students, for examble: the mask clean, if the instructor saw, you didn't it right, they lean from them. How? When I get my OWD, my dive instructor had his head at around 30° so you saw him from front but also the gap between mask and skin, so you saw him moveing the mask. I guess he did this because of his experiance. When I did my AOWD PADI, I had a young instructor, he showed me the skills too, but just from the front, so if I didn't already know how it works, I wouldn't know how he did. This is my own experiance, this is why I believe we always learn from both and most instructor, not just diving are just great because they leaned from the students too, like how could I teach it better etc. I would love to know what Katt things about. This is exactly the point, people who had a real high knowledge, like them or Katt, don't need to show off. Of course it's funny to show off sometimes, but those do it for fun. My experiance with those who realy show off, is they are mostly empty like nothing, they never thought by themselves and mostly they don't know anything. It's my experiance, so I wonder what is your experiance?

    As women (and especially in the dive industry) we've been very much conditioned to laugh it off. Every boat trip, there's at least one person making these jokes. Finally got to watch this video as I said I would. I found this channel just today via Dive Talk. I'm a great swimmer but a non-diver. And I'm now a new subscriber to this channel. Glad your as fun and chill in your videos as you are when you dive! You seem pretty humble that's what I also like about Gus and Woody. They always explain things well to both divers and non-divers. While I do believe they are well educated when it comes to diving and can dive well. They will constantly say they are not that good etc. Sure it's true they are not experts or diving legends. But they are better than they give themselfs credit. Woody and Gus could sit back and gloat and be all that. But no they are humble and make mistakes and own up to them. Not saying that's the only way to do content on KZread but it goes a long way to being lovable. Great video and this seems like an interesting channel.

    That's a heart warming review from those folks! 😊 I work as an instructor in Thailand. I now feel like the weirdo (and my coworkers tease me all the time about it 😂) on my boat as I typically don't use wetsuits. We have thermoclines here (especially in the last couple months) where the temp can drop fairly quickly from 29c to as low as 19c and I regularly wear just tech pants and a rash guard and feel quite comfortable. Is this just me? Or, has anyone had this experience? Even a 3m makes me feel like I'm in a sauna at 23c.

    You're a very lucky diver! I wish I didn't have to have all that extra bulk, weights and effort of gearing up. Not to mention long drying times and that wetsuits are big suitcase space takers.

    I worked mostly in the Red Sea, no thermoclines there, I used a 2.5mm shortie in summer to a 5mm full length in winter. temps ranged from 18c in winter to 31c in summer.

    It really depends on the person. I used to wear just a shorty. Now that I'm older and a better diver, I move much less (like Katt mentioned) and get colder so I wear a 5mm wetsuit plus a Thermocline hooded vest in the tropics (28-29 C water). When cave diving in Mexico I often make 3 hour dives in 24 C water and that wetsuit is not enough so I use a drysuit. With the added benefit that it allows me to fine tune my trim, have backup buoyancy in case my BCD rips and it has a P-valve installed :D

  • @sunriseGo

    @sunriseGo

    I agree with @Yggrasil42. Really depends on the person. In my dive club in Germany we have every type. People going into the lake in summer (20-25°C at the upper part of the lake) with their dry suit and people like me going for a 40min dive in December (8-9°C) with a wet suit (7mm) and a shorty on top. I find that having done cardio exercises some hours before diving really helps me to stay warm.

I assume you’re comparatively young, and want to encourage you to stick at it, learn more skills, and get as much joy as I have from recreational relaxed diving. A GBR liveaboard to the outer reef (travel north from Cairns to Lizard Island, not the other way) is an incredibly beautiful experience and very accessible. The Rowley Shoals off Broome is comparable, though more expensive. Stay humble & safe in what you do, and have fun. You’ve some amazing times in front of you.

    In my experience, there has always been those who over-promote the need to use as little gas as possible on a dive. They become statues in the water and like to compare how much air they have left after a dive. I am not negating the benefits of efficient methods of breathing but think it sometimes goes to far. It should not detract from your enjoyment on a dive to go here, there or investigate a crevis just so you have 100 lbs more at the end of the dive. If the dive is properly planned and executed, it will remain safe.
