Yep - masks are important, I’ve seen notices from the local dive shops saying NO COSTCO MASKS/FINS/SNORKELS ALLOWED IN CLASS. My mom who will never scuba dive asked me about getting a better snorkeling mask - I told her go to the dive shop and buy a Tusa. She said I was right. I use a Tusa myself, probably the best fitting mask for my face. And yes, totally agree on getting certified at home. I can’t travel due to finances - but the diving in California is challenging but rewarding and I know when I do dive somewhere warmer and more exotic, I’ll be a better diver for it.

Hi Katt. I spent about $150 for a Rx Mask. I had a hard time hearing everything you said about 30M. There was Background noises on the video. I know about the Deco Stop, Shorter times, And the "Nark'd" bit. The Shop asked me about AOW when I was returning their gear from the OW Course. I'm doing to impress a Special Lady in my life!!! The one who Inspired me to finally get OW Certified. Vielen Dank Sally!!!

tbh, the bigger deal in AOW is things like navigation and tricks to deploying an SMB nicely. From a practical standpoint for simple, guided, recreational dives, breathing on a reg is breathing on a reg (you said you know about the shorter times, etc so won't go into that)., and breathing on a reg at 20 is the same as at 30 as at 40... but 10m differences are a great way to charge you hundreds of bucks at a time But you need to be in the habit of checking your no deco limit, and your gas more regularly as you rip through both of them faster with depth. Do the 40m and you can see the NDL just burning down. Try to combine the AOW with a Nitrox cert, it'll give you more flexibility so you're never stuck with a dive place saying you can't dive because they're using Nitrox.

Hey Katt, I ask you, because of your background, knowledge and because I know how much care you take to the ocean. I got since a month a brand new bcd, Hollis SMS 75, this is the reason why I want to keep it as long as possible looking brand new, so I wonder what would you recommend to clean it. Sure water helps a lot and it may don't need to get shampooed daily, but sometimes you want to clean it poperly in and outside, but I want to use something which would harm the nature as less as possible. So what would you recommend?

fresh water, maybe some "wetsuit cleaner" if you want to do the outside if it smells a little (I rinse mine with fresh water at the end of each dive day so it doesn't pickup smell). You can buy a "BCD flush hose" that connects to your hose/tape/faucet and the inflator port on your BCD, you can use that to flush fresh water through the BCD bladder.

Oh man. Whale sharks are incredibly impressive too. (I swam with them a week after thresher sharks) the Philippines is an amazingly biodiverse ocean habitat

They were referring to a 7ft hose which wraps around you and is used as your primary. If your buddy is out of air, you would donate your primary and use an octo for yourself which would typically be mounted to a bungee necklace. Different variations and pros/cons but it’s common in cave and tech.
