My friends want me to use my boat and take them on some upcoming dives to which I will be sitting out. What are some details that I need to know WRT driving a dive boat. I know I need a dive flag, O2, sat phone, but should I be expected to drive the boat to an emergency ascent driver, what happens if multiple divers surface in different locations to check on their buddy, seems like a potential to hit them. I feel like I want to anchor and not move until they are all surfaced. what do I need to know before I agree to this.

It really depends on the type of diving. If it is drift diving, you will need others onboard to help follow bubbles and surface marker buoys. If you are anchoring on a wreck or reef, tell the divers they must ascend along the anchor line or they will have to make a surface swim or wait to be picked up after all the others are onboard. Where will the diving take place?

@@johnbspringer The shallowest spot there is 800 feet, so no anchoring. You also need permission from the oil company to dive there. Currents can be extremely strong, so most dive boats have an inflatable ready in the water with someone to drive it to chase down stray divers. When there is no current, divers have to jump from the boat and swim at least fifty feet to the rigs. You're not allowed to bring a boat any closer. The divers descend one of the rig's legs and must ascend the same leg. Once they are on the surface, they must swim back to the boat. You have to be able to get them up the ladder with the engine in neutral and far enough away so you don't drift into the rigs. You would need someone to drive the boat, a second person to give directions while assisting the divers, and a third in the inflatable. I wouldn't do it with my boat.
