Just discovered your channel the other day. I’ve watched all your videos about your heart attack and DAN. So happy it turned out the way it did! I started diving in 1985ish and did until 1993…..then I got a real job😂. So I stopped all these years and sold my stuff long ago. I've renewed my interest in diving and have been looking at buying everything again. Anyway, since I'm 54 years old now, I worry about having a serious medical event under water, especially a heart attack. Currently not in the best of shape either. In the next couple weeks, I will be starting the keto way of eating(again). It's an amazing diet, IMO. I just needed the push to get back into that as well and your heart attack videos is doing just that. Thank you and stay healthy!

Also, I see DAN plus the insurance is $201.00/year for me. Unbelievable price to pay for piece of mind. And of course I subbed👍😁

Lyle, First off our prayers and well wishes on your recovery, hopefully your already back up and running good as new. Glad your still with us as we appreciate your safety focused content to the dive community. It happens to be my DAN membership renewal time and I just upped with the Guardian protection. Hopefully it won’t be needed, however having the DAN medical support team on tap and insurance to lighten the financial burden of a potential dive incident is a very reassuring and prudent option all recreational and professional divers should consider carefully. Especially new divers and warm water holiday divers as incidents may happen at all experience levels for various reasons. The amount of money we blow on other nonessential crap is mind blowing at times. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

Such a minimal cost for a great benefit, should you ever need it. In my mind the cost of DAN insurance is just a regular part of diving, just like getting my gear serviced or visually inspected every year.

The issue with DAN was that when I last checked it wasn't even writing policies for diving outside the US.

Looking forward to the Travel Insurance episode. I'm curious for your accident, did the [Guardian Plan / $5k Lost Diving Equipment] apply in your situation?

Being a diver in the UK, DAN isn’t much use for my domestic diving as UK citizens don’t pay for medical services thanks to our amazing NHS. We also have the brilliant RNLI who save us out at sea, again for zero cost. However, if I’m doing a few trips abroad like I have planned next year, I will take out their annual sports silver insurance to keep me covered. I don’t think you can bang the drum for DAN too much! Never had to use them thank goodness, but I’ve never heard a bad word 😎

I grew up in southwest Scotland and in many ways miss the good old NHS. I was curious how they would view a DCS hit from an elective hobby like diving. But I agree when traveling abroad to take advantage of what DAN offers! Thanks for your comment. We enjoy your channel! 👍🙏🏻

Hi Lyle are you OK? Do you get regular medical check ups ?You look in pretty good shape for having had a cardiac event So unexpected? Was there any tell tale signs leading up to it? People here that have had a cardiac event have a lifestyle and diet change and in 6 months they are in better shape than they were before . Does it put any limit on your diving? You are very knowledgeable about diving medical conditions and along with your diving experience You are a test bed for anybody going through the same thing ! Take care and Have a good day !

Carl, I’m doing fine. Thank you for asking. I had something called Takotsubo Syndrome occur. (If you Google it…it’ll explain). I have no coronary artery disease or blockages. I had a full work up at Mayo Clinic when I returned and they found no residual effects on my heart and was cleared to return to dive and teach about 7 weeks after the event. It was an “out of the blue” freak occurrence. Which is why I thought it’d be a valuable thing to bring attention to for other divers. Here is a video where I explain exactly what happened: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eal_2tSGnrW4iqQ.html

You could have been fine the next day? Hospitals error on the side of caution to save their ass in case there is a lawsuit Your Dann videos are right on and should be heads up for newbie divers Have a great day!

This content is in stark contrast to the experience described on DiveTalk. Where, Woody almost died trying to receive help from DAN. Additionally, there are several anecdotes from other divers regarding their close calls with DAN. Disappointing.
