Ditra Heat, how to install it start to finish. Ditra Heat is a floor warming system made by Schluter, it is a three component system consisting of the Ditra Mat, the cable system and the thermostat, it comes in both 120, and 240 volt. The Ditra mat for the Ditra heat is configured in such a way that the heat wire can be easily inserted and routed through the mat to heat the desired areas, in this case the whole floor was heated, but can also be used to heat different zones. The Ditra mat is installed the same way as the regular Ditra uncoupling membrane, and serves the same function with the added capability of accepting the heat wire. One important difference is that a ¼” square notched trowel is used to spread the thinset instead of the regular Ditra trowel. Once the mat has been installed, the wire can be routed into the mat. The heating cable must be placed no closer than 3” from the wall, and 8” from a heat source, (Hot are vent, base board heat, etc.). The cable and probes must be tested with the appropriate meters before they installed, after they have been placed in the mat, and after the tile has been installed to retain the warrantee. All the directions are included with the system. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. Sal, did you add those alligator clips to the leads? Did you just cut the leads and crimp them on? My tester has probes and they make connecting with the wires difficult. Great , clear and to the point.

I brought this meter after seeing your video, I tested myself, I reviewed your vid again today, my understanding to the manual is, your test result shown here is 1(>2000Mohm) briefly before you release the TEST. you should hold the test until the reading stabilized. The wire has some capacity, takes time to reach the reading, and the 1 mean over range which is good

What's the difference between this meter and that smaller field piece meter you used before?

+Jason Knight One is a Multi meter which is inexpensive, and the other is a megohmmeter, which is quite expensive but required to do one of the test if the warranty is to be valid.

Any chance you might be able to share why a 240v/203.8sq ft spool might give a reading of 360-400 of the megohmeter? I tested it with another spool that's 240v/74sq ft and came back at 1524? Thanks.

Hi Sal, I bought a megohmmeter (Klein Tools ET600) to test my wire. Haven’t done it yet. I know you’re not an electrician, but maybe you can help. I’m trying to wrap my head around the idea that I’m sending 1,000 volts into this thin wire, yet it can’t harm it? That’s over 8 times the volts of household current! I also can’t understand how a battery operated device could do that. I’m actually a bit afraid to use it on the wire. And the directions say to press and hold the test button, but not how long to hold it. Would you be able to explain how this works? Thank you, and hope you have a good Christmas. BTW, I have found your videos as or more helpful than Schluters own videos.

Done it countless time. Hold it till the meter reads over 1,000 then you know it is good. Let the wire discharge before you touch it.

  • @luptonpittman6520

@@SalDiBlasi So if I understand you correctly, you’re saying just hold it until it’s showing that the volts being put into the wire are at least 1000, then you can release. In other words the smaller number needs to be at least 1000 then you can release. You don’t need to hold it until you have the final reading, correct? Thank you.

The video was ok, but Sal moves around much too fast and He talks fast as well. He used 2 different settings on the test for the two floor sensors on his multimeter which made it very confusing. Also, he said to set your multimeter at 10,000 for the first cable and then zoomed in on a setting of 20k. the Schluter videos for installation of products are much more detailed and profesionally done. Sorry Schluter, you dropped the ball on this one!

The reading is the same for the floor sensor test it just shifter the decimal place over, same result. I think this is a great video particularly where he shows you each setting on the multi meter. I came here because the SCHLUETER instructions that actually come with the product are vague
