I feel that Ferraris that age isn't for racing anymore anyway. It's something to drive and enjoy. People who don't have that Ferrari passion will never understand what it is about driving one for just the noise it produce and the smile it puts on your face even if it isn't as comfortable as a Mercedes or as reliable as a Toyota Hilux. I totally get what you are telling us Wizard. I hope you and Mrs Wizard will have years of fun with this car

I'm not a big Ferrari guy or Lamborghini guy but would love to drive either from this era for everything you just said. It's not really about the speed but more of the feel and sound. Exactly why I like manual transmissions, I know these new automatics are faster shifting and more efficient than I can be but it takes the fun of it away. I'm only 34 but it seems like "kids," people late teens early 20s don't understand how fun that actually is. Everything we love about cars will soon be extinct.

My dentist when I lived in LA would buy an old Ferrari, rip out the interior, throw a race cage in it, and head to the track. Some cars aren't really worth restoring, but they can still make for good track cars, plus one can sell off parts for people who want to restore something in better shape.

Car Wizard I'm an enthusiastic follower of your channel. I'm an old guy that appreciates someone that is passionate about doing the job RIGHT. Anyway, blah, blah, and more blah. I'm commenting to "suggest" that you and Magic Mike might want to consider mounting your NEW electronic distributor system on a HEAT SINK, and NOT directly to a "CARPETED" surface (it's like wrapping it in a blanket . . . almost). I used to work on cars when I was younger (I could easily be your dad), but you're the expert there. But I did spend 50 years in the electronic/computer world, and it's no secret that the number one electronics "killer" is heat (I suspect you already know that). And to mount your new "system" to a carpeted "wall", inside a closed-up "box" is, IMHO, looking for trouble. You might want to consider mounting it to an aluminum heat sink with some stand-offs (1 inch would do) from the wall, and if you want to go the extra mile, you might want to include a 12v fan for airflow ventilation. Just a comment . . . Anyway, love watching you and your staff (and beautiful bride) tackle all the quirky projects that roll into your shop. Good luck and keep up the good work!!!

Hey Car Wizard, I have a suggestion for a "Buy This, Not That" video. Could you do one on cars to teach someone to drive stick in? Not just cars that have a light clutch and good shift action, but also cars that a mechanic can do a clutch replacement on cheaply, in case the learner burns up the clutch. Manual transmissions (and people who can operate them) are becoming less and less common, so a video like this might prompt some people to give it a try. Thanks to you and Mrs. Wizard for all the work you've put into your videos!

Making an old classic car enjoyable by replacing stock old parts that never worked well to me is part of being a true car enthusiast. If you are keeping your car completely stock, you most likely are not enjoying that car the way it was meant to be enjoyed. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but don't give people a hard time for replacing old busted non-working parts with newer systems that allow them to really enjoy the car in every sense of how it was meant to be enjoyed. @CarWizard, you are doing it right.

I just saw a video this morning on another 308 and it's carburetor set up. Search for "What Does UK's Top Expert Think Of My Cheap Ferrari 308" for some tips on how to dial in your carbs. It turned out that the Idle Mixture has a huge impact on the part throttle drivability. It would buck and miss and spit and sputter until the Idle Mixture was sorted. Also, you want to target a 900 RPM Idle to keep the Cams oiled.

@@jeffreyrwilliams9345 just a little mild kidding of course. I too have watched Jack in UK and the misery he continues to have with the 308 and it's intermittent running problem. I've commented for at least 6-8 months that Jack is doing things exactly wrong. Jack continues to monkey with carbs when he should first check/adjust valves, second check the ignition system, and then and only then touch the carbs. Jack's misery with his 308 will continue.

As wizard said I hope the fuel doesnt vapor lock or degrade performance sucking in all that hot under hood air into the intake, might be why Ferrari had a cold air intake setup like many cars do for the same reason. Ive always loved the sound of carb intake noise, one of the meanest sounding carbs is the old Rochester Quadrajet when those massive back barrels open on a big block it sounds amazing.

@13:00 I wish I have this meter when I was younger and bit foolish with my Alfa Romeo in the 1980s. It had Solex side-draught 2BBL carburettors that needed weekly adjustments to keep the engine running smoother. It took me 15 minutes or so to adjust each of four barrels. I should have replaced them with the more reliable Weber instead.

Hi Wizard - I have tuned these cars and many many others with Webers - you will find that the stock airbox config provides for a very noticeable difference of the Webers operation in hot climates (USA mid-west summers) as compared to having just the K&N type filters. I have fabricated airboxes in the past for similar installations that really helped draw in the outside (colder air under motion) air to the carbs... just an "old-hand tuner from way back when" opinion. Good luck and keep the vids coming - nice to see the old cars. A side note: I used to remove distributors and install Ford EDIS systems on many Brit engines but use the flywheel (install tiny bolts for the sensor notches) for the crank-timing pick up as opposed to the crank pulley - that was many years back and worked as smooth as silk.. look up Megajolt Lite, he does something similar and cheap.

Not a bad idea - however if you could find a square filter element big enough to fit around all the carbs and build an air box out of sheet metal - you could do a simple bend up combined with rivets to to make a "Wizard" induction system. No welding required. Airplanes are made that way as welding can introduce micro cracks that will grow. You could use PVC for the ducting because cold air will help the cause.
