Distance Learning | Assessing Reading Skills Virtually
Assessing students reading skills virtually, while not ideal, is completely doable! Distance Learning and teaching guided reading virtually doesn't have to difficult either. Assessing reading skills virtually can definitely be accomplished with some planning and preparation. Implementing virtual reading assessments remotely can be done by using the proper tools and video software. Join me for this video as I go into detail on how to assess your students reading skills virtually and/or remotely to show you how simple and streamlined this process can be. Remember, the reason for assessing reading skills virtually, is to glean important information about your students' reading skills and abilities to then inform your guided reading instruction during distance learning.

Love this. Thanks for sharing.
This video helped me a lot. I have gained brilliant ideas on how to assess learners' reading level virtually! Thank you very much!
Thank you!
Well done! Assessments are critical and I hope to do this on Zoom. Thanks for the help!
This is so insightful! Thanks for sharing
I love your video, this might help me to start my own tutorial center.
Thank you for sharing!
this is very helpful for my research. thank you 😭
You explained wonderfully... Thanks
Thanks for this video. My school opens virtually in two weeks and I am right now trying to plan how I'm going to assess virtually. This video came right in time! Please answer these questions for me: 1. At what grade level do you give the sight words and word knowledge assessments? Is it Grade 2 and higher? 2. Do you give all 200 of the sight words to individual students? 3. How do you know which level books to begin testing students on? Do you use a scoring rubric from the sight words and word knowledge assessments to determine what level the students should begin reading at?
Fantastic
Anna, I teach elementary special education- focusing on learning disabilities and autism- may I suggest that phonological assessments should also be given to struggling readers no matter the age or grade. The pieces of the phonics puzzle need to be assessed and taught to these kids to close the gap on what is missing. I have been doing the sight word, word knowledge, and reading inventory using the Guided Readers assessments and yes it is doable! I have my kids do Word Knowledge on Seesaw but I have to BEG BEG BEG parents not to HELP their kids 🙄

@Sherlita Montgomery I have also taught middle school special education and have seen the holes that could have been filled- it is really sad
Thanks so much! I teach kindergarten and would love a phonics and phonemic awareness version. Is that available one your store?
I love your videos ...I have bought your reading program but I am looking for ideas to do with the other students while I conduct the reading assessment. 😊 thanks.
I have several grades and teachers at my school that I've shown your Guided Readers program to. We need the digital books and google slides activities that go with each book. I can't decipher which plan the google slides are on..... Sprout or Bloom? Please help, need to get this before next week.
Is there a specific list you use for the Word Knowledge Assessment?
I bought the annual membership. I teach at a small private school and do not have Google classroom or Seesaw. Is there a way students can login and work on their guided readers without me screen sharing? Thanks for your help.
Putting all those words in a powerpoint or google slides is a lot of work!!!!

In Guided Readers we supply everything teachers need to run their reading groups without having to do all of the prep work themselves. We provide everything for our members :) Hope this helps :) www.guidedreaders.com
Can this be used if we are using TEAMS at our school rather than Google slides?

Unfortunately we can not say whether you can use the google slides in Microsoft Teams, it is a link that you would click in Guided Readers, and bring into your google account, then share it out to your students, but these activities also have printable activities that you can use to download, print and hand out, or email over to your students as well. I did a quick search and came up with this article: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/education_ms/forum/all/i-want-to-make-an-assignment-that-uses-a-google/63bc0b9f-8e20-42a5-853b-69c169a24148 So we are not entirely sure using Google slides is possible. You may want to reach out to Microsoft directly for clarification.

I am wondering if your TpT product- Guided Reading D-G Bundle and your guided readers website contain the same documents? The same reading materials? the same strategy materials?
