Dispersed Camping Michigan

In this video I'll show you how to find the boondock areas of Michigan using Google maps and GAIA. Dispersed camping is easy, peaceful and one of the best types of camping there is to offer! And, it's free!!!

    Do you need an orv tag to go out on the two tracks?

  • @WintersKamp

    @WintersKamp

    3 жыл бұрын

    The rules are kind of funny. Not needed as long as any standard 2 wheel drive vehicle can navigate the 2 track then you don’t need one. But the minute you need to access your 4 wheel drive you need it.

    @@WintersKamp That's not entirely accurate. As long as your vehicle is street licensed you do not need a sticker unless you plan on riding on a designated and signed orv route. You can find a list of routes and map on the Michigan DNR website.

  • @sheild1117

    @sheild1117

    @@schultzoutdoors8799still not entirely accurate, you do not need an orv sticker for any licensed vehicle even if you’re on a designated orv route so long as that route is passable by any conventional 2wd drive vehicle, but once you have to use 4wd for any orv route, now your vehicle is considered to be an orv and is now required to have a sticker along with a trail permit for some reason, but that’s only if you’re traveling on orv routes that’s not passable with 2wd drive.

    @@desertlawgaming154 @DesertlawGaming 15 I am a southern Michigan boondocker out of necessity. I wish I knew more places that were ok with it. I've stayed at muddy fields, been chased out of places, stayed at Pilot Truck Stops, Waterloo Portage Lake for electricity but that's $20 a night unless you stay at a 50 amp then it's $25. Brighton is $25 and they have showers. I've stayed in WalMarts and Meijers parking lots; the TA's, Pilots, and Love's showers are $15.00 but the Exit 145 Truck Stop off I-94 are $5.00 and great (with towels). I've stayed with Boondocker's Welcome hosts which are great -- mostly free, electricity, water, and local info, but limited -- some "close" for the winter, some don't allow dogs, some have twisty driveways, some are just for one night, some offer nothing but a place to park (no electricity, no water) and I had one unfortunate situation where the host wouldn't answer the phone, texts, or messages to give me guidance to get there when I was so close so another night at WalMart, but by far Boondockers Welcome is a good resource. It got down into the teens but my Mr. Buddy heater kept me warm when there was no power. (I have a 15 pound propane tank with an adaptor to Mr. Buddy. Those little green cylinders are expensive!! Over $5 for one pound! Gas stations are around $20.00 for 15 pounds. Propane distributors are $10.00. Now I am talking about exchanging empty tank for full tank.) I've camped all over Michigan including the U.P. but right now I'm focusing on lower S.E. If anyone has info on more spots, let me know.
