Well Disney's roots are actually a lack of Disney villain songs. My best examples are Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Sleeping Beauty, and Mulan. This happened either because of the villain (like Mulan's villain) not being the type of character to sing. Or because back when Disney started (especially with Snow White) singing was considered to be pure, and the villains were not pure, so they shouldn't sing or make any type of music.

Yep, probably the biggest wasted potential.

It’s interesting how it sounds like the trailer is being narrated, only to find out that the antagonist is actually talking to the viewer (or the protagonist). It’s an excellent redirect. I can’t wait to watch this film. Disney is at their best when making fairy tales.

I love this artstyle. They are finally going back to a less realistic style, but that gives them so many more amazing ways to express themselves. It looks absolutely stunning!

Paperman pulled off the 2D/3D one really, really well. Spiderverse and Puss in Boots were also really special. As far as this combining the style of classic 2D Disney watercolor animation with computer animation... it was within their capabilities to do better, it looks just a bit weird.

I'm sorta confused with the bringing back 2D style in this movie to me it still looks more pixar CGI then the hand drawn style ones to me anyway I'm only guessing it will take a longer time with technology to advance to make movies with that style again or its just in the past for good anyway i will see the movie anyway

The blend of 2D and 3D animation makes me so happy. 2D and hand-drawn just has a certain charm and magical feeling to it that can't be replicated in 3D. This feels new and fresh but at the same time familiar since it tells me that Disney is trying to return to its roots, and I can't be more excited!

I’m not wasting my money on this. Common sense should tell Disney their films are flopping because their storytelling is NOTHING like how it was with the 1990s staff. Animation style doesn’t matter - both Pixar and Disney did well in the 90s! Why was that? The storytelling, the lack of political agendas, and the lack of social media access at that time to warp their staff’s best ideas!

You don’t know much about it’s story yet and things could always change. From the looks of this film it IS definitely going back to alot of the factors of Disney movies in the 90s and of course not everything’s gonna be the same but that’s life. Honestly I couldn’t care any less what you do if you dislike this movie that’s your opinion and I can respect that but since it hasn’t even came out yet sit down we can’t hate it just yet and it looks promising if you ask me but ok.

This is the most Disney-esque movie that ever Disneyed. And I mean that as a good thing. It's genuinely refreshing to see the studio going back to its roots. Classic protagonists, classic villains, talking animal sidekicks, musicals, magic, dreams, wishes. This has all the makings of an effing masterpiece! And I am ready for it. Bring it on!

The crazy thing is that this isn't the 1st time this has happened. Back it the 80s or 90s, Disney was kinda in a rut to the point that "Black Cauldron" lost out to the "Care Bears" movie. It wasn't till "An American Tale" came out that Disney realized they needed to up their game, which led to the Disney Renaissance. It looks like "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" had the same effect. At least I hope that's what's happening.

This looks like it could be amazing. I actually love the 2D/3D blend (reminds me a little of Paperman). The narrator in the trailer actually being the villain is a nice twist. The designs and characters look so lush and vibrant. The music sounds gorgeous. This seems like it should be appreciated on the big screen. EDIT: I’m surprised at the many negative comments about the animation looking flat, lifeless and not up to the quality of Paperman and Feast. While it’s not exactly the same style, the details are still breathtaking and far from a disappointment. I hope people still give it a chance!

I cannot begin express how excited I am to see this as a lifelong Disney fan. This animation style is something Disney has been working on since the ‘Paperman’ short film was included with Wreck it Ralph. They always said they’d revisit it and I can’t wait to see the full film.

Or a black washing of Spanish people. When in reality. She’s set in a Kingdom on a mythical island off of the Iberian peninsula where it allows for her existence to be normal there. She’s supposed to be North African Iberian from what I’ve seen. You could tell me why do I care so much. By I can ask you the same. Such as “If you didn’t really care. - Stylized 3D that resembles Renaissance-era 2D - A straight-up villain with no twists This has all the makings for something magnificent.

Even though we only heard a little bit of it, I am loving that song Asha is singing. Also, villain looks cool, animation looks fantastic, and Alan Tudyk as her pet! Looks great. Can’t wait for it.

The score is gorgeous. Also, this trailer gives me vibes of being at the Magic Kingdom. It’s going to be classic pure Disney magic!

This movie does look promising, the animation is beautiful, and it looks like we'll finally have a villain like before. It is perfect to pay homage to the Disney classics, I hope that with this Disney starts to get up.

While not a unique concept in Disney movies (wishing upon a star has been a Disney theme literally from the beginning with Snow White and Pinocchio....I AM pleased to see that this actually looks like a unique and creative concept and NOT JUST another sequel or live action remake. ITS SOMETHING NEW and it waxes nostalgic of the GOOD Disney movies they had when I was a child. And Princess Asha is beautiful.

While it isn't a sequel or a remake, it's actually _less_ original than the other recent animated movies Disney has produced, like Encanto and Strange World, because it follows an old, well-trodden formula. I really hope Disney markets this movie more with more trailers and images and other stuff.

I hope for Walt Disney Animation Studios to not only do more 2D/3D films and return to Hand-Drawn Animation, but also have them return to do Fairytale films based on different fairytales or books as there are so many different stories and books that Disney could choose from such as _Jack and the Beanstalk_ (now revived with a better story and script), _Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel & Gretel, King of the Elves, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, The Nightingale, The Musicians of Bremen_ (a Brothers Grimm story that has a Dog, Cat, Donkey and a Rooster becoming town musicians in Germany. 🐕🐈🐎🐓), _The Prince and the Pauper, The Princess and the Pea, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Puss in Boots, Bluebeard, Anansi the Spider, Momotaro, The Girl Who Drank at the Moon_ and _The Brave Adventures of Lapitch._ For the latter one (Lapitch) It's a children's story from Croatia about a young boy shoemaker named Lapitch works as the apprentice for the Scowlers - a mean-mannered shoemaker, and his kind-hearted wife. After Master Scowler blames him for the wrong size of a customer's shoes, Lapitch then leaves a note runs away from home with Bundaš, the Scowlers' dog, and sets off on a seven-day adventure, during which he meets Gita, a circus performer with a pet parrot and encountering a local thief known as the Black Man, it definitely feels like something Disney would adapt as an Animated musical film. I also would like if one of their future animated films be set in either Japan, Aztec Mexico or Mexico, Africa, Australia, Brazil, Spain, Ukraine, India, Germany, Ireland, South Korea and/or the Galápagos Islands be it an original story or largely based/inspired by mythology/legends (e.g. The Rainbow Serpent in Australia; Aztec Mythology in Mexico; Celtic mythology in Scotland; Momotaro in Japan; Anansi the Spider and Mwindo in Africa, etc.) using whichever style they use (CG, Hand-Drawn, Wish’s style, those from the Short Circuit shorts).

They tried doing Jack and the Beanstalk - Gigantic, and it hurt to hear it was canceled. I really hope that they will revisit it and make it happen, changing any issues that it had during preproduction. Would also love to see all those other stories as well, especially Red Riding Hood and Rumpelstiltskin.

DreamWorks called, they already made an adaptation of Puss in Boots. And it's a spinoff of the Shrek Movies. Plus, some of the fairytales and books you just listed there (including Puss in Boots) were originally gonna be made by Disney. But they were all scrapped for various reasons for each of them.

@@andrewdowns3673 Yeah I still won’t forget and I’m still salty on Disney canceling _Gigantic_ not to mention it was going to be Disney’ first musical with a male lead in a while since the most recent and so-far final Disney animated musical(s) were _Hercules_ and _Tarzan_ just 25+ years ago. I think Disney Animation needs to get there feet wet again and not only having another animated musical with a male lead (literally) but also revive the _Jack in the Beanstalk_ story but with a much different take since for the past 80-90 years we had so many different films be put into production but later shelved due to story problems and how to make the characters from said stories to be relatable and the story engaging but we’re later revived years later as shown through _Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast,_ _Rapunzel_ (now known as _Tangled),_ and _The Snow Queen_ (now known as _Frozen),_ so I am optimistic that an animated Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation could be revived.

Let's hope it does well. The only reason I believe we keep getting live action movies is because they will always do well. Like grossing more than £1B in the box office. They do well more than the original stories. Why fix something that isn't broken.

I think this movie is an inspiration to Disney's centenary.

disney started animating like this way before spider verse came out. they always said they were gonna make a full movie using the art style, & that was back in like 2014, it just took them forever lol but they have at least 2 shorts using this style

This film will be the definitive love letter to the Disney Animation studio. The ode and combination of the traditional 2d style with the modern 3d. The presence of a villianous threat. The talking animal sidekick. The SONGS. And of course the wishing star. I also love how they mentioned and credited their older films like Cinderella and Beauty & the Beast as being made from the same studio instead of just the more recent films. It really puts into perspective how long this studio has been around I truly hope this film is as good as they're teasing it to be. It looks so magical. I can't wait to see it!! 💜💙💜💙💜💙

Yeah, I can tell that they're talking about the original animated version of the films like Beauty and the Beast and Lion King because of the text style. The live action, Beauty and the Beast, for example, would have the word beauty be a much bigger word and stacked on top of the word Beast, but the logo used is clearly the logo for the animated title😊

@tayliana♡ Well I wouldn't consider Frozen realistic! Their world looks tangible, but is still clearly stylized animation. With Wish they went for a 2d finish over the 3d (with some watercolor backgrounds maybe??) to pay homage to the 2d Disney films of the past, AND to the modern ones 💜

The animation feels like a combination of Pixar 3D and classic 2D animations. Disney movies always mesmerizing the eyes.

Y’all are so unbelievable dramatic. She acts “quirky, cutesy”, this isn’t a groundbreaking character with an AMAZING personality. The animation looks decent, but it’s not the BEST DISNEY ANIMATION OF ALL TIME. And oh wow! Comic relief and cute characters to cash grabs as merch! What a surprise! Yall are so over the top for a 2 minute trailer. this looks like a decent movie at best.

Somehow I like how they changed the perspective of the "Be careful what you wish for" from Disenchanted to "Be careful who you give your wish to". Also it feels satisfying to see how 2d and 3d animation blends smoothly in almost every shot. Definitely checking it out when its released. ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

I love the animation, I love her braids, I love her look. I wish for this to become an instant classic.

How long do you think they've been planning the next Disney princess movie? Even if somehow Disney speedran this over the past 8 months, one doesn't just change the entire style of a film because of an entirely separate film that wouldn't have even been released yet at that point. I know you're probably like 14 and y'all will get mad at me for a message that's longer than 8 words but I legitimately think it's important not to understate just how much work film takes, especially animated film, and that these studios map out brand defining movies like these very far in advance.

I understand why people are having doubts, especially considering Disneys track record the past few years. But I am soooo excited for this movie and think it will be wonderful. Not to mention I am already OBSESSED with the song. (Also I think asha looks really pretty, they should’ve put her in a different color though because I definitely see why people are saying she resembles Isabella)

This gave me chills, guys. The music, animation style, the character design. This could be a real win for Disney

I must say, the protag looks absolutely stunning, and I LOVE how they merged 2D with 3D. This type of art style has become very popular these last years, but I love how Disney made it look like their old 2D animated movies

That's one of the positive aspects of this movie, but the rest is hollow including the music. The music is not the music you should have with this kind of a cultural and geographical setting, Disney used to have movies that reflected the cultures they presented quite well like Aladdin and the Lion Kind among others unlike this one based on the trailer. The story is distorted from a historical standpoint, the Spanish were not "the bad guys", they are presenting a distorted image of history with this movie, though it does appear to be presented as a pure fantasy animated movie. Where is the creative spark? It's like they are trying to make an old style 2D animated movie but without the real creativity and the correct intentions behind it. I like the animation and that it's a new character but there are issues with the story and with the music.

I remember seeing the Lion King and getting angry at the lack of African accents, or seeing Hercules and getting angry at the historical inaquaracies. What do you know of the "intentions" of the movie? We barely have a trailer telling us some of the settings, charachters and humor. We are quick to judge, but the truth is we forgot what we liked of Disney in the first place. When we saw it as kids, we didn't look for "surprises", we looked for emotions, for memories. For laughs and we got trapped in whatever magic we saw. This has magic... at least is original.

Love this animation style. Good to see Disney exploring other animation style not just sticking with hyper realistic animation. Imma watch this for sure.

No Words describe how very excited I am for this film and that not only does this combine 2D/3D elements, as seen in Disney Animation’s previous efforts such as _Paperman, Feast,_ and _Far From the Tree_ but we get to have our first classic traditional Disney villain in over 13-14 years since Mother Gothel and Dr. Facilier after the past decade of Walt Disney Animation Studios just using either a Twist villain, No Villain, or a Generational Trauma (Force of Nature, Protagonists internal struggles). It’s going to be hard for this film to top the visuals and story seen in _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse_ and especially _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ which the latter did involved a Wishing Star, but nonetheless I’m so excited on seeing this film this November and hearing Ariana DeBose’s performance as Asha.⭐️💫

Like if spiderman movie sets the bar for excellence then you're doomed.. lol those marvel movies are fun to watch but that's about it. The acting is horrible and the stories are so dumb. My goodness, this looks good. It looks like classic Disney, with the inspirational song, the gorgeous blended animation, the magical elements, the genuinely funny talking animal, and for the first time in almost 15 years, a villain who we know is the villain and has a menacing presence.

@The Film Watcher "obvious what they're going for" Except it isn't. While they may have cooled off with the twist villains, the new villain is _GENERATIONAL TRAUMA_ so nothing in the trailer means anything when they may end up justifying his actions. Encanto did it, Turning Red did it, Strange Worlds did it, and Wish has been in production for 2 years. Generational Trauma is old and busted, Existentialism is the new hotness.

I think Disney finally understood its lesson. I love how this movie mixes some classical techniques like the green eyes. Also the villain gives us Frollo vibes, but the main plot seems original. Disney finally understood the assignment 👏.

I'm just now realizing wish the movie is an homage to "when you wish upon a star", kind of cool

The animation is so beautiful, its like a merge of what they've done and what they're doing.❤

Okay, Star is absolutely adorable and I laughed at Valentino realizing that he was talking and surprised at how deep his voice turned out to be. I actually like that animal sidekick is going to get to talk--we don't always get those these days. My fingers are still crossed that the villain will actually be a traditional singing and murdering kind--not a twist villain, not a sympathetic villain, just a classic Disney villain.

If they've already told and shown us he's the villain, then "twist villain" is already out of the question, and I think they could pull off a balance between a somewhat tragic villain and a classic Disney villain if they tried, provided the guy stays bad all the way to the end.

This is truly a movie worthy of Disney's 100-year celebration. An original story, a unique art style, some potentially memorable songs, and some memorable characters, and a movie to literally remember. I am, for one, going to see this animated event movie.

Lego made three Lego sets based off this movie, so hopefully they will make this movie succeed at the Box Office before Thanksgiving and Christmas

I honestly can't remember the last time I've been this excited for a Disney film! The animation looks amazing, combining the best of their old 2d style and their newer 3d look, there's an actual straightfoward villain for the first time since at least Wreck it Ralph or Tangled (and NOT some surprise twist villain), the music sounds wonderful and it's great to hear Alan Tudyk actually get to talk in a Disney film! I love him as Clayface on HBO's Harley Quinn and I instantly recognized his voice when I heard it! I'm really looking forward to this, this has the makings of a new Disney classic. :)

Alan Tudyk has talked before in Disney films. He was King Candy in Wreck it Ralph, the Duke of Wesselton in Frozen, Alistair Krei in Big Hero 6, Duke Weaselton in Zootopia, Knowsmore in Ralph Breaks the Internet. He’s had a lot of talking roles in Disney films.

reminds me of the 3D animation they did for that Sophia the first show just at a higher quality and I'm here for it, looks soft and cozy

They shouldn't have made the characters 3d they look out of place and the song people are so biased just because it's Disney and we all love Disney doesn't mean everything they turn out is gold.. in the trailer you here a snip of this proclaimed hit so far... But I must be not seeing what all these commenters are seeing and hearing... The song sounds pretty generic nothing amazing jumped out to me... The background and the town that Wish takes place in is actually I agree beautiful... But the ugly 3d characters ruin it. They look out of place and like animation you would see on a show for toddlers like on nick Jr or Disney kids. I don't know why people like the 3d animation so much it's all bubbly looking I think it's ugly AF lol... Only 3d animated movie that actually pulled off the 3d was probably Shrek in my opinion... I remember when you story came out I was like what happened to the animation it looks like shit now.

This is a very strategically crafted movie by Disney- they are aiming to recreate the magic from past films. If you take a close look it’s like an amalgamation of all the past successful Disney scripts/tropes/tendencies put into a blender but with a few words rearranged to avoid plagiarism. Ironically that in itself qualifies as an original concept lol… This movie is gonna be the antithesis of Strange World… Disney wants a hit and they want it NOW
