As someone who's not a child but plays Pokemon, I'm very used to NOT being catered to, so I think it's kind of crazy but also refreshing that Disney just made a game for Disney adults.

It makes sense to me due to the microtransactions. It's also a common trick to pace it so you feel you don't need to spend money at the start, but once you're invested they crank up the grind required.

I picked this up and started playing yesterday, mid-morning-ish. I lie not... I could not put it down until close to midnight. This game is *good.* Yes, it needs some patches re: crashing and the lag when entering menus, etc. But damn... what a game. My next goal is getting my spouse hooked as well, so nothing ever gets done around here again... 😈

I played 5 hours today and I’m loving it! I did have the sound issue where it started cracking. So I’m glad you mentioned it. The crafting, farming and quests are a lot of fun! It’s not boring and I just want to progress! 8/10 for me! They need to fix some things but when they do it will be amazing!

I was on the fence about this game as I do not know much about Disney characters or their world - but I do believe I will try this game after your review - thank you for another wonderful review! :D

This game is absurdly fun. It is way better than it had any right to be considering the developer and the framework to microtransaction the heck out of it. A couple of notes - this is a paid early access period. The game releases as a FTP game next summer. The performance issues are spread across all of the console versions. This isn't a Switch only problem.

I wonder if they'll dump a load of microtransactions into it when it becomes free to play, so they can still make money from it. I hope not! I'd rather pay for a game than have addictive (in a bad way), grindy gameplay that encourages you to spend money on microtransactions.

As always, a great and informed review. This is something I may get for myself later, though I've just purchased it for my Mrs to play on her Switch Lite. I purchased the eshop card from your website for the first time, great service and a few quid saved, cheers guys.

I wasn't sure whether I wanted to give it a try on my switch but after watching many many reviews I was so intrigued, I gave it a shot. And what should I say? I love it! Even the performance lags on my switch are much lesser than I expected them to be so I am fine with it since it is what it is - early access. So far my game stopped 3 times in 12 hours of playing but because of cloud saving I didn't lost any progress at all, so thats - for now - also very fine with me. I am glad I bought the early access because I am having lots of fun over here.

I'm not a Disney Fan but this looks surprisingly good! You should revisit this when the wohle thing is (hopefully) fixed. Great review as always!

Wow, I can't believe Disney made a sim game I'd like! I really prefer the stamina bar for a timer rather than an actual timer, as they usually move too fast for me to get anything accomplished. I'll probably wait a bit to get it, hopefully on sale or at least after they've patched it a bit. Thanks for the review!

You've actually changed my mind. All the comments, pre-reviews, and first looks I've seen were not that complimentary (especially to do with price and likely poor performance on switch) but after watching your review I actually think I'm going to pick this up. I missed the Animal Crossing wave when it hit so this might be a good alternative. Bugs and all! Great review as usual!

I did pick this up and after about 4hrs of play, I'm still enjoying it. Quite a lot. I did not expect to be thinking about it so much when not playing. Planning stuff. What might be next etc. Totally ridiculous lol. Yes there's been the odd mini crash, but nothing lost... And I know it'll get better over time.. In the mean time, there's plenty of forgetful vines to clear out right?

As someone who has never been that into Disney - i was surprised to find myself loving this game. Errrm - i downloaded it for my son, really!

strange, i hear lower volume of another narration i think of the same video/person on my left ear at the beginning but not the rest of the video. thought my headphones were busted

As a fan of Disney Magical World, I'm looking forward to playing this after work today. I feel like this game is an updated and immensely polished version of DMW so I'm quite hyped over it. I can easily overlook the bugs for the time being but if they continue, then I reckon lots of people will drop off.

Yeah, it feels so much like DMM (which is a plus!), while taking things from Animal Crossing and farming games to modernize it. I'm shockingly surprised.

I'm really enjoying it I started playing on my son's xbox as he has game pass so was free for him played for few hours for two day but son want his xbox back. He thought game wasn't good so he didn't want to play it until I started playing it and brought it on playstaion 4 then he continued it where I left it on his while I had to start all over again cheeky kid. Days later we both are playing for hours each day. Only thing is I'm finding is it's not liking when I go home and leave home it goes off and comes up with a error asking for updated it also does it sometimes when leave other characters house or shops etc so always make sure to save once you do something big. Can't wait to get scar and other characters. Love this game and glad I treated myself to it.

I love it so much. I got it on xbox through game pass thinking itd prob be another new horizons remake. I havent touched my switch since new horizons much because im not the type of player who decorates or terraforms, i like to just fish and vibe and ACNH is too much pressure. I love that theres actual motives and missions here it keeps me engaged in a world around me, not one i have to create

My son, who is 12 and has cerebral palsy, loves to sit with me and play Animal Crossing (we call it our village game). He loves Mickey Mouse and this looks like a great mashup of both things he likes. I might have to grab this for us!

This reminds me of Disney Magical World on the 3DS. I never played it, but my wife got into it somewhat after she lost interest in AC: New Leaf. I'll have to tell her about this game and see if it's something she's interested in. Thanks for the review!

I watch somebody streaming it on release day and I said it looked just like Disney magical world but a little bit more updated

Such a fun game. I am playing it on my Xbox and Switch and love the cross platform saves. With constant updates, I will be playing this game for a long time.

Was on the fence, but after watching your video, I went ahead and purchased it. $30 isn't that bad for what you're getting. Will probably have a lot of fun playing with my 5 YO daughter. As to your question, I thought your review was really fair and told me what I needed to know. =)

Not a bad game by any means. It has its flaws, but I am seriously enjoying it more than I thought I would, at the monent. One of the biggest appeals is the offline play, meaning I can invest my time on this game without fear of them shutting down the servers some day and the game being gone forever.

How do I used the 10% discount for the game on the Nintendo switch eshop ?

I think it's worth pointing out that at the moment the amount of characters is quite limited because it's still early access. So alot of the characters in all the trailers etc aren't actually in the game yet.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this. I've been playing all day and I'm really enjoying it. It's as if Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley and Disney had a child. I hope they can fix the fps in a patch.

@@SwitchUpYt I thought it was going to be an exploitative bare-bones life service game (read "life service" in the voice of Jim Sterling for maximum life-serviceness). I'm glad it isn't.

I was on the fence about getting it, but this review makes me think I should give it a shot.

As a 30-something man, also, I'm having fun with it as well. I do wish it was optimized better for Switch. Hopefully performance will be improved by the time it's out of early access.

This game is addictive, fun and well made. I, for one, don't give a rip about multiplayer, so that con doesn't mean anything for me. This feels like more than Animal Crossing, this also has a vibe of Disney Extreme skate adventure, except with actually more places to visit and things that directly affect the player. (also, no skating) and like Disneyland Adventure, without the Kinect insofar as you become part of the story of each adventure or attraction in the Disneyland game, you are throughout a part of the adventure in this one. The farming is light, but still there and part of the fun. The building of the valley and of your character, making friends and all of that is like a secret dream we mostly all have inside of us. And, of course, taking your everyday person into a fantastic realm always feels unique and makes it easy to put yourself into their shoes. I personally can not wait to see what the developers do with this in the future. Incidentally, I am playing the PS4 version.

What's the purpose and value of the moon stones? I'm wondering if it's worth buying into the game now

I have always enjoyed playing more peaceful, creative, and independent games like Minecraft, Animal crossing, Slime Rancer etc. In general, if you loved Animal crossing you should find a nice place here too. There's a lot to discover, nice characters, the devs seem super community-oriented. I started playing it when it came to Game Pass and I am enjoying it. Just slowly, at my own speed. In my opinion, it's really worth it.

This looks good, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Disney Magical World on the 3ds, so I think I'll like this too. But I'll wait for the final free version, not too keen to pay for an early access game that might turn out to have a ton of microtransactions in the end. My backlog will keep me occupied in the meantime.

Great review - quick tidbit - there's an audio bug at the beginning / in editing I think you left a voice (very softly) sound bite included that can be heard in the left headphone.

Started playing the game when it was released on Xbox Series S through Game Pass. I really enjoyed it and still having fun with it.

The issue with this game, i think, is that the game is unsure of what demographic it's trying to hit. It would have possibly done better if they had committed it either being a kids game or a more challenging game targeting adult Disney fans. on a side note, i won the free game this week and have no idea how to go about getting that lol

I initially bought it for my kids but my youngest can't get through all of the dialogue and controls to play it. Looking at the trailers and character creator though, I think I was wrong in assuming it was a kid level game. It's at that Animal Crossing level and it was my fault for seeing the Disney characters and assuming kid game.

@@ImperfectionistGaming They have to retain the look of the source material that is designed to appeal to kids and insert a player created character in it that fits that aesthetic. It is going to appeal to children, but the trailer does kind of spell out what this is. AC does the same thing. You have to be able to read at a certain level in order to play that. Higher level with this game for sure though.

So there is no physical copy of the game?

I was going to ask how the day/night cycle work? Real time like ACNH or more like a Stardew with a “you’ll pass out if you don’t sleep”mechanic?… but by the sounds of it, you can just eat and keep playing entire in-game days one after another. That right?

I see all these comments saying its like animal crossing, but just from this review video alone it seems way more similar to grow song of the evertree than animal crossing. Especially with having to clear away thorns to expand the area and then having fast travel. Thats definitely a Grow similarity and not animal crossing.

Thanks for the review! PSN recommended this to me today and when I saw Disney and only $30 I immediately assumed that the game would be stripped down and filled with predatory micro transactions. Glad to hear that's not really a major thing.

3.3 Gig digital? 👀 Gameloft really are mobile handheld devs. Looks great, love the idea having to unlock, travel to and quest in themed worlds to get the host character for your village.

I got a gift card from your shop just for this game 😁 I'm a huge disney nerd. I wish there was an option to make the text a bit bigger in the game. I only play handheld and my eyes aren't the best 😅

Is this getting a cartridge or will this be strictly a download only game?

I am actually playing this on game pass and I am enjoying it. I was expecting it to be bad, because I wasn’t a fan of the Disney land one. this is early access and from what I understand when it releases next year I hear it will be a free to play. But it is a very Grindy game and time consuming it will take you a while to beat. I keep running into not being able to complete quests because I already sold items and have to wait for them to respawn. Because I pick up everything and you run out of space quickly. You can make more cheasts. I definitely recommend especially if you have game pass give it a go. I would also say if you don’t want to wait you can buy it anyone can play this game it’s a game for all ages it’s just enjoyable. They say more things will be added and on the task to move between area you have to grind out some of the objectives for dream shards and sometimes money especially when loveing to new areas. There is fast travel and you have to unlock goofy booth in every area so you don’t have to go back to stating area who’ve each area the price goes up. But it’s a great game.

How much content is in the game? Will there ever be a time that I'll run out of things to do before it's intended release; such as not being able to access more characters to bring back to the Valley?

As with all games - it has a finite amount of content but you could recreate your town etc. They will also be adding events and seasonal content - I see this one going the distance. Mark

You know what I mean? I understand the finite gameplay, I've been playing animal crossing for years. Just wondering on the early access aspect, as I've never played early access before, as a console only player

Great review, better game than expected. Long term concern with the developers and publishers is that micro transactions and updates could sneak there way in more and more, which has happens in MMOs for example. I might wait until performance is patched and see if they change the monetisation model. Sorry Gameloft and Disney, still got a bit to go until they've earned my trust, but definitely keeping my eye on it!

They stated it isn't a pay to win, nor wait a period to gain energy (I mean, it's not a mobile game, so I wouldn't expect that). They state that you get any dlcs free when you purchase the early access. The thing I'm worried about is paying for the early access, and they don't deliver on content, setting back release times, or completely robbing consumers by doing nothing with the product

Fair points, and it very much based on preference. Seeing things behind paywalls or pop up purchases (not that they do this currently) really cheapens the experience for me. Also the boosts are probably as close to pay to win can get in this type of game.

I'm usually able to ignore micro transactions because most of the time it's simple cosmetic stuff as well as only in the start up screen when you first open the game; I highly dislike when they add the micro transaction screen to the actual in game menu, which definitely happens here.

Hopefully you can include this in an all patched up video soon. I'll wait until then to decide whether to invest.

I’m loving the game so far. Since it’s early access maybe they can add a run button because it would be nice to move faster. My game crashed twice but I have high hopes for the improvements. I love the fact that the tools are just on the wheel and don’t take up inventory space.

I’m an adult and not a huge Disney fan… but I love this and I did buy into the ultimate one. I like shiny things… lol

If only I'm this early when you post game codes. 😂

There’s some loot bags although it’s more to get random items that you can get on the store but for free so yea it’s really good

This is quite a pleasant surprise and a well utilized license. While the tanking performance is an issue on the Switch (I actually thought the YT video was freezing), I think the overall game hits the mark with enjoyability and F2P price point. I plan to experience this on GamePass to start while waiting for some patches.

Fun for NOW?? I’m enjoying the game. This IS the early access version of the game. It is only currently available to players who purchase founders packs. *** The FREE to play version, will launch, along with the multi player in early 2023. I also suspect, that the patch will also shift the balance with regards to micro transactions.

Yes, it's cross-progression on any platform including PC and cloud gaming services as long as you link your game to the same Gameloft account.

Have any issues been addressed?

In the early iPhone days when Gameloft games weren't F2P, I actually quite enjoyed them. Those Dungeon Hunter and Modern Combat titles played like polished titles from a competent developer.

Is the audio in the beginning weird and messed up for anyone else?

It's pretty great. If you loved Animal Crossing you'll probably love this too. I haven't spent any money on it so that helps but still it's a lot of fun and very addictive.. My hands hurt from holding my phone

Might just check it once it goes on sale.

On the fence on this.. I thought I would get it for sure but the more I see of it, the less I'm feeling it.. I'll see how they roll out multiplayer and feel it out then...
