I still remember signing up for the Thrills and Chills Club package. Got a new Goosebumps every month, along with a bunch of other books of other horror fiction and monster lore (and one pair of Goosebumps boxer shorts in the first package). In retrospect, that impulsive purchase fostered a deep love of horror, cryptozoology, and folklore that endures to this day. To quote Dagoth Ur, "What a grand and intoxicating innocence."

For years, my aunt, aunt-in-law, and father-in-law would bring home fliers for me so I could continue to order. There was this great window of time where YA was clever and interesting, and I loved getting to have simple, digestible (but still well-written) books to read in my spare time. Something that didn't need too much of a mental commitment from me, but was more substantive than a magazine (while still often costing less than a magazine).

Millennials are the first "time traveling" generation. We've never really lost anything, which means we'll never feel real nostalgia. That TMNT movie you loved as a kid, they've remade it 2 different times. That Mario 64 game you loved so much. ...is available on the newest console ...in its original N64, and re-released upscaled version. We have access to all childhood memories at the tips of our fingers. You're not hurt because they "ruined (insert franchise)" but because you can't have it the way it was. Nostalgia died with Gen-X. This is much worse.

Will the WOKE cult influence just die off? Will we see it go by the way of The Pet Rock or collecting Cabbage Patch Kids dolls? . My gut tells me that by the time it is driven out of our lives, society will be so broken, that it will take several generations to begin putting us back on track. This assumes we don't have a total collapse and the WEF becomes the worlds POTUS.

Encanto was phenomenal

I just watched the ACTUAL goosebumps on Hulu (idk, one of those streaming sites) and I felt pure joy while binging. It’s the only show I don’t skip the intro credits 😭 that wholesome creepy music plus the terrible, stunning, and brave child acting *chef’s kiss* Wokies destroy everything they touch.

I always say all of the 90’s - 2000’s was the golden era of America. The music, movies, clothing, society as a whole, etc. I feel lucky to have been born in ‘90, so I’m able to remember a time before social media and the rest of the madness we see today. I just want to go back 😭

Eh, Slappy on the book cover was scarier than the fugly one in the show. I even had a book with all the Night of the Living Dummy trilogy in it and when you pushed a button, the eyes flashed red.

It seems Disney wants to ruin nostalgia at any rate. No matter the shape the nostalgia takes.

Goosebumps was my first exposure to many horror tropes in book form. I think “Are You Afraid of The Dark” is the better kids horror TV series.

They thought they were clever by using Travis Scott’s “goosebumps” throughout the trailer. I’m with Sean 100%, put the original. And actually just don’t remake it at all, because they’re going to tread all over our fond memories 😭

The only valid goosebumps is in vignette form. And yes, the cheese is also required. That's the whole point - it's kids being afraid of weird kid things.

I miss going to those book fairs in the elementary school library and buying Goosebumps and Fudge books. Being a kid in the 90s was great!

My kids have watched the old goosebumps series three times over. Acting so good I actually believed that one girl turned into a real cat lady creature.

Once they came for _Are You Afraid of The Dark?_ and _Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark,_ it was only a matter of time.

I understand the original isn’t an Oscar worthy performance but it’s liked by my generation because they put the effort into it. Yes, it was low budget and they had child actors, but it was done to the best ability. Here it’s Disney owning the name and just wants to use it. We have better production, better acting now and for some reason it’s worse.

Well that’s simply not true. It’ll never be the 90s show but it’s not bad by any means.

I honestly had no idea anyone had strong negative feelings towards Justin Long, ive always loved him in just about everything.

As someone who missed out on the Goosebumps books in their prime, I am outraged at this Disney version. Its like receiving the table scraps of something that use to be good.

I remember watching night of the living dummy on Halloween in 2nd grade. It became the most consistent nightmare I had growing up.

A true classic

The little girl who played Carly Beth in the Haunted Mask-- my personal favorite Goosebumps (had it on VHS as a youngin')-- actually tore that role up. That one still gives me nightmares...not really, but it was a cut above the standard Goosebumps terrible child acting and the concept was genuinely disturbing, especially to a small child. Justice for Carly Beth!!

That was the first episode I ever saw when I was 5. It was the year Goosebumps premiered and it amazed me!!! I was hooked from that episode and on. And yes. That actress did amazing playing Carli Beth. Also the mask on that epsiode was way scarier than the one on the remake.

You should have a series about all the edits they're making to books, movies and more recently rollercoasters!

At this point I don't even get excited when something that isn't a new anime gets announced I just groan and wonder how bad it's gonna be.

I actually hadn't watched this video until I saw the poll asking why it wasn't getting a lot of views.. and one of the options was that there was a dog in the theme song. And I had to see what that meant... this video was hilarious and that clip of the dog barking the theme song amidst all that passion for the series sent me. Thank you for bringing this egregious issue to light, Sean.

In other news, I watched, for ten minutes, an ant in her Sisyphean task of hauling a twig three times her length and three times her weight across a hundred other twigs just like it nearly four feet through the forest floor, only to pull it into her colony's front door to use as a ladder. Wielding my godlike power, I could have completed her task in four seconds, but it would only have caused her fear and confusion.

Lmao. Last night, after we finished an episode of Moon Knight, I was perusing the ol' Disney etc catalog, and I noticed this one. Had to call my husband back over to see for himself the image of Justin Long peeking from the side of the doorway. We didn't even have anything to say besides a scoff and laughing that this is what Disney chooses to do. I was the weird, quiet girl who read 5+ books a week all through grade school, so these books left a mark on me, as did the show. We couldn't bring ourselves to actually watch the trailer. Thanks for this.

The movie that creeped me out the most as a kid was the haunted mask.

The villain of the new Goosebumps is a teenage bargain bin Freddy Krueger. Burnt skin, firey death, going after the kids of the parents that caused his death, wnd gets them with nightmare sequences. Who is an emo kid manipulated by Slappy too..

That weird Disney "House Style" that they enforce over all of their media really is the most grating thing to literally every generation. It only appeals to Reddit Mods, MCU Fans and Funko Pop Collectors. The kind of people who think that randomly saying "Peanut Butter Pickle Cheese Burgers Bacon Waffle Pizza Milkshakes!" is "Peak Comedy" and unironically does the DreamWorks Sideways Smirk and One Raised Eyebrow" multiple times throughout their day and will say "Erm. Yeah that just happened!" and "I just did a thing!" every time something happens around them. It is strange how all of their media is so interchangeable with one another.

Many movies with a diverse cast made money like Spider man, Black Panther, Sonic, etc. I watched the first 5 episodes, diversity isn't the issue at all. It's more like River dale than Goosebumps. These characters could be all white and it would still suck lol

That camera idea was from an episode of the Twilight Zone titled “A Most Unusual Camera” where the camera took pictures from the future. Everything in the picture eventually comes to pass.

At first, when I saw the trailer I thought the same, there’s zero nostalgia from this remake, but then I remembered RL Stein haunting hour and was skeptical at first, but it was pretty good. If this is anything like that I’d be OK with it.

Goosebumps was only a book series when I was growing up. I had no clue there was a show.

I was born and raised outside of the states, so had no idea about this whole "Goosebumps" series until now, but I totally agree that it's either the yellow-eyed dog barking the song, or NOTHING!

I remember in public school from the schoolastic order form sheet they had goosebumps books for order. I think I had the books that had an executioner in the tower and also a boys head on a bees body.

I just realized that French TV stole a barking possessed dog from my childhood. In the French generic of Chair de Poule (Goosebumps), they slightly changed the music and didn't include the barking. I feel scammed

I grew up in the '70's so I'm too old to know about Goosebumps. But Sean's exquisite display of affront and injury has given me a vicarious appreciation for the original Goosebumps. Consequently, I am also offended by what Disney did in this re-boot, which at this point is my reaction to everything Disney has done over the past 20 years.

I was already an adult when "Goosebumps" was popular, so I never really got into it.. I have a younger brother tho, and he was obsessed with the books, and he had a ton of them - like 50+ easily, lol... So yea, I've read a couple of them just because I was probably bored and stoned and I found them entertaining... Look, I'm for whatever it takes to get kids to read - and the Goosebumps series did a good job getting kids to read, so kudos to them.
