The pace of the restoration is increasing almost exponentially. I'm sure I'm not the only viewer eager to see the completed roofline and new windows/doors. As for the balustrades, they're a bit busy and compete with the balustrades on the Juliette balcony above. Maybe replace them with an iron or wood decorative panel with the window above or simply have all-window for light and visibility? In any event, what an admirable endeavor!

You don't need any backseat helpers, but I gotta make ONE suggestion. One. Put some anti-skid grip tape on those stairs/ramps of yours, like you'd put on the top of a skate board. It's part of the original build - otherwise you might as well save a ton of bother, level the site and put a row of Barratt starter homes where the chateau once stood. All the architectural features should go back - balustrades, wood panelling, cornices, fireplaces, the whole lot. Otherwise, what's the point? If you want a historic property like this one, it's got to be all in, or nothing. No mods - that was Mironnet's mistake with the place. What looks de rigueur now, will look deeply naff twenty, thirty years down the road. Better to keep it stock original and be the custodian.

The only reason they didn't have large, uninterrupted windows in Chateaus back then is that such large panes of glass were too difficult to make and transport. One BIG arched window without any obstruction would be heaven. Don't forget Dan, each person who undertakes these mammoth jobs needs to put their own stamp on it as well. JUst like you and Stephanie have uncovered various decades or centuries of various owners putting their own spin on things. One day in the future as another owner takes hold, they'll say Dan in 2024, a gardener, chef and all around genius, decided to open up the view to the gardens and let in more light and nature. It's easy enough to add on, but your idea with one window is superb.

I love seeing the twins busy at work together. Just a suggestion, add a safety net across the lower half of the window that can be undone on one end when needed but might prevent a fall when in place. It'd be terrible if something hapened to OPM. His mother would never forgive you.

I agree with u Dan! I know u want to renovate it the same way it used to be, but I also think that leaving that opening,or bringing modern touches will not take from the history of the building, I prefere that baie open to the outside...without blocking the view! People always renovated those old houses bringing modern touches so it's your house,ur building and if u like it with a big vitrine then do it! U r already saving the walls and rebuilding the floors and roof!

Gosh! The exterior is coming along so nicely! Then the indoors restoration starts, then the decor! I love looking at Country French interior magazines...that chateau could be so beautiful! Not necessarily like the original, if going to be housing a getaway for boys in the future. Rugged, yet gorgeously turned out! 😀😉

The ironwork might have been a later addition but the balustrade in the window can be seen in photos from over a 100 years ago. The original might have been replaced over the years with a copy in concrete but a balustrade was always there. Would be a shame to not have it reinstated given how it's part of the architecture.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the balustrade, it was a purely decorative feature which could be redone at any point. However, that large window space would lend itself well to a large window like you're talking about, It could even be a stained glass window too. Or maybe a stained glass surround with a clear center so you get the best of both worlds. It certainly is a very nice space for some decorative glass work.
