These are around $20 for 62-76 loads:

This is 75 Oz of dishwasher detergent for the same price but is more then 2 times the amount of detergent (and you might find it even cheaper at your local supermarket).

And the dawn dish soap is only $9

    DO NOT DO THIS!!! If your measurements are off it will flood your washer and it will break eventually. Just go buy detergent or wash the dish by hand the old fashioned way then put them in the dishwasher and let the steam clean the rest.

    You are correct about the pods and that using the powder detergents are much cheaper and just as good if not better. You just need to understand how much detergent your individual dishwasher needs. If you're having detergent powder left over after the was, this is because you've used too much.

    I’ve been doing the same thing for years, all the bozos in the comments complaining that it’s bad for the dishwasher don’t know that the pre wash is used to rinse off oil and debris, a bit of dish soap is the perfect degreaser if you use a small amount. If you use too much it’s a mess but a small amount works wonders. And no it’s nots “bad” for your dishwasher if you don’t use it like regular dishwasher detergent. If you use it as a pre wash it is amazing.

    I appreciate that you took the time to make this video, but there is a lot more to it than that. In the bricks (pods), those aren’t just pretty colors for marketing. Those are buffers (among other things). I used plain dishwasher detergent powder (Cascade) and it began to wash off a logo on one of my coffee cups. The logo faded and bled leaving streaks on the mug. Using the bricks, this never happened. The powder also leaves a white residue on the dishes (regardless of whether a rinse agent is used or not), while the bricks do not. So they’re not just expensive marketing. They’re more sophisticated than that. Adding liquid dish soap may or may not do a whole lot. If anything, I’d add a SMALL amount on the door for the initial soak cycle to help the hot water loosen the dirt. Beyond that, it’s a waste of money in my opinion. “Those pods. Just their very design means they’re not going to work very well” (source: trust me, bro)

    Your mug should probably be hand washed. Just like aluminum, not all dishes are safe to was in a machine with any kind of washing machine soap. If you have residue, your using too much of the powder. Here's a source: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaZ2sZqnlbrdYJc.htmlsi=meaXk_ebTHUh3lr6

    Do not do that, your powder is designed to be used as a prewash because it has specific soaps in it to help break down the food, and get rid of the oil in your prewash cycle. DO NOT USE DISH DETERGENTS, the powder and pods are supposed to be used for both!!!!!!

    Do you know if you can also add rubbing alcohol to the dishwasher? I’m thinking, adding rubbing alcohol would help sanitize the dishes.

  • @SJsAdv

    @SJsAdv

    Жыл бұрын

    I doubt it will do much to help clean the dishwasher. Rubbing alcohol is great for destroying bacteria, but most of what's inside your dishawasher is plastic. Most types of bacteria aren't likely to live very well on most plastics. Alcohol can actually cause problems for rubber bushings, causing them to dry up. And most appliances that use water have rubber bushings in them. So I'd actually discourage using alcohol based cleaners in a dishwasher. What you really need for a dishwasher is something that will dissolve grease and minerals. Running a cycle with it empty using a little dish soap or wiping it down with a rag soaked in CLR would be a better option. There's also cleaners specifically for cleaning dishwashers.

    As you point out on the narrative on your video, ‘there’ll be suds coming out of the vent’ that’s not good for your machine or the kitchen. I understand that you say ‘use a tiny amount!’ But using such a small amount won’t likely make an obvious difference anyway (detergent to water ratio). If you’re having to ‘help’ the dishwasher detergent, do the very job it was designed for, by adding Dawn or whatever because of too much grease, you’re putting too much grease in your dishwasher. Or cascade need to up their game 👍🏻

    That tiny bit of soap he put in there for the pre-wash just helps get rid of the grease before the detergent powder is released for the main wash. Your washing machine goes through three separate water cycles. The first bit just knocks off the majority of the garbage and grease and you have to have a tiny bit of detergent in there to keep it from reappearing to all the services and that is when more water gets pumped in and the door flips open and your main wash detergent dissolves. This is why tablets are notoriously give a subpar performance because they're already dissolved and gone before your main wash cycle even starts
