Discovering Mennonite Culture | Oh My God | Parable

There are over 2 million Mennonites, yet their beliefs and cultures are commonly misunderstood. Not to be confused with the Amish, Mennonites live without modern conveniences, drive horse and buggies and worship in their own devout yet simple ways. Join Tevya as he goes off the grid into a world where technology is taboo and life is humble. Can this city boy survive a cattle auction, farming by hand and a quilting circle?

They don't take vows as it says in the bible, and focus on there being two kingdoms, the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of God. Because of this, they don't vote or hold public office. They see church community as very important. They also strongly believe in non-resistance (no war). Other than these things, they seem similar to baptists, but are arminian not calvinist.

Romans, I am very familiar with them. I would not call them Armenian or Calvinistic. I was raised Mennonite, grew up in St. Jacobs, and know some of the people in this documentary. In fact, my first home was on one of the farms in this program. Unfortunately, Tevya seems afraid/unable to engage with the Mennonite community as equals in this program. I'm not sure what's happened in his life to make him feel that this style of inquiry is informative or respectful. I hope, Tevya, that if ever someone chooses to investigate your history, belief system, and lifestyle they will take you seriously. You deserve that. So do we.

I cringed so much and couldn't watch the whole thing in one sitting. Especially in Canada, where we embrace diversity, this is unacceptable. Kudos to all those who were interviewed and responded to his questions nicely and seriously, making this documentary more informative.

There are so many different denominations of Mennonites that all have some differences. I met a liberal Mennonite couple that drove to my state to pick up a puppy. The husband wore normal men's clothing while his wife wore an old fashioned dress and bonnet. I asked if they lived without electricity, like the Amish, and they told me they were allowed to have electricity. I think the ones in America may be more liberal. I also wish this video had concentrated on their religious beliefs, that's what interests me most.

The Mennonites share a similar lifestyle tradition with that of the First Nations People before and after colonization. Indigenous individuals had a mix of Catholic and Anglican influences alongside their native cultures, resulting in a lifestyle that closely resembled that of Mennonites. Sometimes, I find myself wishing for someone who embraces the "oneness doctrine" and lives that lifestyle, although such an individual has not emerged yet. While I don't personally align with Mennonite doctrines, I wholeheartedly appreciate their fresh and beautiful lifestyle, which resonates with my own beliefs. Their emphasis on living off the land, sharing resources, minimizing waste, and embracing a diligent work ethic are aspects of their lifestyle that I deeply admire. Combining the Mennonite lifestyle with the doctrines of Oneness apostolic beliefs, while also adopting an off-grid approach to the world, would indeed create a truly ideal scenario, often referred to as "The Apostleship." This concept involves embracing only the Mennonite lifestyle and adhering solely to the Oneness Apostolic doctrines. Sincerely, - First Nation Name Believer

Yeah.....I think he really wanted to know and understand the Mennonites but it came across as rude and condescending.

Sunday, June 19, 2022 I like how the host shows so much enthusiasm for Mennonite culture, and he was so keen to learn about farming and even quilting! 🙂

😢Dear Minnonites I just had a little tall with one of your agents who is with a group in my hometown of Los Angeles California The agent was given away religious tracts. I said to him. "It's hell down here. There needs to be an army of you down here. I said something that I couldn't understand. And I answered. You have my prayer. At one time I favored the Minnonites mostly for their piety. But at the moment, The Gates of Hell have apparently prevailed here in Los Angeles and there seems to be nothing that they or anyone else can do about that. They are defeated. I don't think they know that they have been defeated So, they show up here in downtown Los Angeles pandering. That's the Invisible purpose of their being here in the community. To exploit is and put us on Exhibition and for their own entertainment and amusement. 🇺🇸

Most Mennonites in the United States drive cars but still dress like very conservatively. It is the Amish who drive horse and buggy’s there in the states.
