I know I shouldn't laugh Paul, but the hot soup!! Hope your burn didn't cause you too much grief. You're redesigned pole set-up appeared to work well and beautiful sunny days on the water & those magical misty morning views made up for the lack of wind.

Thanks Ginny, yes the morning mist was fantastic but I wish the wind forecast would be a bit more accurate, cheers Paul
Thanks Paul.. I must say that living vicariously is my strong suite right now. Like others, I am impressed by the boom tent framing - quite the Tardis. Even with the motor it was an enjoyable time to spend looking over your shoulder.

Thanks for another great video. But lucky you, 20 degrees during the day and 8 at night! And you almost call that winter and chilly! It's a decent day in the summer here in Sweden! 😊

Hi Anders, yes Autumn in Sydney is beautiful, clear blue skies and a bit chilly, the best time of year for sailing as it's not crowded. Today is out first day of winter and winter is normally drier than summer and also with clear skies. You should come and visit one day....but it is a long way, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Great mist sequence Paul. Was a lovely week to just bob about on the water, Saturday was similar.

It was funny to hear you talking about the beginning of winter there as its the beginning of summer here...but it's also curious to think you all walk around upside down compared to us folks in the northern hemisphere..😁 From your point of view I suppose we're the upsidedown ones...Gravity is a weird thing! (I believe Mr. Einstein reckoned it's just a distortion of space time...I start to lose my grip on reality at this point!). I always find your sailing videos refreshingly peaceful...👍🌞

Paul your channel is getting better with each passing episode. I loved the footage of the misty morning. I went for a sail this week end and It was a beautiful day on Sydney Harbour yet there only was a handfull of boats out there on the water, but hundreds were moored and tied up in marinas...I never understand that ?!

You did a lot of motoring this time. I could not stop to wonder how much power reserves you have - how far can you go if the wind fails completely? On my 20ft yacht I started out on a electric outboard motor (elderly model), but had only battery capacity for approx one hour, so it was just meant for leaving and entering harbour areas. It soon prooved to be insuficient for situations with loss of wind, so today I use a 4hp Yamaha! Nice roomy tent you have constructed. I only have a canvas to put over the boom - not much room there 🙂 Best regards from Denmark

Hi Bent, yes my electric Torqeedo is about 10 years old. It doesn't have a readout like the newer models, so yes you have no idea how long it will run. I have 2 lead acid batteries which you shouldn't run down below 50%. According to the book at the lowest speed (1 knot) it should run for 10 hrs and the top speed (5 knots) 1 hr. But I do live in fear of running the batteries flat. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul

poor man. My wife and I sailed the 2018 Marlay Point Over Night Race. Becalmed across Lake Wellington, through the night. Tide took us (with NO steerage) through the McLennan strait, into Lake Victoria. Spent a frustrating morning trying to catch a breeze. Incoming tide took us 200 m's backward. I hate being becalmed. so frustrating.
@SailingKateLouise
Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on that, cheers Paul
Nice food and nice views of waters I have ridden via ferry years ago. But I'm surprised at how often you're unexpectedly becalmed. I use fine granularity aviation weather predictions (of every 2 or 3 hours) with some local knowledge, and can usually avoid calm days. Especially watch for airmass convection potential such as lapse rate like a sailplane pilot gathers from weather balloon info; daytime convection should suck the air in one direction or another, or otherwise leave dead air. I am less successful predicting wind direction or precipitation. P.S. Might be interesting comparing likes and dislikes of diverse sail configurations in your group.

@@SailingKateLouise I may have missed it in other videos you have done but do you have anything special on the hull to guard against wear when you stay in shallow waters overnight - ps Im not selling anything Paul just wondering because Ive seen some British dinghy sailors use nylon or teflon strips or metal strips , even sacrificial timber strips on the areas that touch the sand etc when they're beached on low tide

Hi yes there is a wide brass running strip that runs the length of the skeg. As there is no centre board it protects the skeg well though I try to avoid bouncing on the bottom and as where I sail doesn't really have a big tidal ra get I don't dry out. But the new Stornaway has removable legs for drying out and staying upright. Cheers Paul
