    Regarding the pot scourer - That put me in mind of an old western movie about a cattle drive. The cowboys were all back in camp for the night, and the chuck wagon cook was dishing out supper. One of the cowboys complained that his plate wasn't clean enough. The cook said "If they're clean enough to stop eating off of, then they're clean enough to start eating off of!"

    @@SailingKateLouise No, Paul, mold hasn't been a problem. I leave the front and back of the tarp open somewhat for airing. We only get about 35 inches of rain during our rain season of Oct thru April/May, so we have many days of dry weather. I often can sail several days a month during our fall-winter months.

    Hi Paul The flying boat photo is not a Catalina - it is a Dornier DO 24 - and these were operated at Rathmines from 1941 to 1944 in tandem with the Catalina’s I deal with that plane in my video which I should finish over the weekend. That plane and about 5 others like it ended up at Rathmines as the result of a twist of fate that saw the RAAF operating German aircraft during the war.

    @@SailingKateLouiseAn easily made mistake - the extra engine is the give away. They were Dutch East Indies Air Force planes flown to Australia ahead of the Japanese advance through Indonesia. The only difference between them and the Luftwaffe planes was these had American Wright radial engines - the same as used in the Martin seaplanes the Dutch were also using, which also ended up in the RAAF. The Dutch and some Indonesian and Eurasian crews completed training at Rathmines and were then shipped to England via the USA to fight Germans. They left the planes behind and they were formally gifted to the RAAF. When the Australian crews turned up to fly them - they couldn’t - because all the controls, dials, gauges and the manuals were all written in German. Took a few weeks to sort out.

    I know that you like your boat; however, you’re a seasoned, good sailor. I trust that you have a pretty good idea, among the dinghies and day sailing boats that you lead on these raids, so, which boat is the best, all round sail boat? What makes a well mannered, fast adventure dinghy sailboat?

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    2 ай бұрын

    Wow that's a huge question, that's pretty hard to answer. I you want to build yourself to save some dollars, in an open dinghy you can't go past the Iain Oughtred Fulmar or maybe the slightly smaller Gannet. If you can afford to buy, maybe a Bayraider 17. With a cabin a Stornaway like mine or a Pathfinder, if you just want to get on the water in Australia, Hartley 16's are common and Compass Careels in fibreglass. If you are overseas, I can't really help sorry...there are just so many to choose from, but thanks for the question , cheers Paul. p.s. if you want to discuss further email me at sailingkatelouise@gmail.com

    Gracias, envíeme una foto de sus barcos, si aún no lo ha hecho. Que tengas una excelente Navidad y un próspero año nuevo, Paul en Sydney.

    Los gobiernos de Aca castigan con muchas regulaciones a quienes construyen embarcaciones de más de 13 pies,lo que hace que la industria de. embarcaciones este cada día más paralizada.,y atrasada.Saludos desde Argentina

    Vaya, eso es increíble... ¿el gobierno limita el tamaño del barco que puedes construir? eso es una locura
