I bought the full deus 2 when they first came out. I use the ws6 master set up all the time. It works flawlessly. Light weight and easy to get around in the woods especially with the 9 inch coil. I dug a harmonica plate the other day at 18 inches. My friends had other detectors and they couldn't hit it. 9 inch coil goes deep too!!

I'm new to the deus but I've been detecting since 2008. I started with the V3i which was a very programmable detector for it's day. I switched to an equinox 800 for a couple years but hated you really couldn't dial it in much. The deus 2 is the detector I've been waiting for! I loaded your program and tweaked it for the carolina beaches. I have to say it does go very deep and works fantastic in the iron on the beaches here. I love the audio response up higher since this thing runs very quiet. You can tell how deep something is based on the pinpoint volume. Great job on the program Merrill and thanks for the videos that helped me find the deus.

Hey Merrill, I use the main control box, but run the antenna through the stem and have it just barely poke out of the mounting “bracket.” Just like you showed, there is no need for it to wrap around the top, unless you fully submerge it. I haven’t tested it, but I imagine that as long as the antenna is above water, it can be any distance from the controller, just like the coil itself. I haven’t updated from the version .75?, so I don’t know that this works with newer versions. For bottle caps, I just keep Deep High Conductor next to my beach program. For me, bottle caps come in two ranges (mid 70s and I believe mid 60s). I haven’t detected at the beach yet this year, so my memories a little rusty. If I suspect one (or any other iron), I flip to DHC. If the VDI changes by about 10, it’s a bottle cap/iron. Of course this doesn’t help with aluminum bottle caps.

Brilliant minds think alike 😉. It’s a very similar program to my beach program. I run sens. Of 98, I still like using pitch sound, and prefer Bottle Caps on 1 but other than that, just a number here or there. Can’t get past Salt Sensitivity of 8, it just gets too fruity. Once you start using the XP in the way you illustrated, you realize just how hot the XP is and what it’s capable of. Remote or Puck, it’s an awesome beach machine but Shhh! Don’t tell anyone 😂

OK this might help. Audio Response is not like sensitivity or reactivity or a higher power level like in Deep HC. Audio response is an awareness function. The Deus 2 is a sophisticated tool to help our brain inference. On a beach, targets are usually spread out. At this time of year the beach has more sand on it than other seasons (this is true at least in New York). You can miss a deep signal with a low audio response if you are not listening very carefully. A high audio response will make deep signals sound more like surface signals (notice that I said "more like" instead of "exactly like"). If you have incredible hearing, and you can hear the softest signals with a medium audio response, you might be able to rock with that. But I use audio response to cue me in on those deep signals. I am self aware and hearing wise, I need things spelled out!

Merrill, with audio at 7, salt at 9, it seems like it would be very erratic. I used Minelab forever and got spoiled with how smooth they typically ran. I have not had enough practice with the Deus 2 to get it dialed in. I will try your settings. QUESTION; if you don’t want the tiny stuff, could you get similar depth/results with Dive since it has the lower frequencies?

It is running hot (erratic) and im used to that. I can still pick out the differences in sound when I go over a target. Cratermaker is for situations like sanded in beaches where you are trying to punch deep. You can do great with dive and beach P. I have gone a little deeper with Cratermaker but that is not everything. The other programs are fantastic.

Looking for small gold and the elusive elongated gold chain on salt water beaches (Eastern USA), what are your thoughts on desensitizing the 40kHz beach sensitive vs. going down to 24kHz beach? In other words, is a desensitized 40kHz more efficient for finding small gold than a sensitive 24kHz? I see your crater program and all the others, however, if gold is more responsive to higher frequencies I'm wondering how much can 40Khz be desensitized before it becomes useless.

18” for a zinc penny, imagine how deep a class ring would hit?

I think it's important to mention that while you can attach the antenna for shallow water hunting, the WS6 control puck is NOT waterproof. Meaning you can't submerge it in the water. So on wavy days you can't go very deep and if you drop it into the water, it's going to possibly be ruined forever. It's not the best configuration for hunting in the water honestly. You'd need to purchase the control box and the water proof wired headphones.

I wish we could hear if it is running smooth or erratic? Too much noise and I can’t take it, lol
