I'm so happy I subbed to your channel! Your garage is meticulous (I'm the same), and I think the amount of info you give is really helpful. I'm hoping to get a GT3 in 2016 (so I can save 2015 to buy it in full).

It might be a bit hard core for a trip. But I like the way it sounded, a bit more mean in the lower revs. Would love to have the option to do this on my car (2014 Golf MK7 GTI) - The old MK6 R had these valves/flaps which you could disconnect and it was louder all the time. Dont got that on the newer models tho, so Ill have to get an aftermarket exhaust...

Matt thank you for being so accessible and I promote OG at every opportunity ... question ... Fabspeed valved side deletes or SW valved disconnected ? I use my GT3T for occasional spirited twisty road rips and want a retro old school feel ... appreciate your advice

Do you have to start it ,open the valves and turn it off like with the m3? Or just remove the cables?

+ELComandante The GT3 is a vacuum actuated system versus the M3 being electronic. I just disconnected the vacuum lines.

I am glad to see someone who did this. The valve issue has been annoying me since the first day I pick up the car. The valve opens when PSE is on at idle, it closes when the rev is over 1500rpm. it opens again when you rev over 4000rpm. The way the valve operates is so weird, just like you described in the video. I am getting the GMG header with high-flow cat. If the exhaust issue doesn't get any better after fitting the GMG header. I would probably also disconnect the valve tube as you did. Awesome attempt mate. Awesome! I have got one question. Do you notice a lot of drone when travelling at busy traffic? especially at lower rev range.

  • @ObsessedGarage

It does drone, so I'm not sure I'm going to keep it disconnected. I'm still holding onto hope that someone else other than iPE will come up with an aftermarket full rear section. Let me know what you think about the GMG set-up. I'm interested in it. I'm actually going to dyno the car on Friday to test if there is any power gained or lost from disconnecting the valves. I'll take some video.

Matt Moreman Ohh, it drones... Might find another solution then. But it's always good to know there's someone trying to fix the "valve issue". I don't like IPE product personally. Their full exhaust setup is too loud for my taste. I will post the feedback here after fitting the GMG stuff.

Yes and no. The M3 doesn't have vacuum actuated valves. They are electronic. Porsche uses a vacuum system.

Hey Matt, capristo makes an exhaust valve remote kit for all of the high end cars, take a look at it... I didn't buy it for my Lambo as I got use to the car with the valves open all of the time Im so torn on whether to buy a 991 GT3 (I'm a big porsche guy) or the bargain Mclaren mp4.... thoughts? Impressions?

Great videos! You have inspired me to purchase the Kranzle K1122TST 1400psi electric power washer. Question, do you wish you had purchased the 1600 or 2000psi model? Btw, the garage floor looks great.

At first, I thought I would want a higher output electrical pressure washer to use around the house. Then I realized, there is zero chance I'm going to actually use it for anything other than my car. My pressure washer guy charges me $200 every six months to do my whole driveway and house. He has a $4000 monster machine. You aren't going to want to use an electric pressure washer to clean a driveway, so I stuck with the basic one.

Won't the flap still be closed, when removing the vacuum line? How to set the the flap OPEN.... before detaching the vacuum line? Is the flap spring-loaded closed, by default?

  • @ObsessedGarage

Not on these cars. They are vacuum actuated not electronic. Once it's open, it won't close unless vacuum pulls it closed.

Can I have your opinion? My dad is looking at another car to buy and so far he's looking at a 2014 Porsche 911 GT3, 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus, 2014 SRT Viper GTS, 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2, or and 2012 McLaren 12c. What do you think he should get l?

  • @ObsessedGarage

    @ObsessedGarage

I am a little biased, but I would chose the 991 GT3. Second would be the 12c. The Turbo S is too soft, R8 is seems old and is something to get after you've had like 10 911s, Viper is a death trap, and Gallardo is all flash.

Maybe.. Porsche run it that way to put in a restriction at lower rpm therefore creating more torque at low and mid rpm and opening at higher revs for more hp up the top. They know what they are doing. Just a thought for the constant on and off.

I've test the valve operation with it connected and disconnected. It all instances, lower, upper, mid throttle, wide open throttle; the car made more horsepower and torque with the valves forced open. There is no question the valves are simply there for noise.

Why don't you just install a module that bypasses the "speed-depending" control? In the Nederlands there is a company called Carnewal that produces something like this. I think with this module installed you can still actually use the valves.

My theory is that the valves gives you more backpressure in the exhaust and at lower RPMs that gives you torque. That's most likely why there is no always open setting from factory. If you open them by disconnecting them I would say you loose that torque, just like the IPE exhaust.

I did a study on a Dyno to test this. I have another video on my channel that shows the results. My theory was that Porsche made the valves open and close simply to control drone. The car made more power under moderate and heavy acceleration with the valve forced open.
