Part of me wants to think this is Kim being so absurdly obviously a cop trying to buy drugs that he ruins Harrys chance of getting any drugs to protect him.

Yo, Kim isn't trying to pass a Drama check to just entrap Acele, he is concerned for Harry and his sudden seriousness into probing what Harry's intentions are reflect that and is making a mock character of a narc to signal to Acele to NOT comply. From Kim's Disco Elysium Wiki *If Harry has previously used speed or pyrholidon, asking Acele if she "wants to party"[154] will lead to Kim attempting to solicit drugs by pretending to be high.* Besides, there’s many other real flaws within the lieutenant anyways, just not this one. I think people misread this scene.

Even though this is very much a failed electrochemistry check from Kim, I've gotta respect the way he immediately follows your lead and commits to it. He doesn't do it half halfheartedly out of embarrassment or reluctance, he's like: "Alright sure harry might be right, I didn't make that connection about the hat thing, lets see where this goes"

You always gotta put a little something before Cop in order to make it seem less bad. Art Cop. Commie Cop. Fail Cop. Goofball Cop. Superstar Cop. Or else if it's just Cop. No one likes it. No one likes a "just-a-cop." They gotta be special. Which is why detectives are far more respected. They're "Basically a cop but less street patrol and handcuffs and more magnifying glasses and notebooks." which everyone agrees is far more approachable and respectable, maybe even take-to-the-local-diner-for-some-coffee-able. Which is why the most rewarding parts of Disco Elysium by design are when you stop being a cop and act like a person. Hard to do after having it ingrained into most of the aspects of your very existence, but you manage to do both with varying degrees of relative success and failure. But they're not just cops. They're the Revachol Citizens Militia. They're supposed to be better than just cops. Or worse, as moralist pawns. But anyway, the only cop you can't be in Disco is a good one, but maybe, just maybe, you can be a good person.

yeah i dont think he expected her to fall for it at all. likely did it to keep harry from getting drugs and also make him look less crazy for asking a random kid for drugs.

This isn't him trying to act like a drug addicted teen looking for drugs. This is him acting like his very annoying, drug addicted partner whose first statement to half the people they meet is something drug related.

Harry saying something stupid and Kim having to play along to pose it as a part of investigation and a method of questioning is my favourite kind of joke in Disco Elysium.

Kim is a gift to mankind

Kim is great but this is one of the most uncomfortable moments in the game for me because this is where you really get faced with the fact that Kim is a cop and, not only that, was (however reluctantly) a juvie cop for years. Acting hip and younger than your age is dorky and cute when you're just trying and failing to relate to a kid. It's sinister when you're doing it to deceive them in order to potentially make an arrest.

You’re totally right, and as much as I thought this scene was hilarious it was pretty jarring to remember the context. However, I think as long as theyre not distributing, they really do seem to exclusively just confiscate drugs and move on. Kind of useless and small potatoes really on their end lol no wonder the RCM is being absolutely porked by La Puta Madre

I wouldn't like that. To me, the most important part of this game is its medium. I can see how it came from the initial idea of being a book and how it evolves into this beautiful thing. Making a (non-interactive) film about it wouldn't really portray any of the important things the game says... my two cents I guess.

B-Hydroxy-Phenothiazine is not a chemical that exists in real life. Phenothiazine cannot contain a b-hydroxy group, that's structurally impossible. It seems Disco Elysium only used real drugs when they're legal in most places. Nicotine, alcohol, and speed are all just their real world counterparts (speed isn't legal, but they never refer to it by it's chemical name). Pyrholidon is obviously supposed to be a stand in for some sort of psychedelic drug like Psilocybin.

This was great. Sucks they canceled the sequel.

@@andrewblalock3037 you can meet a Super-rich fellow and give him a business idea, that he then gives you stocks in, which adds the net worth counter. its functionally worthless as harry has no way to actually cash in said stocks.

so ... the "without even noticing the young womans hand rises to greet your nose" .. we gonna just ignore that ? this game is broken. The voice over says you got punched in the face ... the game says reaction speed success (so you wouldn't get punched) but doesn't mention any of that. Imagine a street kid punching two cops ... what the fuck kind of story line is this? She would get the shit beaten out of her right there and then. Complete immersion break. This is a game breaking issue and yet this game gets praised..

Sounds like a single voice line got mislabelled and attached to the wrong line of dialogue. Very mildly immersion breaking, but anyone with a lick of sense can see "Oh, that's not what happened, she didn't punch you, the written dialogue is correct." 'Game breaking issue', c'mon...
