Listen, I am willing to pick every single racist, fascist, misogonistic dialogue option in the game just to see how the characters react to it, but the church scene? No. No, no, no. Can't fucking do it, man.

I couldn't finish this, Kim's voice acting is killing me, I've never heard him so disappointed and angry before Time to do another run and be the best Harry he deserves

Right! I don't think she really meant it as a racist thing. In her mind, it's probably just a scientific factoid and doesn't view Kim as less. But yes, Kim is definitely a brother from another mother. lol

@suicune2001 I don't believe she means him ill in what she says, of course, but I really do think the "race science" stuff the more conservative characters spout off has permeated the speculation of the cryptozoologists due to Gary's prejudices, and maybe longstanding prejudices in the world of the game in general. It's a very good demonstration of how otherwise good people can still spread dangerously divisive concepts. She obviously wouldn't take that information and say Seolites should have fewer legal rights or be regarded separately from occidentals, but it's easy to see how a group or someone else thinking that could come to use that belief to justify it. All the same, it was a very awkward moment. I really didn't want to be mean to Lena, but I also wanted to stand behind Kim.

Glad i could see the options i would never pick in a million years

I just finished this game hours ago. This is a great example of an amazing scene that is hidden behind actions most wouldn't dare to do. I won't lie I did my share of save scumming, and I 100% would have desperately save scummed to avoid saying something like that to Lt. Kitsuragi. But it's nice to know that the devs and directors had something rich hidden behind everything. Its amazing.

There is soooo much in that game! I honestly think it's one of the best games ever made.

[SPOILERS] He says “Of course that's what you think, contrary to all evidence and experience. I'm not here for your sake. I'm staying because *I* have to protect the investigation *from you*...” Plus all other options lower reputation with him for a total of -2, this one is *-3*.

Oooooof this hurts SO MUCH! Cause if you play it as a little less of an asshole than you have the potential to be, Kim is ready to look past so many your flaws and really bonds with you. Gets protective over you. Enjoys spending time with you. He smiles at the dumb things you say! Says he'd like to hang out with you after the case! Lets himself get roped into all your little hijinks and schemes. And supports you and sticks up for you in front of your very pissed best friend. Kim is really ready to give you a chance where many others wouldn't so to hurt him and disappoint him so much is just so heartbreaking to watch. I could never.

I was so fucked up when I realized that "Monkey Fucker" was not an equivalent of "Motherfucker". I didn't get that volition check that tells you to apologize - I thought I was just doubling down on being a goofball. Damn.

that is so so realistic though. The amount of little sayings I grew up with and didn't realise were slurs until later on and way too late. Lets say my vocabulary is different now.

The final cut's voice acting just makes this so much painful... T_T

"He doesn't seem to have any character flaws. No human being can be that perfect." Got a friend like that. It was a sobering moment realizing that I'm the Dubois to his Katsuragi.

Me (currently in my first playthrough): "aw, Lena and Morell seem so nice. I wonder why they hang out with a guy like Gary The Cryptofascist, though..." *0:34* Me: ....... oh.

I wonder how many people actually went trough with *not* apologizing to Kim. I'm sure you'd only need one hand to count them.

This is even more painful then the final dream in the flak tower. In my playthrough I always put Kim's wellbeing first and Harry and him became besties because of it. Whatever wacky shit I'll do in future playthroughs, I CAN NEVER disappoint him! Thank you for your sacrifice :_:7

Thanks! It really was painful. And you know what's worse? This isn't even the worst thing you can do to Kim. 😭 The darkest thing I've ever seen in this game is when Harry puts a gun in his mouth and Kim has to try and talk him out of killing himself. You can even pull the trigger. I think you get a game over screen but I don't remember and apparently I didn't record it if you did. I think that was too depressing even for me.

@@suicune2001 Oh yeah that can happen if you fail the Authority-check against Titus and his boys. Kim mellows things out, claiming this is just Harry's odd sense of humor and you can actually give Kim his gun back. If you do, it's one of the rare instances where Kim shouts at you to never do that again the second you leave the union room and then leaves for the rest of the day. His reaction makes sense and especially hurts given the backstory that Kim has already lost a partner before AND that there is a possible suicide in the ongoing story you may or may not prevent. Seeing Kim's reaction to that heavily implies that this wasn't his first time witnessing suicide firsthand and he STILL focuses on calming down Harry. This game, this MAN! T_T

@@suicune2001 oh yeah and if you pull the trigger, the newspaper clip quotes the Hardies being confused about DuBois' odd behavior and iirc Garte claiming that Harry has shown suicidal behavior since his arrival.

@@TheSchokodragon Poor Kim! He's not a psychiatrist but he tries his best. T_T He's said things before like all cops eventually burn out. I'm sure he's seen suicidal behavior before. Both from cops and from civilians he's had to try and talk down. I can't think off of the top of my head the suicidal person we may or may not prevent. Oh ok, thanks! I thought there was a clip of a newspaper but apparently I didn't want to record it. That scene puts my head in dark places so I probably didn't want that recorded.

@@suicune2001 The person I am referring to is (lategame spoilers) Ruby! She's in a state of panic when you confront her (and destroy her pale emmitter) and if Harry doesn't talk her out of it (Rhetoric check iirc?), she shoots herself right then and there. Our cop bros are shocked (and so was I, goddamnit) but Kim quickly makes sure that Harry doesn't spiral into another panic attack.

Oh my god I was so lucky to have passed that check. I didn’t know how bad it could get.

Oh my god. I didn't even realize this. In hindsight it was so obvious but I didn't even realize. Then again I didn't get this far into this conversation...backed out after the funny "haha Kim isn't human". I'm horrified.

I mean it happens. I remember talking to Morell the Cryptozoologist and the only dialogue option that I had was "You have to return to your Wöman" or something followed up by mysogynistic rambling. I am not sure how the fuck I got Harry to that a point of no return but I didn't have any other choice. I think it started when I failed the Empathy check with Sylvie, but pushed the thought far enough that, when I tried to back off, Empathy said "too late" (you can back off if you don't push the thought further), which forced me to tell Garte the "truth" about men of wö.

Man who knew this game was so good, I bought it for whatever reason on Steam years ago but only got to the annoying British kid after like 3 hours of messing around before leaving because I did not like him and after watching some videos I think I should probably finish it up.

Absolutely! No joke, this has become one of my favorite games of all time.

Man, i didn't made this choises and it still hurts as it was me who said all of this

The thing is he still calls you detective and not officer which means he’s not angry with you because as mentioned through a check earlier in the game he calls you officer when he’s angry and detective when he’s not. This implies that he’s not angry with you but instead overwhelmed with sheer disappointment when you call him a monkey fucker because all this time he’s been looking past Harry’s numerous flaws and has been trying to drive him towards making the right choices and always being there when Harry needs him only to be called a monkey fucker. He’s even able to forgive you enough to redeem your relationship with him if you apologise but if you double down on being an asshole it only shows that you don’t want to improve and all the help he’s been trying to give Harry was for nothing.
