the best part of measurehead is that you can get him to admit he was born and raised in revachol and has never seen his ancestral homeland or his "superior" people, the semenese. he openly admits he learned all of this race-based nonsense from radio shows.

Measurehead is a non-cuck non-coward version of Sam Harris, who also hit the gym as opposed to sitting on his ass self-importantly and calling it "transcendental meditation". At lkeast MH says it with his chests loud and proud, meanwhile Sam peddles phrenoplogy grade racist pseudoscience at every step, and yet has Chernobyl grade self-pitying meltdowns whenever someone calls him a racist and especially when people effectively mock him for it (Eynah of Polite Conversations is doing it flawlessly). Also, radio shows beat a pseudoscientific book written by an economy major who wouldn't pass MIT statistics 101 if his life depended on it.

@@jessicalindo7977 The kicker is that half the dialogue options don't matter because, for a solid chunk of the intro, he literally isn't even listening to a word you say.
There is a novel called Sacred and Terrible Air that comes before Disco Elysium, same planet different timeperiod. It isnt in English yet though.

From what I recall, there is a reason that the founder of ZA/UM became known for their game and not for his novel.
When I first met him in game I couldn't stop laughing at how cartoonishly fascist he is
@jazzy4830

Not necessarily a fascist by what he says alone, while fascism often relies on provoking racial tensions to gain widespread support and also has historically found itself in opposition to communism, Measurehead has very little to say about his actual idealised political structure like many theorists. Though he would probably support a fascist movement if it subscribed to his specific racial views.

Measurehead is legit one of the best lolcow architypes on the internet. Incredibly racist and purposefully pretentious but the end of the day the core of his ideology is literally nothing but vibes.

Really? For me, the journey was one of hope (small spoilers ahead). The whole story was about finding yourself after you, the main character, hit rock bottom. In that process, you learn about the town and its people, which serve to act as a metaphor for your own journey. Along the way, on side quests you find people trying to make the world and this town better in the little ways they think they can and you even help them (like the church quest, the Cryptozoologist, and more, those are just the one I remember the most). Then by the end it's like you've changed, you've grown as a person and managed to solve the murder (and if you did the side quests those become relevant). So while none of the emotions we good per se, I felt that it was a start to progress. I felt that by the end of the game I left a positive impact on the town and the town on my character aswell.

@@hi__im_zack4890 Well, if I am to be fair and give credit where credit is due, I haven't finished the game yet. That said, for starters, a lot of the gameplay dynamic reminds me of a difficult time I had in my life, the whole questioning your own senses and mind to get a grip of reality, I felt that in the flesh and the portrait in the game was nearly flawlessly done, too close of reality for comfort. That said, I don't have anything bad to say about the game, it throws some hard pills to swallow. That dialogue tree with Measurehead along with the soundtrack felt so exhausting but also, so very real, even the women surrounding and agreeing with everything he said. The game clearly tried to make a point and delivered it perfectly. I still remember the dialogue tree that made me stop because it felt so real (*spoilers:* It was the one you get after managing to open the hidden compartment on Harry's clipboard.), even after passing like 3 different skill checks previously. "You tried to hold onto something, anything, but there was nothing left to hold onto." I don't remember a game making me feel like a piledriver hit me so hard before. It's a beautiful game but, I really can't recommend it to anyone I know is going through some tough times.

@@lisarox4221 I know what you mean, it's definitely a rough game. And tbh it never stops being a rough game, but there are little bits of light throughout that make it all worth it, in a dark sort of way. Sorry to spoil the ending for you a little, though.

My favorite part about measure head is that he’s a German guy who thinks he’s a Japanese guy and that he is superior on those grounds.

If Kanye never watched 29 Jump Street he might have ended up here. He did mention Al Gul on Alex Jones.

The backgrounds on every character represent some aspect of their personality and the messier they are, the more deranged the character is. Idiot Doom Spiral's reality is so twisted from the constant drinking he does that even his face is represented with shiny colors and it looks like its melting. Every Union-related character has a proper red portrait with a white rectangle/square, but Evrat's is inverted and melted down, so on. Measurehead is beyond all reason and sanity, so its only fair that his portrait is barely legible and only a crude resemblance of his in-game model.
Disco Elysium is one of the games of all time, the characters are there, the plot is written, and the world exists, it is truly a game.

This feels like it was made for me. Game talk and Vaush at the same time.
One of my favourite things is that he's clearly a representation of the thing real-life white supremacists are endlessly afraid of: A 7-foot black gigachad who's fucking a harem of subservient white women while talking about how the era of the white man is over, but he's also a stand-in for those exact same white supremacists. Horse shoe theory confirmed true, I guess? Also, the line about Semenese men not being able to maintain an erection in the face of the potato stench of the Kojko woman never fails to make me guffaw. It's so good.
At 20:15 you get a free “Uuugh” during the final end frame that was left in. Enjoy it. Treasure it.
