Started with a grate riff , and ended with a rap?
While I was listening to the song, I was twenty years old, and when the song ended, I suddenly remembered that I was already living in my seventh decade.

Don't worry. You guys are still the dumb, irresponsible kids we all were. We forget because the whole 'responsible adult' thing takes up so much time that we forget. Since you're in your 70's and your responsibilities are done, I suggest you dig out your old clothes from that era and start raising hell again. The way I see it, when you get to retirement age, you have the right to go back to being an irresponsible nuisance and your kids will be the ones who are 'lame' and 'uncool'.😈

This is what a real live show is supposed to be. Not even caring to play it like on the record, just like jamming out and having fun. At least thats what this seemed like to me.

One of the most recognised intros ever!! Love it 🎉
In my opinion, on every album made with Dire Straits and as a solo artist, Mark Knopfler takes the listener on an emotional journey, full of wit, aggression and also melancholy. Many times there is a great deal of reflection, Mark being a percipient observer and interpretor of whatever is going on. For me, the music and lyrics are taking hold through recognition in the listener. It is arguably Knopfler’s greatest skill, and whilst many rightfully acknowledge and focus on his brilliant technical ability as a musician, his writing and lyricism sometimes get ignored, which is a great shame, since Mark Knopfler is a fantastic and conscientious storyteller, deserving every music prize there is out there ❤✍️ 🎸 🎶 // Carin in Sweden
Not only one of the greatsst songs ever, but one of the most exciting, anticipation-building intros of all time! It’s such a looooooong, expertly crafted build, with the intermittent drum fills slowly coming to life like this huge, magnificent machine is about to awaken after lying asleep for 1,000 years… and then Mark’s half-cocked wah riff with its glorious harmonics. OMG we have finally arrived at the gates of heaven, and guess what? It’s all about microwaves and fridges over there 😂

I love playing guitar to Sultans Of Swing! 👍
I loved this when I was 10(?) about, and I always loved seeing and hearing them- extremely talented and in sync- with Mark doing the most fun riffs at the best time(timing). So- I was lit up inside when I watched Sultans of Swing performed live by them(on my tablet- so back in the 80's it recorded). Anyways, I really love, and always have, this Band- their own unique sound and style musically. Love this Band, the memories associated, Great music 🗣️🎶❤️🔥
Onde no presente ou no futuro teremos melodias, harmônicas e timbres assim???? Meu Deus, me jogue novamente para 70, 80s

I know that, by garbage, you're referring to a lot of the pop and rap of my generation that is truly horrid. The songs with nothing real to say, with wholly foul language, basic and uninspired chord progressions, void of all artistic ability... just remember that if you dig deep enough in modern music, and you inch away from the mainstream stuff, you can fine some truly great music. The Longest Johns, for example, write and cover sea-shanties. Wellerman is their most famous song. The lyrics tell the very sad story of whaling, and how brutal it was. Fire and Flame from their album Cures What Ails Ya immortalizes the tragedy of the explosion of the Mont Blanc in Nova Scotia in 1917. Other songs of theirs are also really good, having good messages and interesting, skillful instrumentation. One of Phillip Phillips' albums, The World from the Side of the Moon, has some really good themes about protection, love, and community, with some excellent guitar work. Some amazing orchestral stuff I can offer includes Steven Bryant's Automatic Earth, Solace, and Ecstatic Waters, or Jim Stephenson's Symphony no. 2. Sabaton has excellent historical music, about WWI, WWII, and other conflicts throughout history like the Peloponnesian Wars or the 300. There are also some really amazing love songs like I Hear a Symphony by Cody Fry and Marry Me by Train. There's this one witty, albeit simple rap song called Bassthoven, which is a play on Beethoven and involves a lot of really well-done references to Beethoven. Video games have really good themes, like Sogno di Volare from Civ 6. I could keep going but I'm sure you get the point. Mainstream music is horrible, sure, but there are some amazing songs in this time, admittedly very little of which is made by people my age, but still, there is excellent music to be found as there are excellent books and poetry to be found as there are good movies to be found in this day and age.
