Because Hendrix was the first player who try enormously things. He was very innovative with instrument and work in studio. But agree that Knopfler is the best of melody and feeling !! 💪💯😍👌

That's what I'm asking myself when I get aware of another ranking of the best guitarrists ever, always with the unsurprising Hendrix at number one and Knopfler in the 40th place somewhere, sometimes even behind very good, but not exceptional guitarrists like Slash and other shredders. Knopfler is simply 3 leagues above and should be at least in the top 5 in my humble opinion! At least!

Listening to this song is like going back to your childhood home.

Mark has God given talent ,which is a Blessing Given to Him from God Almighty. No one I know can play like this .Truly is an amazing Gift . I am 65 now ,have been hearing this song from my age at 28 .Lovely and touching song .God Bless

So melodic, so passionate, and it is played live. If it was a studio a version I could understand the quality, over dubs, but live? One special night in 1993, Mark Knopfler outshined all the stars in the sky with this masterpiece

There are musicians and there is Mark Knopfler, how good is this, just humble man, with a magical ability to write great songs and transpose them into a guitar format. On the 8th day God created MK to deliver man kind from shitty music. There are great guitarist through out history, but there is no-one can finger pick our heartfelt emotions like this bloke. If you don't like this and are not touched by it, you need to get your hearing checked or you may be deceased > god bless MK and DS

I had the pleasure of seeing this group in Perth, Western Australia during the hight of their fame. They blew me away with the sound of playing live. They didn't disappoint as they sounded just the same as their recorded music. One of the great concerts of those years.

And that good people, is the definition of perfect.

When companies like Fender and Gibson make their guitars 🎸, I don’t think they could ever imagine the magic that Mark would produce with them.

Guitar instrumentals don't get any better than this, MK is a true master of his craft with beyond mortal skill. Only he could cram so many shades of human emotion into a few minutes of music. This is the type of timeless music only a truly dedicated artist could produce. Who else gets goosepimples when they listen to this?

Probably the greatest live guitarist of our time, how can one of rock's great guitar players blow the audience away with an instrumental, heart breaker, I don't have an answer. I'll die wondering but I'll die in peace, you only have to listen to the audience responce, MK could walk on water

It's not a Strat, is a Schecter Dream Machne....

Schecter Strat will suffice. So close to a Strat that Schecter could never sell the guitar without getting sued. There is a Dream Machine Schecter sold more recently but it was altered for obvious reasons. Basically Mark asked Schecter to build him a Stratocaster that would be reinforced to be tougher on the road.

It's a busy day, it's a busy life. I am always stressed, I always have something to do, there's always that deadline that you need to meet. It sometime feels as if there is no chance of improvement in this life, as if things are meant to remain this bad forever. I sometimes feel depressed and demotivated, and out of control; but then I listen to this tone, so pure and angelic. I swear, it is as if god is speaking to me, saying "hey, it's going to be alright". Mark Knopfler, through his music, through his delicate vibratos, makes me cry, and gives me hope. And yes, Sultans of Swings, Brothers in Arms, Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love; these songs are way more popular than Local Hero. Nevertheless, this song, particularly this version, kind of sums up Knopfler in five minutes. I can go on and on talking about how impossible it is, and how fantasy like that tone sounds. It's really something... Thank you Knopfler

This is probably the best lineup of Dire Straits members they ever had. This tour's version of this song, Money for Nothing, Brothers in Arms etc. Were the best renditions in my opinion

Every time I watch this I am blown away by the dexterity of the left hand on the fretboard and the three fingers picking those strings, a far king genious and a guitar legend. modern musicians schools is now in, this is how you play REAL music from a real song. I'll guarantee a pass rate of less than 5%, why, because most current day so called musicians have no inate talent, they are driven by music moguls hunting the almighty dollar and share prices
