We played this in my step fathers funeral. Iam 35 and he was my step father for 30 years. Dire Straits was one of his favorite bands. We bonded over shared love for music. He is the one that got me into Queen and Dire Straits. And he gave me the Brothers in Arms LP some years ago. I have it displayed on my wall.

I was going home in Norway after being hit very badly in the mountains of the Nordfjord by the one skistick of one of my marines and prayed my men to let me go Home to my wife in Heaven. But my Marines did what they had to do. They saved my life because Marines never leave a brother-in-arms behind. My generals did!

I've just added this to a dedication to 75 coal miners who were killed in Australia's worst mining disaster and that record still stands sadly today, they were truly Brothers in Arms at that fateful moment and this song just gives it so much empathy and compassion for an event almost 100 years ago - Mt Mulligan Mining Disaster "LEST WE FORGET"

These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Someday you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn to be Brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed your suffering As the battle raged high And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell and The moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms

The 80s were nice in many ways. But man I do not miss the nuclear hysteria stuff. There's a reason everyone was depressed in these videos. One of my least favorite things as a kid were the tests of the air raid sirens. You were supposed to react to them and seek out the nearest air raid shelter, but by the 80s hardly anyone did anymore. It still freaked me out.

@RSTETZY - That was a crazy time in the U.S. People didn't know to express thanks to our soldiers. I remember how young and silly I was. We were anti-war, so we all ignored everything and everyone connected with that war. Many people didn't understand the emotions of the returning soldiers. We just didn't have the maturity to try to understand, and to be thankful. Looking back, I regret this so much. You should be thanked, so thank you, from the bottom of my heart. All the best to you.

Though I love this live version in its entirety, the highlight for me was the lap steel guitar part. It gave it a country music feel.

Spero che qualcuno colga l'essenza di questa musica e di questo uomo, con la schiena dritta e con la grandissima capacità di essere musicista senza vendervi mai. GRANDE Mark, e grande a la Natura capace di regalare voci come questa.
