    I keep saying it but you really do make excellent videos Paul. They are very relaxing too...... It's such a shame that everything is so restricted these days and that's one of the joys of your videos; the freedom. I was staggered to hear of the Ohio restrictions.... I thought the UK was bad. I'll bet there is no charge for using the slipways in your area. Here it can cost £20 or so to launch and recover unless you are launching at your own club. Crazy world.

    I’m interested in, if / how you solve the heeling over, taking on water problem. Maybe increasing ballast, maybe increasing the weight of your center board, maybe releasing the jib or main sheet to dump the gusting wind, maybe moving to the boat’s high side, maybe some combination? Heh, heh, taking on water is no joke. Thanks for sharing your adventure…from east Tennessee.

    The photo section looks like a feature that will run for quite a while, I like it. What you were saying about the no sleeping on board and no trailers overnight seems to be part of the growing trend of negativity councils have towards any enjoyment we have. I have been looking on Google maps for places to put in around the Kent coast and it is not easy to find anywhere. I think it may be telling that the DCA has no presence around here too. Crewing The Dovekin sounds like a fantastic experience, congrats on that. The season is definitely changing to autumn over here now, still, we can enjoy your spring and summer.

    I went on the Duyfken when she was in Perth. They were looking for crew as night watchmen and sleep on the boat overnight while berthed. I later spent a week on the Leeuwin 180ft Barquentine and later offered a job as a Boatswains mate ( looking after a dozen teenager's chipping and painting for 3 months in Dampier WA volunteer work)

    Hi Larry, thank you, it's a Torqueedo 801 made in Germany. This model is over 12 years old and there is now a newer model Torqueedo 2000. They have a Lithium battery or you can run them off standard deep cycle Lead acid batteries. I have 2 x12 volt wheelchair batteries under the bunks. There are quite expensive though, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

  • @SailingKateLouise

    @SailingKateLouise

    Hi Michael, apart from the traditional look which suits the design, having a lugsail yawl gives you 3 sail options before reefing. Although the downside is she doesn't point as well, but still fun to sail and I'm not racing. Adding a boom would actually improve the performance of the main but I do have a whisker pole which acts as a temporary boom for sailing downwind. I just don't use it very much. Cheers Paul

    What this, Ohio in the "land of the free" you can't sleep aboard your vessel wherever you like, only in places dictated to you by the rulers? I wish we saw the bit where you got a gust a took on some water, those bits of excitement when it happens to others is always fun to see

    Weird about Ohio. I wonder if it has more to do with "fighting homelessness" than boating. I know in CA and FL and TX we had problems with people living on basically derelict boats. Lots of people also use trailed boats as RV's and some of those end up immobile and making a mess. There's been a big push to keep people from being able to do that a lot of places.

  • @SailingKateLouise

    Thanks for the info Thomas, I didn't think about the homeless situation in the States, I just thought it was a nanny state. A sailor from Ohio told me about it and the fines are high and also for fishing without a licence. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    @@SailingKateLouise Not quite that bad: Sleeping on Watercraft Prohibited (OAC 1501:47-3-21) No boat operator shall sleep at night aboard a vessel adrift, at anchor, docked, moored, tied-up or beached on Ohio State Park waters except in designated locations. Some parks have designated boat camping areas. Inquire about locations at the specific park office. Go online to ohiodnr.gov/boating to find out more

    Those rules about no camping are horrible. I think it's hyper capitalism. They don't want people camping for free. They want to force people to pay a business in order to sleep away from home. They might also fear houseboats, and people living that way full time.
