This along with Emperor's "In The Nightslide Eclipse", Bathory's "Under The Sign of the Black Mark" and Darkthrone's "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" were my gateway albums into Black Metal in the late 90s as a 15 year old. Nothing in music will ever recreate the excitement of discovering Black Metal.

*_I have no idea to this day what these talented Norwegians are singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are better left unsaid. I'd like to think they are singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, these voices, guitars and synths soar higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It is as if some beautiful bird had flapped into your drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, you feel free._*

I bought this on a whim nearly 20 years ago, I knew who DB was but I only knew the "newish" stuff -- not only did I think this was "For all Cid", I also didn't know it was their old stuff until after I got it.

The beauty within this album is so surreal. Unlike any other album they have. Most of the others kind of flow together periodically... Example, you can tell eonian was made after abrahadabra just by listening to them.... but this one really stands out alone.the most rock n roll influenced imo
