My Pantera Playlist! • Pantera
In this Stealing From Legends episode, we will take a look at one of the signature soloing techniques that the great Dimebag Darrell used in his legendary soloing style.
The concept we will be talking about in this lesson is his incredible use of symmetrical guitar licks.
As I mention in the video, Dimebag probably got his inspiration for this by learning the music of one of his main idols, Eddie Van Halen. However, Dimebag took the symmetrical lick concept to such a high level and made it such an integral part of his soloing style, that it would be hard not to use him as our main source of inspiration when learning how to apply this concept to our own playing.
It is a very easy concept to understand and will instantly give your solos an unpredictable yet musically exciting edge.
In this lesson, I will show you step-by-step different ways you can apply this very cool musical idea to you own playing. #dimebagdarrell #pantera #guitarcovers
Have fun! Carl...

Dime was so beyond talented. The dude could play like a pro after only playing for a short time without lessons. I like Van Halen but I'm even more grateful for Eddie Van Halen because he made Dimebag Darrell pick up that guitar. Dimes my guitar god. I love listening to the Pantera Brothers jam Vinnie with the double bass and Dimes strings melting gives me the chills man.

@@brianlouks4875 Brian, you and me both buddy. He was an amazing musician, and in my opinion, heavy metal started dying that day god embraced Dime into the golden gates of heaven. Now at the ripe age of 47 and looking back, missing those ozzfest, arena days of seeing bands live. Picking up that old Washburn that I bought back in 92' give me comfort and makes me feel grateful, honored, and humbled that I was there and apart of those shows as a fan. Metal might have died in the eyes of the music scene in today's world, but it will always be alive and kicking in my heart and soul. R.I.P Dime & V.P. Gods taken to soon.

Carl you make sense of what is undoubtably insane finger work when it comes to Darrels playing style. Being a huge fan of both you and Dime, you make it easy to understand and learn some of this incredible music. Thank you for re-inspiring my love of the guitar. I just started playing again after long breaks and loosing interest because of the learning curve. But you've made it so easy to pick up a few new songs and jam out with the bands we love and grew up with. I play on a 92' Washburn kc20v that I bought new, and now a new Jackson dinky. Thank you for the lessons that are amazing. Thank you

As someone in a phrasing rut, this was one of the most useful lessons I've seen in a while. I knew symmetrical shapes, but when you talked about how to set it up and implement, that is a very useful perspective that not many people discussed. I see you haven't done one of these in a while, and that is probably a strategic decision on your part, but I enjoyed this thoroughly, and feel others would support more of this type of content. Cheers! 🍺

Thanks for posting this. This is something that's troubled me about learning Dimebag solos for years. I studied classical guitar from my first 10 years and it really ingrained this theoretical approach. I couldn't figure out what the deal was from Cowboys from Hell then I looked at some tabs and I'm like that can't be right that's not a scale. Ding ding ding not a scale but not a mistake either. Dime was like a duck in water.
