Dimebag Darrell CFH Collection Amplitube 4 first Impressions!

Hey all! I've been wanting to make a video on this Plugin for quite some time but I was originally going to wait until I have my Dean From Hell back up a shredding, however I saw it on sale recently during the lockdown and couldn't resist!
Now I actually filmed this video 3 times in total, but ran into some problems the first 2 times and had to scrap them :( so if I seem a bit fatigued then that would be why!
Hope you enjoy this chilled quick jam-sesh testing this beast! Grady and IK did a fantastic job in my opinion! Let me know what you think in the comments!

    Thanks! I'm glad you pointed that out. My whole channel started out as me playing all my favourite songs by certain bands, and when I noticed I had a loyal fanbase building who enjoyed that, I've tried to keep it going ever since, trying not to "sell out" by covering JUST the popular songs to get views or whatever.

    I have the plugin too, it is great! I hope they'll update it with presets based on others Pantera's albums too, but you can still play everything without tweaking too much things. I'd like them to do a selection on each albums, Walk, this love, Hollow, becoming, I'm broken, hard lines Sunken Cheeks, planet caravan, 10's, the undergrounnd in America, Drag the Water, Revolution is my name, floods, It makes them disappear, Hellbound... there is great effect on some of these song, and i think it is a good representation on overall dimebag Tones, instead to do all songs album per album, but maybe it is more interesting for them to sell it like that

    Tons of people say they want Zakk Wylde to do a Pantera reunion. Stupidity. While Zakk is great at what he does he cannot do Dime justice. I’d much rather hear someone like this guy do it. Who cares if he’s not famous, he knows the style

  • @succulentstan

    @succulentstan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hes got the style, but not the emotion. There shouldnt be a PanterA reunion unless if we can find people who have the same or close to the same emotion as Dime and Vinnie. Itll be hard but I think we should let PanterA go and let it leave its imprint on the world. Its nowhere near a reunion, it just needs be Phil, Rex, Zakk, and maybe Chris Adler or Joey Jordison jamming PanterA songs with a different name.

  • @DomicidalCovers

    @DomicidalCovers

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's a really awesome thing to say, and thank you, but in reality I haven't got nearly the amount of ability Dime had, in more ways than one too! Anyway we couldn't do it now anyway with Vinnie being gone too. Plus Phil doesn't sound anywhere near as powerful as he used to, he's lost a lot of his voice, Pantera were just so unique.

  • @DomicidalCovers

    @DomicidalCovers

    3 жыл бұрын

    I definitely agree with you that there just shouldn't be any kind of Pantera "reunion", for reasons stated above, and also because of Vinnie being gone, Pantera only works with the original 4 dudes, they were all unique, which made the band as a whole much more important and unique too, also everything worked for the era they were thriving in too. I always find it interesting when people talk about emotion and feeling, it's a VERY complex thing to judge since everyone expresses emotion in different ways, so that being said I don't think anyone has the "emotion" Dime had for many reasons, 1 obvious one being that he wrote the music, and no one can be him! Also consider he was drunk at literally every show too, haha. In all honesty though, I could never do anything like that because in reality I'm too green so I wouldn't even be accepted, but regardless, try not to judge musicians by videos on KZread, because being on stage is a completely different game than being sat at home in front of a camera, I wish you knew the emotion that goes through my body when I play Pantera though, it actually plays a huge part in helping me replicate the style! When my band eventually have our first gig, I can't wait to show as much emotion and energy as I possibly can on that stage though haha :)

    I remember watching your covers as a kid, and it's really nice seeing your new videos. I've been wondering why don't you make them more often? I'm glad that after all these years since your first video you live and breathe pantera, it just gets under your skin and never stops, and that's the same with me lol I have early Korean ML79, and I've tried several Washburn's, but none of the USA D3.. It seams to me that both of your guitars are good, but that the Washburn is better. Imo Dean has some serios quality droputs throughout the last few years, and Washburn was the top notch while Dimebag had their name on them, even the cheaper import ones.

    Ha yeah I've still been searching for that perfect Dime tone even after all these years, and it's not going to stop! Thanks! Yeah the washburn is something else. I prefer unfinished necks, and the washburn is heavily lacquered, but it still plays surprisingly nice, I think the V neck helps with that though.

Ah that's fair enough, I don't know how he teaches, but as someone who has done the same, I just know he's put the work in to dissecting Dime's style. Once I have a bigger place and better studio setup, I've been thinking for a while about doing videos on how I learned certain things, so they won't be direct "lessons" as such, but just so people can choose whether or not they want to adopt the same techniques to help them, I might even do something on how I learn other people's styles of playing... The only problem there is I don't even know how I do it, I just do it XD

    So fucking nice man, how do you compare the washburn to the dean in term of neck positioning and thickness?? i have both of them ( the dean is just recently bought) and i found it to be very different, not the same angle (body/neck) and its way more thick... floyd rose is also notched in the body vs top mounted on the wasburn??

  • @DomicidalCovers

    @DomicidalCovers

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey, sorry for the beyond-late reply, Just going through comments now. Which year and model Dean do you have? Reason I ask is because a lot of them have different necks, even the Dime sigs don't all have the same neck profiles, it's quite strange really. The Washburn is the first V neck that I've owned, and it's probably the same thickness in the middle, but because of the V it makes it feel thinner and faster in my opinion. I've sanded back the finish on my Dean in this vid so it's actually a good 1mm thinner I'd say, but it's a C neck as it's an '06 Korean-made reissue ML, so not a Dime sig. Both very different guitars, and yeah also the body on the Washburn is thinner. I also have a Chinese-made DFH and that actually feels more like the washburn(same body thickness, and same profile neck). The bridge on my Washburn isn't top-mounted though, is yours??

I agree with your comment its about all the same i think! I have a washburn 333db that i bought new in 2002 and the floyd is top mounted. i think the usa washburn like funky monkey and boogie street are not. the real washburn usa must be.

    Yeah it is kind of in the frown though, just the highest slider is pushed up further for most of them. To be honest, I never expected them to have the same exact settings, because they would have to be ridiculously accurate to make each model sound like the real thing, so they probably had to tweak things to get it to sound as legit as possible. I'm a PC user, I have never purchased anything from Apple, and probably never will :)

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ah nice, this wasn't the video I was referring to though! It was another vid on my actual rig. The doubler was to make his sound "thicker", to do it you'd need more than 1 amp so you can run the doubler in the effects loop of one amp, then run the other amp dry, that way the amp with the doubler hooked up would add a very short (10ms maybe?) Delay behind the dry amp, that creates the thicker sound, especially for live. Apparently a few people used that trick in the 80's.

    I honestly haven't really played with it since I did this video, so I couldn't answer that, but playing around with the EQ in the post-processing section wluld probably get you the closest. Obviously the C200 was different than the RG100ES, but I still think the main part of the album tones for most of their albums came from the post eq and also mastering, hence why FBD sounded different to Vulgar even though they used the same amp. Sorry I can't be much help though.

    I don't think it's a dumb question at all. I literally haven't used the plugin since I made this vid 🤣 but if I remember correctly then I think you have to go into the cfh collection tab or something, because I remember being unfamiliar with Amplitube, and thought that all the presets would be layed out for me, but I think there is a list of different collections and they should be in the CFH collection page. I hope I'm right haha.

    Haha I didn't know what tone was where on the video but I could guess which one you meant hsha. If it were a tone that I would play casually then I actually agree. This "raw" tone is very similar to the CFH demo tracks, I prefer that tone over the album tone, it's way more aggressive with some of the mids still in there. I highly recommend checking out those demos if you like that tone. Also thanks very much for the compliment on my playing! 😁

    Both guitars were in a standard tuning, yes, but I'm not sure if I tuned to the actual studio tunings or not. I probably did, as my Dime guitars pretty much live in Pantera tunings, and if so then I think he tuned a quarter step down from standard E and D, I never really use a tuner though, I always tune by ear, and it's been a while since playing any Pantera.

    Yeah it's a VERY processed tone, it does sound good, but it was tricky for me to get it to sit right in a mix when obviously the original would have been mixed with the other instruments in mind too, I struggled to get the guitars to sound a part of the whole thing, they just always kind of felt like they'd just been dropped in there, if that makes sense? I'll always prefer the sound of a real amp anyhoo. Thanks for watching.
