Dilogun: two double Odu Ifa!
Underneath every cast with Sixteen Cowries AKA Dilogun AKA Owo Merindinlogun the diviner can read two double Odu Ifa. Usually only the "mouths up" are simply counted to arrive at one of the 17 possible patterns that can be cast with 16 cowries, but that is limiting yourself too much. Again: the proficient Dilogun diviner also reads two double Odu Ifa in every singe cast of his.her cowries. So what you see is in fact similar to two Opele's. In this example the two double Odu Ifa are Oyeku-Owonrin (right) and Owonrin-Irete (left). This seems to be a very "heretical" approach, but I can't help that. It's always been there in plain sight... often seen, but hardly ever noticed. So NOW you notice (wide and wicked grin)! Be well! Jaap Verduijn.

It's interesting to see, by the way, that this "cast" consists of 7 mouths up, AKA Odi. I put "cast" between quotation marks, because no actual divination was involved, I just threw the cowries without any invocation or so. This means, among other things, that the result follows the laws of probability ONLY... no spiritual influence being involved. When only probability is involved, binomial distribution shows us which patterns are most likely to appear... 7, 8 and 9 being the absolute champions. Here come the binomial coefficients of the 17 patterns that are possible with 16 cowries. I leave out the names because these tend to be different in the various branches of the religion... I'll just give the number of "mouths up" and then the binomial coefficient AKA the likelihood of that particular Odu Merindinlogun to appear.

Weird isn't it, to realize that for example Ejiogbe (8 up) has some 23 times more chance of appearing than for example Ogunda (3 up), and that Ogunda in turn has 35 times as much chance to fall as for example Okanran (1 up)! Well then... if you go to a diviner with whom the numbers 7, 8 and 9 appear quite frequently, there seems to be a fair chance that his/her results do not reflect much influence of ashé, but mainly of the laws of chance and probability.

That odu is odi...This isn't Ifa this is Diloggun divining for babalochas only.
Rest easy, Jaap…
Ufff..... I love it. How the hell didI not see that. I do it in obi all day yet never saw it in shell. Haha. Thanks!
Jaap did you prepare the dilogun to look that way? I have done countless readings and the dilogun fall in many different ways, also you are triying to mix water with vinegar...don't work that way. BTW when you say usually in your coment, readings are presice and acurate, there is no ifs or buts, remember theses are peoples lives and existence you are dealing with. Alafia
To Japp, not sure what you are doing but , you are mixing apples and oranges. the shells has not nothing to do with the elekule ifa . I see your point about thinking out the box but the shells and ifa is two different entities. If you wanna know, it goes back to the story of yemaya and orula. I hate youtube because it gives any dummy to misinterpret the orisa religion and give false information. When I was coming up as a iyabo, santero and then babalawo this was all taboo to do this. Iboru
No, it's Oyeku-Owonrin on the right, and Owonrin-Irete on the left. You're thinking INSIDE the box, try thinking OUTSIDE it!
it was a one throw system...but it was foundthat the problem could be identified, but not the solution..so a second throw was developed called the tonti system
1) Non of the Yoruba Divination Systems are influenced by probabilities. 2) In Irete Kutan is very well explained the hierarchy of divination systems, being Ifá superior to Diloggún. "LOS MEYIS DE IFA ENSEÑARON A LOS 16 CAWRIES A HABLAR A LOS ORISHAS." The Meyis (IFÁ) taught the 16 Cawries how to talk to the Orishas. 3) Oshá-Ifá is not a new-age kind of thing that you just change it by "thinking outside of the box".
One never mixes the two.EVER!!!
Ahh i see...got you ;) So Oyeku-Owonrin in Diloggun what would it be?
Wow, this is a classic vid. Ahead of your time, Jaap...
you only use 12 for dilogun
Odi
actually it's odi...there is not outside the box on technique...there is outside the box on the interpretation on the odu...diloggun represents the tonti system not the ifa system....if this is how you consult..god help your clients
alafia.. its kongo real
stop making stuff up. Start studing.
bla bla bla bla bla bla
