*@Raider2Pac* Not everybody has the motor/ability necessary and the luxury of not having to carry as much of an offensive load to be able to put in as much visible effort on defense ("visible effort" such as picking up his man further down the court and pressing up on him more in the half court). Players still care just as much about defense as they always have, it's still half of the game like it's always been.
@xxfrank12

Defense is impossible in the NBA today, every little thing is a foul. Can't blame players for not wanting to play defense.
@justsayin669
7 ай бұрын
@@xxfrank12 That's not true at all, players are still allowed to play just as much defense as they've been allowed to since the 80s with the exception of the transition take foul rule that was just added last year in 2022-23. The amount of foul calls in recent years is at an all-time low. Today's leaguewide style of team offense is just harder to defend than any other era in NBA history due to the extra 3pt attempts and the extra spacing that comes along with it as well as the extra point that comes along with a made 3pt shot.

That ain't 90s vibe... Dillon would have gotten slammed to the floor the moment he tried to take to the air in the 90s, and put on the line for 2 shots. He wouldn't have done a darn thing easy because the paint was guarded by real Centers and Power Forwards strong as Oxes & physical to the core. Look at the play again... today's game you gotta give him the basket or risk getting a Flagrant 1 or worse Flagrant 2 and kicked out of the game. Brooks was just showing boating (and in a silly way to add) afterwards which is what caught all of the attention.
@justsayin669
7 ай бұрын
@@rcdenson1 He's obviously only referring to what Brooks did after he made the shot... Besides, the flagrant foul rule/penalty is the same now as it has been since it was implemented in 1991 so if they risk getting a flagrant 1 or a flagrant 2 and ejection now then it was the same in the 90s. You are GREATLY exaggerating the physicality of the 90s as so many people do. It's actually unlikely that he would have been fouled hard mid air on this same play in the 90s. Don't you people who take this stance about the 90s supposedly being superior basketball also claim that there were a ton of contested poster dunks in the 90s? If so, how can both be true? The paint is still guarded by real Cs and PFs. The game is just more spread out now due to the extra 3pt attempts which, along with the extra point that comes along with a made 3pt shot, makes today's leaguewide style of team offense the hardest to defend in NBA history. 90s players would still have just as much trouble defending in today's NBA as 2020s players have if not more trouble since the players back then weren't exactly tailored to defend today's style of team offense. They wouldn't be any better defensively. In other words the difference isn't less defense, it's smarter/more effective offense which players from ANY era would have trouble defending.
@rcdenson1

@@justsayin669 You just spent allot of time writing allot of rubbish and a totally inaccurate accounting of basketball in the 90s which "Was far more physical than today's NBA Game". Did you actually live through and actually see on a regular daily basis 90s basketball, because it certainly doesn't seem so. For us who played the game and followed the Pro's who succeeded to the top, we find that laughable. I was a 6'2" Guard that played in the 80s and 90s to include some years in Europe and I can tell you with certainly that when you got the step on defenders and got to the basket if there was anyone there expect contact and focus on finishing. It's only clean breakaways or no one at the basket that you got clean shots off with no contact. That's just the way the game was played then. I don't know what makes you think that you can rewrite history or change the words of what most all of the Pros that played the game during that era say themselves. I guess *The Jordan Rules" which essentially was to put you on the floor when you penetrated into the paint never existed? All of these physical players putting you on the floor over n over n over like Mahorn, Oakley, Barkley, Malone, Xman, Cartwright, Lambier... the list is endless of these great but very physical players of the 90s and none of them would back up your totally false accounting of NBA basketball in the 90s. Try to sell that story to Shaq, he'd laugh at you like you were crazy. We saw modest changes in the Foul Process in the early 90s but it would be more like the 2000s and the tail end of that era where we'd really see these much more aggressive penalties and levels of fouls start to enter into the game. More and more fights on the floor was taking place. Player & Fan negative interactions were starting to take place. The NBA then, cracked down, put in place tougher measures. Changed the game from the more physical grind it out lower scoring style of play that was most common in the league and more conducive of generating those unwanted physical confrontations. The results was a faster game, more scoring, far less physical fouls, and stiff penalties with a bite, that affected the player and the team. Go back to the 90s and Brooks would have been fouled, ended up on the floor hard, and it would have been a regular foul. If it was Mahorn, Oakley, Lambier, Bill Cartright, Karl Malone and any of those Real Physical players of the 90s... Dillon wouldn't have done a damn thing and surely wasn't getting in those guys'faces? He'd have gotten up, pulled up his elbow brace and went straight to the line to shoot his free throws. In fact he wouldn't even have this tough guy image like he has today. Not in that era! End of story! Today, it's a definite Flagr 1 and a potential 2. That's the bottom line.
