Today's video looks at how option cards have evolved in the Digimon card game. Previously, option cards have had two main roles, but now with delays these have branched off into something more, and ultimately I feel this is where Bandai is slowly guiding us towards item-esque cards.

Honestly the main thing I dislike of the evolution of option cards are the anime screenshots options, they just look so bad to me 😭

Unfortunately, that's just the way it be sometimes. Can you imagine if we got new arts for the D-Reaper stuff? Instead of predominantly anime shots?

So true. This and most Tamer cards being random renders of the characters you can find on google images. The fact over half of them are just the Adventure cast doesn't help.
I really want Equipment/Digi-Modify cards. Make them work like X-Antibody where you add them to the evolution cards with an inherited effect.

With equip option cards like the Three Musketeers, their design team is definitely expanding into more unknown territory that I hadn't previously considered.
I've been wanting more d reaper support and I've been thinking about this exact scenario for a while. I'd love something like this in the game.

It's interesting that we've seen so much Adventure and Adventure 2.. but really sporadic blips for Tamers - unless it's of course Takato and Guilmon XD
I think item cards would be pretty cool! I think generically id like if we had them function more like x-antibody or the ex6 legend-arms cards where you pay memory to tuck it under a digimon in order to get some kind of effect, but at the same time i don't think that feels particularly unique or flavorful haha.

Agreed! And we are starting to see a lot more type of equipments as well. I'm sure they could do a lot more in regard to tribal and archetypes but I'll save that for another video when I want to expand more on it ha ha.
Items/equipments as options are a cool idea. I can understand Bandai being hesitant about adding card types as more card types means less Deck slot space in what is already kinda tight with tamers and options having roughly 10 or less space for slots depending on the archetype. The only way they could make room for more card types would be if they reworked major areas like scraping Digitamas and have the Rookies/Lv3 be considered the 'new' Digitama and adding more space slots for the deck. (But that would be waaay to much effort like errating on plays to on hatch and with decks where the digitama is the whole gimmick be reworded)

Scrapping digitamas and having us start at 3's would also be interesting. It would revert us back to a style of Hyper Colosseum where we set our level 3 down first then everyone flips. I don't see Bandai pursuing this although with the most recent announcement of a 3 color secret option card, a dual color egg might be in the works that's a secret.
Hopes that this will happen - should be nice and it will bring it to the game more lore-flavor! Nice video as usual & greetings from México! 🤟

I've long advocated for a Digivice option series that would slot under tamers like X-Antibody does for Digimon and give them additional effects. Either alternative tamer effects or bonus effects when they trigger normally.

Digivices could have been honestly the training option cards. Helping you find your Digimon and providing a digivolution cost reduction.
From Master to Disciple and Offensive Training stack. Master to Disciple has that “next time one of your Digimon would” meaning you can stack to get a reduced code of three.

I considered these heavily! They'd be in a sense artificial Digimon like the D-Reapers it just became a matter of what do they do? What colors do they represent and what not.

@@oreox1000 I think moving forward, I'll combine some elements of What If with an essay researched topic. It seems to provide more of a basis and foundation for reasoning for design as well!
This would be a cool way to introduce both digi-eggs and digivices into the game too. Maybe digivices give you an anytime search for a digimon or something, and eggs let you recycle an armor card and digivolve into it for free?

That'd be the concept! Digivices searching for Digimon, delaying to maybe reduce the digivolution costs. Digi-Eggs (in regards to armor digivolution) for finding armor trait Digimon and then reducing the digivolution costs. The concept is endless.
The idea of an item catf I always thought would work more like an inheratible. That way the card can be removed through stripping or de-digivolve if the effect gets to strong. I always thought we'd get a Rika that would do this for Renamon and options (specifically plug ins). Though these could work similarly if the idea is they are one turn use. Example: Brave shield offers a once pur turn protection for a small body to keep a flood gate on the feild or to prevent deathx's all turns effect. I prefer this because to many top ends have amazing protection that causes the player in control to snowball, and think protection on smaller bodies (lvl3's and 4's) works better and helps non-meta decks more than just giving everyone a new toy.

Absolutely! Items are an interesting way to give Digimon additional effects as well. And although I could go into a whole serialization of it, I'm not a card designer and as I mentioned, I'm all about flavor XD

@@DIGI-PANDA I heard, hence the plug-in effect off a Rika to give Rena a pseudo equipment/item effect. It gives the Sakuyamon deck some juice, more identity, more ways to use plug in options, and of course more flavor. Allowing her to hold plug ins like the current 3M is shooting for makes for a more varried deck.
I like the HC stuff. Would love to see more exploration of older games and artwork from previous sets. The circuit board would be cool to see again.

I feel it is criminally unfair to not have Grani in the game, and it would be a great card if it worked like this. I don't even need it to be both a card to evolve and to protect, just one of those things would make it good enough for me

I initially conceptualized it more for protection but now I think it works better as a way to move Digimon from trash to hand. Alternatively it could've given an inheritable to delete stuff when attacking.

@@DIGI-PANDA it is really nice, if there was abything to complain about is the fact that is plays a Crimson Mode instead of evolving it, which is pretty bad for crimson cause it means no inheritables to help with the deletion, no blitz, no drawing and no swinging to sec if it is played in your turn
Grani makes me realize how much I want bandai to focus more on gallants mill aspect.

That would be Megidramon and Chaosgallantmon centric though. Bandai has made is pretty clear.

@@shadowjeric i don't recall either of those milling They get boosted from trash numbers due to Gallantmon deleting opponent's Digimon to inflate trash Well CM ACE was kinda designed with Megidramon in mind too.

@@shadowjeric can't disagree. I was just referring that Bandai has made it especially clear that they separate Gallantmon and Megidramon/Chaosgallantmon Gallantmon deletes or gains buffs if delete fails Megidramon mills and gains buffs from amount of cards in trash

It might also be dependent on which version you watched. The English dub was heartbreaking.

I never said I was brilliant at designing cards XD It's the thought and consideration of it ha ha. On one hand, I had to figure out a way to keep a body on board for you to redirect it to. On the other... well, that's always the problem

@@Vansjoo7966 Fair! Honestly I was editing the cards and they were all 2 at the time so I could've easily changed the cost. My reference point for the card was Breath of the Gods.

@@DIGI-PANDA Yeah the cost is insane for an effect with that much value, especially considering Analogman is the closest equivalent and he's a cost 4 tamer who could be interacted with. I agree with some others that think 'item' options should do an effect and then become a source of a Digimon on the field. That way Blue has means of dealing with it via source stripping, Black can destroy an entire stack if you dedigivolve to an 'Item', Red/Purple can attempt to pop since it's a Digimon, and Green can suspend/attack into it, etc. It might not be the most original way to approach it but if the Design team dives into the concept, I'm sure they would likely design something that makes us entirely regret the idea.

@@HappyModder87 My only justification would be because it's a one time redirect, versus using the redirect every turn.
