Art Director is one of the easiest job in the world. You basically sit down and tell other people what to do. And get paid more than the artist who ACTUALLY do the work.

When it is easy you are doing it wrong. (It is called the Dunning-Kruger effect) Also you are not just happen to become an Art Director. To get to that point you have to become an exceptional artist. Someone who other artists look up to.
