    It's called Branch Rivalry, like of course they would. SF and SO guys can be dicks, they all think they're better then eachother. But when they are in a combat situation, they don't care about that. They will stand, fight, and die for eachother.

    Arctic Productionz I just think this whole rivalry thing is stupid as hell. I mean if they were comparing themselves to guys in other nation's militaries that would be one thing but rivalries between branches? They are literally on the same side. I mean even the slightest research shows that there is so much overlap in what these guys do it just seems stupid

    Branch rivalry while they are brothers in combat but it's different behind the scenes but SEALs have been shady lately acting like gangsters. 2 DEVGRU/ SEAL team 6 members murdered a Green Beret in Africa who turned down their dirty money. And the murder shed light on bigger corruption among SEAL ranks and a wide spread drug epidemic cause they don't get tested like others cause they are always on the go. Apparently they were stealing money from slush funds for informants killing informants and taking money CIA gave them all types of messed up shit. Look it up there's articles about it not so much the details of the investigation but the murder and drug use is public

    At the risk of being "THAT" guy, the only personnel from MARSOC / Naval Special Warfare / Green Berets that are classified as Special Forces are the Green Berets. Afghani Commandos "could" be designated as Special Forces being that the Army SF mentored and trained the vast majority of them. MARSOC (Raiders) / Naval Special Warfare (SEALs / SWCCs) / Army's 75th Ranger Regiment / Air Force CCT's Air Force Para-Rescue (PJ's) Air Force SOWT (Special Operations Weather Technicians) are designated as Special Operations Forces (SOF) There is one entity that I am not sure of because in essence they are both SF and SOF. That being Army Special Forces Operations Detachment Delta (Delta Force). Although they are designated as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta, Delta is under operations control of United States Special Operations Command's (USSOCOM) Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC)

    Are you basing this off of how one is more used in TV and movies than the other? And saying that seals talk too much is completely misguided. And that a green beret is a silent warrior with with no Hollywood is also very misguided. Did you forget what Rambo was? Do you forget that both of these people are extremely useful SOF units, that both have there place in the battlefield? I just feel like this was supposed to be hating on seals when without them a major high value target could almost walk free anywhere they wanted behind their lines. Or a group of terrorist officers wouldn't have to hide in a mountain with a massive slew of men covering the valley below. GB's have there place on the field, and that's going in and helping the native allied presence in the area. But what they can't take the head off the snake, that's what seals do. And because of that it's fitting that people love them. But that doesn't mean GB's are any better or worse.

    Yes, but more. Their original role was in Europe help European countries in case they were overrun by the Soviets. Thus, their original role was as you said. But, since they understand how to conduct guerrilla warfare, they also understand how to fight guerrillas. So, that has become another role. They also conduct direct actions like raids and captures and they often do that along with indigenous forces. They teach indigenous forces about weapons, tactics, field fortifications and communications. They also help local people to secure good drinking water, build schools and provide medical care. It's kind of complicated, isn't it. In essence, they live with the local people and rely on them.

    This is the best explanation Ive seen as to the difference. This was an answer to "why do SEALs get more attention?" "Green Berets", the nickname for the U.S. Special Forces. There are a couple of reasons why they get less attention than SEALs, but it comes down to "this is intentional." Special Forces are also nicknamed "the Quiet Professionals". Unlike SEALs, who have a reputation across the military for being Hollywood cowboys in highly polished sunglasses, SF operators have a reputation for flying under the radar. Unlike SEALs who are stationed at lovely (popular) places like Coronado and Virginia Beach, SF are stationed at major U.S. army installations, which are generally located in places like Ft. Bragg (Fayetteville, NC, best known as "those exits you drive past on I-95 when passing through NC"), Ft. Campbell (Kentucky. I need not say more), Ft. Lewis (Tacoma, Washington. Not bad, but not a tourist mecca) etc. Furthermore, there are roughly three times as many SF as there are SEALs, with 5 active duty SF groups and 2 National Guard groups, each consisting of several SF battalions. This is not counting those who earn their special forces "long tab" (the equivalent of the SEAL trident) and eventually return to serve in other, non-SF units within the Army, quietly bringing their experience with them. Due to the very different structure of the Navy (whose SEALs are essentially an anomaly in an otherwise entirely primarily technical service), there isn't really the same equivalent. Put another way, SEALs are very big fish, in a pond where nobody else does what they do. SF are very big fish, in a pond where there are tons of other fish that are similar in a lot of ways. Which do you think stands out more? Army Rangers are a special operations force, but unlike the SEALs and SF, are most often deployed in larger formations and in more traditional infantry missions. This is another major difference between SEALs, SF, Rangers, and Delta. Of these four, only SEALs are not infantry (or overwhelmingly selected therefrom), and lack the same training in traditional infantry operations. While this makes SEALs essentially purpose-trained special operators, it means they are less well-rounded in other ways. So, while the primary mission of a SEAL team today tends to be Special reconnaissance and Counter-terrorism, with some Direct action (and of course are the nation's premier maritime forces); they completely lack the less glamorous light infantry capability of the Rangers, and have far less expertise than either the Rangers or SF in the Unconventional warfare mission. Which do you think gets more media coverage: a counter-terrorism raid, or 8 months spent hidden in the jungle training local insurgents to resist their oppressors, and teaching them the finer points of assaulting an objective with a company sized force including light armor? There's one additional wrinkle. With Delta in particular, they are very cognizant of the negative PR they received after Operation Eagle Claw. So they are reclusive by nature, even before you take into account the sensitive natures of their missions.

    I'm a big fan of Delta Force. I got to know a lot about how they operate in watching "The Unit" a TV show directed by a former Delta Force member Eric L Haney. They do all of their missions in so much secrecy. Even their training is kept a big secret. I'm always trying to find a video on Delta Force training on KZread, but they never have them. But I can always see SEAL training videos. I love all of our SF branches and love watching movies and documentaries on them. These guys are elite individuals who know how to get the job done.

    both specialize in raids (direct action)but the basic difference is a focus on unconventional warfare for US ARMY Special Forces aka. Green Berets. Unconventional Warfare means that Green Berets are Americas guerilla fighters. The mostly live in country, conducting missions against larger forces by themselves or attached to indigenous-local forces. The base is traditionally linked to OSS units of WW2. That worked with rebel fighters behind enemy lines in Italy and France before D-day. They conducted raids, sabotage, ambushes, assassination etc. Its safe to conclude that Green Berets continue these mission types.

    Ok so this is how I look at it. Through research and talking with Green berets I have found that SEALS and SF are very similar. They have almost the same mission set, except SF stay in an area for months. SEALS are also very good in and around the water but SF also has five detachment teams. Overall, if you serve out country you got my respect

    Green Berets have far more complex missions than the SEALs teams. They require more brains than brawn work to accomplish their multi faceted missions. So in terms of challenges, the Green Berets mission objectives seem to be more difficult than the SEALs.

    The basic role of SF is a nearly perfect implementation of fighting smarter. But, as was the case in Vietnam, other units, like MACVSOG, would employ personnel from SF, SEALS, Marine Force Recon, etc., for other roles. And use their skills appropriate to a mission. For example, SEALs or Force Recon folks would stay as discrete units. SF folks would have teams comprised of indigenous and American personnel. But SF would also have the option of all American teams for special tasks. Were I to know then, what I know now, I would have stayed in traditional SF operations and not gone to MACVSOG. SF was a more perfect fit for me.

    well for starters Green Berets is Only SF unit, Force recon In reality, Recon do aside from gather intelligence on the enemy from afar - and call in Arty / CAS strikes on enemy strong points and targets worth calling in ordinance. so they're the equivalent of JTAC Combat Controllers................................and For Delta? they Conduct worldwide covert operations for the Pentagon In Joint Task Force operations with SEALs, Rangers, Pararescueman and even British S.A.S. but to answer you're question, they mostly conduct Counter- terrorism and Anti-Chemical warfare ops if needed so they are held to extreme Higher standards.

    Green berets are meant for heavy duty work involving tactical warfare. From any level of Warfare green berets are trained in this field. They are trained to survive in the woods alone and able to track stealthily and precisely without being heard taking out combat troops without being caught. They are the heaviest of the hardcore military and used to be part of the marine special forces. Idk if the US army took that over or not but from what stand points I hear is that they have.

    So... I'm seeing this a lot, well... everywhere. Where does everybody get the idea that Delta Force pulls guys in from anywhere and everywhere in the U.S. military? Guys have crazy claims like Delta pulling guys from DEVGRU, Recon, and MARSOC. From what I can tell, the majority if not all come from the Army, with the majority of that group coming from the Ranger regiment and Special Forces groups and any member coming from an outside branch does a lateral transfer for some other reason.

  • @MrProcivil

    @MrProcivil

    2 жыл бұрын

    Kevin Holland. Former DEVGRU who left the SEALS to join Delta Force. I don't know if it was him or someone else but someone once said that even thougt DEVGRU and Delta trained to do more or less the same mission, certain guys in DEVGRU see Delta as a promotion.. but yeah, most of Delta operators come from the Army because unlike SEALS, it's almost impossible to apply for Delta unless they desperately need personnel. Most of the time you got chosen by Delta officers to attend selection and they won't go to other branches to pick up people. Any SEALs can apply for DEVGRU but for Delta, most of the time you just need to do your job and pray that Delta officers come for you. Unless you know somebody. For e.g Chris Vasant who passed Ranger selections but was sent to 82nd Airborne because of drink driving. He spent some years in 82nd and his commander in 82nd was friend with the a Delta colonel. So he refer Chris to him and Chris was able to attend selection

    He was lite on the differences, all SOF Groups can do a variety of things, but there is only one master of the battle space, the only Group in the US Armed Service that are call Special Forces, and that's the US Army Special Forces, AKA " The Green Berets". FID is what sets these operator apart from any other. The "Green Berets" number one goal is UW and FID. All the DA and SR and other stuff is great but UW and FID is there hallmark, no one is better at this in the US armed forces. Man I miss Bragg and 1st SWTG
