I barely work out at all (few weights at home for 5 minutes when I remember) and I look better at 38 than I did in my 20s. Problem athletes have is they are used to eating so much more than a normal person because their job is to exercise. If they retire and don't moderate their diet, getting fat is inevitable.

Well yes it does require immense discipline to stay in shape like that. But for a professional footballer a more slim bodytype with less muscle mass is much more optimal for cardio and stamina. The extra muscle doesn't really add anything but only makes you perform worse on the pitch. So you might be asking, why would Ronaldo have so much excess muscle mass? This is for brand and image reasons.

@@Abababab2100 it’s not anything to do with genius or not. It’s hunger, their stomach get enlarged after years of consuming large amounts of food. So even with less activity, they feel hungry as if they’ve been training all day. Few people manage to readjust in the reverse and that’s why weight gain for athletes is common post retirement.

@@CR-ys7eq even after R9 his injuries he still kept on going,because he was one of the greatest strikers in history and he had winners mentality,I can relate to the injuries that R9 had in the past...Let me say if you have knee injuries in football,it's very difficult to make a comeback and to keep yourself in very good shape...But still,after he came back from his injuries he was still on fire and that's because R9 was so talented that defender's where still scared of him when he came in front of the goal
