Im always sticking with H3 rubber and also played with others sticky chinese rubber. Besides the blue sponge reason, Black rubber indeed is more stickier and spinner. Red rubber usually faster and less stickiness..

45 years ago I already played with black rubber on forehand and backhand, because I already noticed that I could give more spin with black rubbers. So for me it was a disadvantage that I had to play with black and red with the introduction of the new rule.🙁

Os tray a new rule to be able to go ball the way to the side of the table and near the net? We used to just stand on the ends and only went to the sides, if the ball was near or going in that direction.

I think the type of rubber is more important than the color. for example, I can buy a mercury rubber from china and choose whether I want black or red color. so it doesn't matter which color, it still is the same rubber. and for example you select a certain black rubber, most likely you can also choose the same type of rubber with red color. so the type of rubber is more important.

u forgot the one main reason of why they actually play black on forehand.. blue sponge national rubbers (which they use since almost a decade) is only available in black since the red topsheet would get too dark because of the blue sponge..

Toi cung ra't thi'ch ! ! in the 1990, red was meant for forehand, but it is harder than black, thus a bit harder to control . . . so modern day players switch them around. usually, forehand usage is MORE than backhand rubber. Old master like Jan Ove WALDNER still uses red in his forehand.

If they aren't all required to use the same standardized rubber, what's really the difference? If the characteristics of the rubber happen to be the same regardless of color, will that then confuse the opponent no end because he's now expecting a certain kind of return if he sees one color vs the other? Do they really key off the color rather than just the motion of the bay and ball as it's struck?

I don’t know how the Chinese have the same tires - Stig, Mendo, red and black - the difference in weight is THREE GRAM !!. These are two different rubbers - 1 gram of weight for maximum thickness gives one step of speed, and here there are three steps. And I had different sponges in chemistry, not only in weight - probably at factories located on different continents they made red and black rubber, so they turned out completely different

You should use the same rubber on both sides., soft rubber that is. Any decent Paddle in the 30 to $50 range is good enough, now the rubber super important that is where you should spend your money. This is the problem you all is using the same grip that the americans used 50 yrs ago and you swing the same turning your body on the forehand and hitting your backhand with the elbow.. That makes the swing go up and the face closes now you are hitting the top of the ball which makes the ball go down. So what do you do if the ball comes low. Hit garbage. Hit with the paddle face open go forward and up with your wrist and hit the bottom off the ball. Going forward with the face open and hitting the bottom of the ball will make the ball go up a little fly fast and have a ton of spin (but it will not come back to the table). That is why you go up with the wrist along with the forward motion So the ball flys fast and gets over the net with spin, the up motion just tells the ball where to go and with all the spin the ball has it will kick like a super ball when it hit you opponent side of the table. That is where soft rubber comes in. It Holds the ball long enough so the paddle face can be open when you hit Anyone who need like pimples to get power don know how to hit. Because when you use spin and kick., a person using pimples should not even be able to handle your shots.Pimples can only handle shots with no spin. But up till now everyone hits straight balls. And you can return a fast straight ball with a baseball bat. To handle a shot with spin and Kick you have to have good solid technic and good rubber. What a joke 2 different rubbers to me would not give me a consistant feel. This game is fast so you need a fast swing and a swing that will get you over the net and back to the table. This is just my opinion. But alot off player are starting to do this. Of course the Japanese keep losing because they are hard headed. Some people dont like hearing you have been doing it wrong all these years, But that is a fact. Try what I say and hit the ball right then the game is easy.
