Thanks for a year of great videos Josh.
Merry Christmas Josh and family.
When I still worked at a shop, we had a Cummins N14 that broke a piston. Got towed back with a pile of shrapnel in the oil pan, an outline of the piston crown stamped into the head, and the rod punched through the liner still holding the wrist pin. The rest of the piston was perfectly intact, it was only the skirt that failed. While inspecting the block, I found that the piston cooling nozzle for that one was completely clogged with sludge, so it failed due to the piston overheating. Not really surprising because the owner wasn't too keen on oil changes.
Happy holidays, i do enjoy your channel!!
😂😂😂 Had a great laugh with my coffee ☕️. Thank you for the shout out Josh. Perfect Christmas 🎄 destruction. Merry Christmas Josh. Very awesome and amazing and mind blowing destruction. Cheers Josh.

Thanks for sharing have a great Christmas
The leaning C15 was just having an identity crisis and thought it was in a ford 😂😂
Yep, lots of blowed up parts there. Can't say I haven't been responsible for some in my life, a Ford 300 and and a 1972 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle come to mind. Keep the good stuff coming buddy and Merry Christmas.
A very Merry Christmas to you and all your family thanks for posting the most costly disasters I've seen wow, anyhow enjoy your Christmas

Have you done the cat Failure Anaylsis course?
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ⚘⚘⚘
1st. South Florida, Merry Christmas to all who follow Josh !! 🎄🎄
The cylinder head with the chunk out of it reminds me of the head on my 2-53 Detroit. It had a patch welded on it.
Mechanical carnage!
Wish you would have made a video of the bolts being removed from the one in your shop. That would have been cool
I remember fixing a Mercedes Benz V8 diesel engine that dropped a valve in the early 90’s. They had individual heads. I pulled one head dropped the oil pan and replaced the piston and put it back together. The valve was jammed in the head in a new location. I enjoyed the Deutz too. They had individual heads and jugs and it was easy to just fix one cylinder and be back to work quickly.
What do you do when you have a block failure in one of those giant 3516? I can't see them paying to replace/tear down and entire powerplant for a relatively minor hole in the block. Can it be patched at all or is the block modular at all?

Great question. I often wondered how they navigate a major repair in a situation where they built a structure around the engine. Ex. Cruise ships, power plants, etc. Cheers and merry Christmas!!!

It depends like in that video those side plates are meant to break if there’s to much compression in the bottom end to try and save the block but if there is chunks missing from the block they usually replace it because it cost more to repair cast iron then regular steel at least in the 35 hundred series of engines can’t say about big big cargo shits
seen a 3500 series that threw a rod, they brazed up the missing chunk and a new cylinder kit and sent it.
I have a 6.0 Powerstroke laying on my shop floor. It’s piston melted down just like that. Use it for show and tell lol. It dropped the tip of injector out and we said send it drove 120 miles back to the shop, fogging insects after fogging was made illegal. We had to stop and put oil in it 4 times. I think there’s still oil in a few spots from that 18yrs later. But it didn’t stop all the rust.
That coolant tank looks like a Ford/Sterling piece; years ago I drove a L8000 and a 9000 with those and they dryrotted constantly with the heat and leaked like that all the time.
where do you check oil pressure manually on a cm870? Thru the pipe plug ontop the oil filter housing? =or= do you pull the sensor and use that hole?
On 4CK PEEC engines, before Cat released the personality module that would derate the engine when the timing advance failed. The advance would go to 35.7 degrees all the time. For some reason cylinder's one and two would show the most severe damage. I have pulled the head off and you could see the piston rings. The piston would melt and would be like liquid metal. On the bottom of the head, in the exhaust port and out the turbo. Turbo was locked up from all the piston material stuck to it. One of the luckiest failures I have seen, was on a 3406C. engine dropped a valve flipped it over and stuck dead center in the piston. The head was repairable with four valves, nozzle chamber, nozzle. Pushed the piston out left the liner in the engine. Honed the liner replace piston and rings
Hello Josh, am i huge fan. i have a rare problem i never seen before on a C13, i been trying to look for some info about a super extreme condensation where i had to replace CCV twice, and compressor was replaced. any idea where or what to look for?
I should have gotten more video of that c13. Turns out the crank was about snapped in half was a lot more carnage. It got a short block. Crack in one of the oil galley’s
I think the loss piston needs bigger rings. Then it will be perfect. 😂
Back before my Cat house days, I was at a KW house, and we had a spate of C15's (BXS if memory serves) that had rear housing mount bolt failures. Whole customer fleet got re-done after their 3rd failure. Not sure if it was an assembly job at KW or if their fleet manager had done something goofy before he left on poor terms. Either way, the "that ain't right" lean is no fun to see.
Mine was bio diesel on a 3406e. Sat for a couple of years. Fuel system ruined
Off subject question. I’m looking to buy an older cat d6r that has a c9 engine. Is that a good engine?
I thought holes were inspection ports
😎👍
maybe a dumb question to you; but where did all the carbon clogging the T stat come from?...Thanx
that L9000 is my brothers truck
I’ve seen aluminum pistons melted pretty bad in gas 2 strokes. Never seen it that bad in a diesel though
Why is the C13 your favorite engine ?
You said c13 is your favorite engine? Can you explain that on a future video.
As the world is going electric I was just wondering how many miles do you supose an electric motor can go? !
First 👊🏻💪🏻
Hello, I would like to buy some heavy equipment motors...such as...C10g2.C11..C13
Who still uses green coolant
Just curious how a cat mechanic can't see that the vented block at 3:05 is a manual cat 3406 series
