@@uwestreibel7319 Das war ein PzKpfw III Ausführung N den Tiger gab es nicht mit Kurzem Lauf. Die Primäre Kanone war ein 8,8cm Geschütz was bei einem Kurzen Lauf keinen Sinn ergeben hätte.

It's Pzkv IV with short 75mm gun. There are also Czech made tanks in the footage so it's the early stage of Russian campaign, first winter probably.

There were no Tiger tanks. Only Panzer IV with short 7.5 cm L/24 cannon and at the very beginning Czech 38T (recognizable by the 4 large rollers).

This is a 1941 film. See the 'pedia for "Die Frontschau" for a list, though there appears to be a typo in the list, to wit: FS 8 and FS 11 are marked 1943, but FS 9/10 is marked 1941--pretty sure that has to be 1943 as well. Apparently there were only 11 of these, used to train troops in preparation for being shipped eastward.

There is no Tiger tanks in this video.

Interesting clip, but those are either Panzer IIIs or IVs (maybe both?). So this is probably winter 1941/42. Tigers weren't first employed in combat until late 1942 in North Africa.

Yeah, both Pzkw 3 & 4 and also a small column of Pzkw 38t I think. Concur with Theo that first use of Tiger was late 42 on the Leningrad front.

@majlo77 Thank you. It's been a few years since I read the information and I cannot remember the source. I seem to remember that their performance was disappointing due to the terrain being covered in swamps and woodland where the Tiger was restricted to roads and did not have good-sight-lines to use it's gun to best-effect.

The digitizing of the film was done so poorly in the past… the new era of redigitized, upscaled, and 60fps ww2 footbe is long overdue

You can tell not only by the poor camouflage attempts of the soldiers that this has to be winter 41/42, and by that there where no Tigers around then.But nevertheless nice footage anyway.

I am glad i did not had to fight anybody in these circumstanses - been a artellery soldier for 4 years on a selfpropelled howitser m-109 155mm and even it was cold you was inside the turret and not out in the Field , must have been really hard.

Here is the oath every member of the armed forces in and of Germany (and later other territories added to the Riech) took; "I swear by God this sacred oath that I shall render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Fuehrer of the German Reich, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and that as a brave soldier I shall be prepared to give my life for this oath." That is your duty and honour? It was all about Hitler. From 1934 they swore a personal oath to Hitler, not Germany. Every time they advanced, they brought the Nazi party with them, every day they fought they defended the continued operation of death camps, slave labour and all the other joys of Nazism. The ones who performed with 'duty and honour' were the ones who surrendered or deserted or who left Nazi Germany in the years before WW2, or who resisted from within like the Edelweiss Pirates, the members of the Red Orchestra, and so on. Would it have been easy to make choices in Germany from 1933? At one level, no. At another, given the vile nature of what was unfolding in plain sight, yes. Were there levels of complicity - of course. But the thing about honour and duty is that it only means much when the test comes and sacrifice is needed. Honour and duty was trying to stop Germany from being led into a disaster that would inflict unbearable suffering on its own people, as well as those Hitler and the Nazis decided to prey upon. Did members of the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS fight with proficiency, determination and courage? Yes. Did many feel misgivings - doubtless. But they were ultimately fighting for death camps, for genocide, for ridiculous ideas about 'racial superiority'. Where was the duty and honour in that? Let's also not pretend that Hitler and the Nazis kept the people in the dark - as Hitler himself said on many occasions, "No other politician in history has been so clear as I on what I intended." I am guessing we will have to agree to disagree.
