All of her clothes would have ripped off, but children's movie.
I think it's a pretty satisfying ending. Firstly, she needed to be big again to save the others, secondly, it shows she accepts her new self, new friends, and new role of protecting the Earth.

I think you might have missed the part where the rest of the monsters were _trapped_ in the central core of the ship. If Susan didn't rescue them, they would have died when the ship exploded. She chose to become big again to save her friends' lives. It had nothing to do with Derrek, or her life afterward, it was purely a tactical decision.
You were missing the key point and message of the ending. Her sacrifice for her friends (that btw probably would have been dead otherwise) and acceptance of how she is, even when shes freakishly tall, is what makes that movie so good. It was not only an action of selflessness, but also a big sign of character growth.

You said "She choose".... I think that's the important bit. She's not following anybody else's path (obviously cause nobody is her size) she starting her own adventure as somebody who has confidence in their own abilities. She's going to get to travel the world and save it.

Susan as herself would have died on the spaceship. Accepting herself as Ginormica made her a SUPERHERO!
I died inside a little when the president played the Axel Foley theme song and she went: "oH, iS tHaT CrAzY fRoG?!".

Susan's new monster friends accepted her for who she was now, whereas Derek didn't, although he pretended to at the end. And I think she would rather have them in her life. She embraced her new life as Ginormica, willing to sacrifice the normal life she could have had.
It's even better if you get all the references to 1950s sci-fi and monster movies, such as The Blob, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Fly, Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, Mothra, and of course, all the classic flying saucer movies. Even the paddle-ball scene in the beginning was a nod to the 3-D gimmicks used in movies like House of Wax.
Fun Fact: They made a TV show out of this movie.

She said "omg it's the Crazy Frog music" when he played Faltermeyer's Axel F 🤣
She didn't choose to be a monster, she realized she never was, except in the minds of the real monsters she literally and figuratively outgrew in the end.
31:47 Oh Mary... MARY... there's a reason the entire planet simped over Lady Dimitrescu...
The "Crazy Frog" reference was actually referencing Axel F from the 80's. Now I feel old.
That song is actually Axel F played in the movie Beverly Hills Cop.
“The only place aliens seem to land in”. I mean, no one questions that giant monsters only attack Japan.
The "synthesizer music for communicating with aliens" bit is originally from Steven Spielberg's 1977 "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", and was spoofed in the 1996 "Independence Day" w/ Will Smith & Jeff Goldblum, which you watched last year.
It's a sad time when someone recognises the music the President played as 'Crazy Frog'.
Fun fact: all the monsters you see in Monster vs Aliens are based of real classic monsters, like Ginormica is based of Attack of the 50 foot woman, Dr Cockroach based of The Fly, Bob based of Blob, Missing Link based of Creature of the Black Lagoon, and Insectosaurus is based of Mothra but has the origins of Godzilla
@MikolajNieswiety

And Gallaxhar is based of Squidward
Probably my favorite reference in the film is when the villain tells his clones to “Destroy All Monsters”, which it the title of basically the Avengers: Endgame of Godzilla movies
There was going to be a sequel to the movie, but it was cancelled as the film made $18 million dollars in it's opening weekend. There was an animated series based on the movie but it was cancelled after 22 episodes.

So the giant Susan throwing a giant syringe at the soldier's foot I think was a meta reference to 1958's Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. In that classic movie the giant woman impaled the soldier who shot her killing him. If I remember correctly it was a sequel to The Amazing Colossal Man from 1957. In any event definitely fitting in with the Monsters Vs. Aliens theme of the animated feature. 😅
@MxQuist0812

Actually, the hypo scene was from the Amazing Colossal Man, which had a sequel, War of the Colossal Beast. The 50 Foot Woman was a completely independant story where she is exposed to radiation from a giant alien's UFO, and he was irradiated from a new experimental super bomb. All three were great popcorn flicks on the Saturday afternoon Monster Matinees and evening Creature Features. I love this movie because of all the different references to the B-movie Sci-Fi thrillers of the 50's and 60's.

I have a memory of being 5 or 6 years old, and walking into the room with the amazing colossal man on in the back ground, and I vividly remember the giant throwing the syringe and impaling a man with it lol
50s and 60s sci fi. With the genrral a satire of Gen. PATTON and George C Scott who played hiim in a classic movie. The Fly, creature from the Black Lagoon, the Blob , The 50ft Woman and a giant insect, The music "key" was Axel F from "Beverly Hills Cop" as a Close Encounters joke.
One of the best Dreamworks films of 2009.
Guy was like no one told us what to do and immediately picked up a phone and said a code 😂😂😂, I always found that part funny.

One of my favourite movies from childhood. looking back on it, is it a good movie? eh? maybe? but it is a lot of fun, and the voice actors are all great. Love Seth Rogen especially.
Nobody ever talks about the intro to "Planet Claire" by the B-52s while the president is walking up the stairs...

This had a show and in the show Susan found the ability to switch between her normal and giant size.
I fondly remember seeing "Monsters vs. Aliens" in the cinema with my mother when I was 6 years old, and we both had a wonderful time with the audience, whom they wowed and laughed at the same time. And it's one of those movies that I watched multiple times as a kid, and it never fails to entertain me from beginning to end.💯

The tune that the president was playing was Axel F from Beverly Hills Cop.
Always enjoy your reactions. The music the president used to communicate was a combination of two movies. The idea of the music itself: "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". The music used is from "Beverly Hills Cop". The comment Link made about the climate getting warmer being convenient is reference to "An Inconvenient Truth" about Climate Change.
11:37 I won't go into specifics in case you end up watching it at some point, but that was a reference to a scene in a 1977 sci-fi film called 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'.
I just noticed "General W.R Monger" - nice.
21:58 In spite of everything we've done for them, eventually they will hate us
You should do Over the Hedge. It has bruce willis, Gary shandling, Steve corelle, William Shatner, many other actors.
“My Ph.D is in DANCE!” Is so iconic
strangely, aliens always seem to invade where the moviemaker lives...

There’s a TV series set after the film, I think Susan learns to change sizes.
The keyboard tune was "Axel F" from "Beverly Hills Cop".

Characters from 50s horror flicks... - Godzilla (any Kaiju movie) - Creature from Black Lagoon - The Blob - Attack of the 50 ft Woman - The Fly (any scientist turned insect) - Any movie about UFOs
Self acceptance is the message, not clinging to the past.... Unless the past is all of the 1950's era classic monsters. (And it is Axel F, not crazy frog)
Thank you. Rainn Wilson starred in the detective series "Backstrom" (2015).
The Halloween special they did is a good watch too
Mary, please watch Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle.
Axel f music comes on…. Mary, “oh crazy frog” haha. Someone please recommend the Beverly Hills cop movies 😂
She chose to be giant to save her friends from being crushed or exploded.
If she hadn't chosen to be Ginormica, everyone dies and the bad guy wins. At least as Ginirmica, she denied him the victory and has a better fighting chance Not only did she gain strength and confidence to fight, and save the Earth, she learned the attitude displayed when Galaxar says "You could have killed me!, and she replies "So we understand each other..." And she fought as normal little Susan, too
I haven’t watched this in ages. Such an underrated classic animated film

9/10 Pretty Innocent, And Fun To Watch This was a pleasant surprise: a nice, feel-good film that is pretty innocent and sports the usual beautiful Dreamworks art. The artwork and colors are magnificent. I say "surprise" because it did not get great reviews. Thus, I wasn't expecting the quality film I got. The good guys - the "monsters" are typically-likable as you see in other animated films of today. They are pretty funny, too, diverse "monsters" like "Dr. Cockroach, B.O.B and The Missing Link. They, along with "Ginormica," who does her impression of the 1950s sci-fi character, "The F-Foot Woman," are appealing and fun to watch. I'm tempted to describe this movie as "innocent," because it's such a nice story that doesn't have all the innuendos some other animated films have, yet still will make most adults laugh in many spots because there is some good humor that kids wouldn't get. "Monsters Versus Aliens" shows one doesn't need "edginess" in every movie to have adults enjoy the kids' film, too.
I wish Monsters vs. Aliens 2 was released on theaters and IMAX June 16, 2015, and was released on DVD & Blu-Ray December 18, 2015
11:28 It was an hommage to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", absolutely iconic movie from the 1970s
That song is Axel F. As in Axel Foley from Beverly Hills Cop.
My childhood I own the video game and watched this plenty of times!
She's a super hero, who needs normal!
My favorite scene from this movie is the buttons scene where one button launches all the nuclear missiles and the other makes lattes and the president almost hit the missiles button. 😅 President: What idiot designed this thing? Guy: You did, sir.
The wedgie scene still makes me laugh to this day
General W.R. Monger. War Monger. Cute
Does anyone else think that this is basically a sci-fi Wizard of Oz story? The girl gets a powerful something after something else big falls out of the sky, winds up in a mysterious place with weird creatures, is sent on a quest by a floating stranger, is paired with three companions (one who has trouble with courage and another who doesn’t have a brain), she gets captured by the force that wants that power, and the friends rush in to save her.
