It's a great example of how "diversity and inclusion" should be done in movies CORRECTLY! What sucks is that Disney went away from this, and went entirely to subverting great works of art that had already been created, and transforming them, for the sake of "The Message." This movie, at least, was great, because it was original. If only Disney had stuck to that formula...
Parking duty may have been played as a joke, but if you think about it, it's also one of the faster ways to familiarize a new cop with navigating a large city. Fun fact: The "90% prey" cited by Bellwether actually _is_ a realistic ratio between animals.

And Bogo might've assigned Judy an experienced partner, but all his experienced officers were busy with missing mammals cases.
I appreciate that this movie is unafraid to show that it's not just horrible people that can have prejudice, but it can even exist within good hearted people like Judy and hurt individuals like Nick.
The male news anchor is actually localized in some regions to be a native species and voiced by a local-ish celeb. For Australia the Koala anchor is voiced by Australian singer David Campbell. The other versions are: - Moose (Default) - Tanuki / Raccoon Dog (Japan) - Jaguar (Brazil) - Panda (China)
It acutally makes sense for different animals to need different tazers (though specifically saying fox instead of medium sized has implications). Unlike humans which are pretty close, Zootopia is full of mammels with much greater variety in size. What would down an fox would kill a mouse. What would down a mouse wouldn't be felt by a fox.

It's interesting to see different reactors' take on Chief Bogo's handling of Judy when she first arrives. Some say it's the prejudice showing in not wanting a bunny cop do anything of importance, others that it makes sense and that she can't expect a top notch assignment her first day but must work her way up and earn trust like in any profession. I personally lean towards the latter. Just goes to show that we have different starting points when judging a situation.

Looking into this movie, it actually had a much darker origin. The predators were more like second class citizens and had to wear shock collars that would shock them any time they felt any emotion. There was also a coming of age party where predators would get their shock collar. The popsicle scene is basically the same. I'd recommend checking it out... The storyboards and some limited animations are out there. Personally, I saw it in a 3 part set of videos where the dude set up the storyline in order. I honestly wish we had interdimensional cable where we could get that movie as well as this one. Or watch movies that never got made like the Nic Cage Superman.
Zootopia pulls together various elements - a neo-noir mystery, a buddy-cop comedy, and timely social themes - into a mostly entertaining animated film.
This movie has a strong anti-racism message that is handled pretty well. It's not an easy topic to tackle and they managed to do it in an entertaining kid friendly way.

This is a great movie. There’s an anime called Beastars that has the same basic idea, though they separate herbivores and carnivores instead of predators and prey. However, it’s very dark and mature. Both pieces take on the same issues, but take very different approaches. Zootopia is optimistic, while Beastars is pessimistic. A line from each that I think exemplifies the themes in each is “in Zootopia, anyone can be anything.” -Zootopia. And “You can’t get strong with just idealism. The world isn’t that easy.” -Beastars.
Emmett Otterton was screaming about night howlers because he's a florist, therefore knows what they actually are. That's why he was targeted. He'd figured out what was going on, and was going to tell Mr. Big.
Ever since I saw the statue of the mammoth with a primitive spear, I can't help but wonder how the dinosaurs looked like in this universe
A lot of them are too small and go by too fast to notice, but basically every sign in Zootopia is some sort of animal pun, like Targoat and Mousy's.
It's almost rare that Disney has a original movie and it's pretty good!
my fav movie & shakira song in zootopia when i was 1st day university student 2016, love that moment.
Development for this movie was apparently a nightmare. They had written the script, recorded the voice lines, and started animating some of the scenes before they decided to rework the whole movie from the ground up. The story originally followed Nick trying to achieve his dream of being a theme park owner in a world already prejudiced against predators.
@perx3561
Жыл бұрын
Yeah there are some rough animations around on youtube I believe, taken from I guess Blu-Ray extras(?). Originally all predators had to wear shock-collars that would give them an electric shock whenever they felt _any_ strong emotions. The theme park was where the predators could briefly experience life without said collars. It was an interesting idea, but probably just a bit too dark for a family film (and IIRC why they shelved that idea).

One of the things Lassiter was known for was his willingness to NOT double down on a bad scene or even a whole script. If he thought it wouldn't work, he would pull the plug and re-work it, or even cancel the project (which is why we never got the Jurassic movie teased in those bootlegged DVDs Weazleton was selling). The original script was really dark (probably not a bad story idea - but definitely NOT a Disney film for KIDS). I'm glad they did the re-work, because it gave us a _superior_ movie.

A few years back in the US a DMV worker actually dressed like a sloth. Not sure how it goes down there, but here it’s painfully accurate.
The radio gag with songs singing about being a looser reminded me of "Married With Children". They had the best radio insults "Remember that one (song). Well if you do you must be over 100 because it was 20 years ago" and that was the oldies station.

Ya know there are many amazing and memorable Disney quotes from Disney animated movies ex: "Do you trust me?","Hakuna Matata", "Keep Moving Forward", "Ohana means family", "To Infinity and Beyond" etc. But out of all of Disney's many animated movies with it's many quotable moments the one that i relate to 1000% is Nick Wilde simply saying "Never let them see that they get to you." That quote alone spoke to me more then any other Disney movie quote ever had before because not only did it make me feel so much for Nick but i honestly know how he feels when he said that. I like to think I'm a pretty mentally strong person. I try not to let people ruin my mood or bother me and if i do get hurt i usually just brush it off but what most don't know is that stuff does hurt me. I do get hurt just like any other person but I'm just very good at hiding it from people. It's like Nick said "never let them see that they get to you." That line hits so hard for me and always will.

The news anchor is a different species of animal depending on the region the movie is released in; obviously in Australia he is a Koala (I guess it was either that or a wallaby :p ). There's a bit of a "blink and you miss it" clue earlier on that Bellweather is the bad guy: when theyre looking at the traffic cams in her "office", they show her coffee mug, and in the same shot her telephone is also visible, with a post-it note attached to it with "Doug" and a phone number written on it. Of course we dont know about Doug until later, but one could conceivably still remember the post-it from earlier and piece it together

🦊👍 I'm not sure what the advantage would be to calling this "Zootropolis" in Australia. I know that Warner Brothers changed the title of "Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone" to "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" for the American market, because they were afraid that having the word "Philosopher" in the title might lead some people to believe it was some sort of snooty British period costume drama instead of an adventure film involving witchcraft and sorcery. 🐰

The second news anchor is a different animal and voice depending on the region. The american original (and some countries including Sweden, there voiced by actor Adam Fietz who also voiced Zurg in Toy Story 2 and Mr. Perkins in Despicable Me) is a moose named Moosebridge (real life news anchor Peter Mansbridge), in Australia he's Koala voiced by David E. Campbell, in Japan a tanuki (racoon dog) voiced by Japanese comedian and choreographer Koura Kazumasa, in China a Giant panda, still voiced by Peter Mansbridge, in Brazil a jaguar, voiced by Brazilian journalist Ricardo Boechat. The UK version was meant to be a corgi but kept a moose but renamed to Moosos Alexander, voiced by BBC sport reporter Vassos Alexander (though the home media release kept the US name and voice for some reason).
