this fact is semi-true. it is true that schultz resented the peanuts name, but the part that’s wrong is that his original name for the comic was “lil’ folks,” but out of fear of copyright, the editors changed the name to peanuts.

That's not actually Peanuts. It's more like the precursor (it eventually became Peanuts). While they did have the same character design, they didn't have the same name or anything else similar

You missed this in "The Peanuts Movie" In the scene where Charlie Brown is the most popular kid in the school, CB pulls out a comic book to Violet and Patty For a semi second you can see a comic on the called "Lil folks" an earlier iteration of peanuts by Schulz himself, running from 1947 and concluded in 1950 Thus peanuts was born

Cool fact: My city was where Charles Shultz lived. There’s statues of the characters all over town and even a museum and ice scatting ring was made about the peanuts.

I once heard the story for my mom that her grandma actually in some way new Charles Schulz, and he gave her a signed drawings of all the Peanuts characters together. I don't know if this is true or not but I like to believe so

So that's why the movie seemed to have two different titles

So they did it out of spite.

IIRC, the name Peanuts came from the "peanuts" and the "peanut gallery" the names of the child audience of The Howdy Doody Show that had become a short lived way to refer to children generally. However, considering the timeless popularity of Peanuts and the obsolescence of Howdy Doody, the reference is pretty much lost to all but the oldest fans.

Huh I was actually going to ask about that. When.he said they had to change the name, I was going "But why Peanuts of all things?" I've heard the term "peanut gallery" a lot though, usually in reference to unwanted commentary since I knew the peanut gallery was an old term for the audience.

The real original name was Lil Folks, however that name was already taken. Out of fear for copyright infringement, the editors renamed it Peanuts.

Prolly should've kept on not naming it peanuts in films. In his honour.

I don't think he wanted to call it "Charlie Brown" originally, because originally he was not the main character when the comic first debuted in the 1960s. Shermy and Patty were the original main characters for awhile in the beginning.

That's what Schulz created before Peanuts, almost like the precursor for it. The unnamed character designs were reused and eventually became known as Charlie Brown, Patty, and Shermy, but they are not the same people.
