I had similar experiences when I was younger. The only people who actually did well in school, went to college, and succeeded were all the privileged kids with wealthy parents. To start, not a single one of them had to pay back student debts. Having no 40k+ debt the instant you finish school puts you a lot further ahead in this rat race.

To be (slightly) fair, the waiter was the one who initially brought up "finishing college" thing. The waiter basically tossed a stone at Timmy so he can throw at the waiter's glass house. Sad thing is, now even graduating college can have you end up in a job like this. Myself, I was unemployed for three years after graduating, then worked another three years part-time in a grocery store as a cart wrangler, making no more than $200 a week after taxes. Now I have a full-time job in a fulfillment center (not Amazon, thankfully), having worked there for two years now, but the work is not in my field of study. But it pays well enough to where I was able to pay off my $31,185.52 student debt in one shot and have about $15,000 left over in my bank account. What irks me, though, is that employers in my field of study want experience in that field, but don’t consider the experience that I gained in college to be experience. But how does one get experience in that field if they can’t get a job in their field to begin with? Really, it’s a self-defeating cycle. Maybe if more employers were willing to take a chance on candidates fresh out of college, those graduates would be able to have more stability, happiness, and fulfillment in their lives. Sadly, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Man, I don't think we all realized how horribly accurate or important this episode was, as kids. Especially since the obvious moral of the story is "being an adult f-ing sucks." We were warned, but we didn't listen. 😔 Even worse given how going to college (let alone finishing it) makes little to no difference.

I've never felt like it was a good moral in these things that everything about being an adult is awful. That's pretty pessimistic. The lesson should be it's not all fun and games. But does have its ups, especially if you're responsible.

If you say and believe that, it'll only stay true. Try to keep a positive outlook even if you have to lie to yourself about it, eventually you'll see the brighter side to life. You only get one life man, don't spend your time resenting it, do what you love and spend your time in a way you can reminisce on when you're older.
