Did this Biblical MONSTER actually exist? The truth behind God's beloved Leviathan (Animation)

Фильм және анимация

You won’t believe that this creature actually exists on our planet. Out of all the creatures made by God, this one stand above them all. Its name is Leviathan, an enormous, armoured and destructive sea monster whose identity and existence is surrounded in mystery. Some say Leviathan is too horrifying to ever exist, it must have been a metaphoric concept, but I believe there is biblical evidence pointing towards the existence of such a beast.

    Thank you for this! You have an excellent take-away from Leviathan at the end there in what it means; Even something so mighty and terrible knows it's Lord God to whom it is subservient. Who are we to challenge him? I would note on the comparison of the Revelations beast, Revelations uses similar language as the prophecy in Daniel in which Nations are alluded to as beasts. The "beast from the sea" is a gentile nation of incredible power. Indeed, the Antichrist makes a deal with it, people follow it and wonder "Who can defeat it?". This comes from the common metaphor of the Sea being chaos or lack of form with the Land being created by God with order and form. So if it comes from the Sea, it's not from the people of Israel. In David's Metaphor, there are multiple beasts which come from the sea that would later be the beasts representing the coming nations of Persia, Greece and Rome. With another yet to come, interestingly enough from the LAND, a beast with Sheep-like horns that speaks like a Dragon. 🤔 At any rate, Leviathan is being spoken of literally by God, while David and Revelations are prophetic visions with metaphorical and literal meanings mixed in.

Beware of ANYONE that starts a sentence with "I believe"... belief is part of THEIR TRUTH and... as for truth itself? Remember "TRUTH is based on individual BELIEF and is therefore SUBJECTIVE". FACT, on the other hand, is "based upon the tangibility of empirical evidence and is therefore ABSOLUTE"! Has ANYONE considered that NONE OF THIS has ANY BASIS IN "FACT"? What has happened to the God-given quality of "discernment"? Is there ANY rational thinking left in this world?

    Leviathan is said to have multiple heads and breaths fire. Ancient chaos dragons were common in Ancient Near Eastern mythology. It is not unthinkable that God could take this preexisting folklore and use it as a polemic against the gods of the nations who were said to have been the one to slay the sea dragon. I don't see why we Bible believing Christians should be committed to Leviathan's reality anymore than the solid firmament.

  • @evanminton8315

    @evanminton8315

    2 ай бұрын

    @@michellealagbe8910 Exactly what I said. In ANE creation myths, it was not untypical for a god to slay a sea dragon before getting to the work of creation. For example, Marduk killing Tiamat in the Enuma Ellish. It's so common that Old Testament scholars and Ancient Near Eastern scholars coined a name for this; Chaoscomf. In Genesis 1, we don't have a chapscomf, but I do believe Leviathan is alluded to in Genesis 1:2 as the Spirit of God hovers over the surface of the waters of the primeval Earth. I think that this is part of all literary strategy on the part of the author, in order to display the supremacy of Yahweh over that of the gods of Israel's neighbors. Basically implying "Yahweh is so strong, he didn't even need to kill the sea dragon like your gods did. When Yahweh showed up, Leviathan was too scared to even show his face." Nevertheless, later passages in scripture (like Psalm 104) do mention Yahweh as the slayer of this mighty sea dragon. The reference to Leviathan's multiple heads can be found in Psalm 74:14 and the fire breathing is in Job 41:19. I think that what we have depicted here in the biblical text, is something more to a hydra than any creature that actually lived. I am a Christian with a high view of scripture (I affirm the Chicago Statement on inerrancy), but I think if such sea monsters actually existed, we would have found the bones of at least one or two of them. I think God was using well-known folklore as a teaching point. This is facet of a theory of inspiration I hold to known as "divine accommodation" which isn't all that controversial when applied to other things. Biblical scholars John Walton, Michael Heiser, and Ben Stanhope have spoken of these things in their books such as "The Lost World Of Genesis One", "(Mis)Reading Genesis: How The Creation Museum Misunderstands The Ancient Near Eastern Context Of The Bible", and "The Unseen Realm: Recovering The Supernatural Worldview of The Bible".

    The problem with symbolism that isn't explained explicitly as symbols, I you can use it to say anything you want. Don't get me wrong, the scriptures have many symbolic, and metaphorical statements, and passages, but pretty much all of them are explicitly stated as such. Like how Daniel's vision of the statue is stated in represent kingdoms in the very passages thar describe the visions, and how I the book of rebekation there's the dragon with 10 horns, or something like that, and in that very book I I explicite that the ten horns represent 10 kings. If a Bible passage does not make its symbolism explicit like that, do not try to apply symbolism to it.
