Dick Tracy: Why Doesn't Disney Show This Classic Any Love?
For us 90s kids, Dick Tracy was an interesting monster of a movie. It seemed to take a lot of cues from Tim Burton’s Batman, which was released the previous summer, but it definitely had a distinct voice of its own. Dick Tracy was another classic pulp adaptation of an urban enforcer that had very dynamic visuals and an over-the-top rogues gallery. It even sported a score by Danny Elfman, which would have his signature atmospheric sound. The movie would introduce a generation of young audiences to the 1930’s film noir/ detective movie genre. Additionally, the movie brought back Warren Beatty after a three-year absence when his last film, 1987’s Ishtar, was a big flop. Having a star like Beatty in a big-budget franchise like this was an enormous asset for the re-budding intellectual property. And the star power wouldn’t even stop there.

I love when a Disney movie doesn't look like something done by Disney
Dick Tracy is a beyond underrated and underappreciated gem.
My friends and I got tickets to the advanced showing of this movie. It cost $20.00, which was a lot of money in 1990, but you got a tee-shirt, and the tee-shirt was your ticket. It was Awesome!
Warren Beatty's interpretation of Dick Tracy was way ahead of its time, in my opinion. It was visually stunning, true to the source material, and really created a superhero out of a pulp comic.
"EVERYWHERE I TURN ITS 'TRACY TRACY TRACY!" God bless Al Pacino and his over the top performance. I always found it fun to watch in this movie as well as in other films.
This is one of the few gems they were smart enough not to do a sequel of. It stands alone. It was actually really good. I wish Disney would put it up on Disney+.
This movie actually won multiple Oscars. Best Art Direction, Best Make-Up, and Best Original Song for Stephen Sondheim.
This deserves a 4K
This was a good movie. Beautiful color palette. It’s a shame it’s been forgotten. The Genesis game was good too. I can’t believe he still owns the rights.
I like the movie, but I really want to see Warren Beaty’s preferred longer cut, but Disney had him shorten it
The 90's were so experimental and I miss it so much. Movies could afford to take risks, fail and then make a comeback with VHS rentals. Dick Tracy, The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer... Flawed classics.
Dick Tracy was one of those movies that if you watch it today you would be amazed at how it even got made. The star power in this movie was insane. Very fun film when I watched it as a kid. I really hope current year Disney does not touch it.
This movie and The Shadow were great 90s comic movies
Tracy is a true Comic Toned movie. Warren did a fantastic job. All the sets and characters gave old comic book feel that we don't get anymore. Flat Top & Itchy are my fave duo.
Honestly, one of my top five comic book movies. It just gets so much right visually and on a script level. And the make-up and costumes are out of this world!
Great kids movie too ahead of its time. Pacino and great actor William Forsythe killed it
As mentioned in the credits, the cinematography was done by Vittorio Storora. Who's other films include Apocalypse Now and it shows. Dick Tracy, is one of the best looking comic to screen adaptations ever.
This and The Rocketeer and The Shadow are the best comic book movies of the 90s.
I love Dick Tracy! I watched it in theaters knowing nothing about it. The characters, story, and the look of the film with their vivid colors. Instant classic in my book.
I love your little bit where Big Boys yelling is overlapping itself…genius
