I want to see Dick Tracy now since it’s similar to Batman. Is that young boy similar to Robin? Anyway, I’m definitely going to watch this if it’s available. Because of the heroes and the villains.

asagara34 This movie was a direct rip off of '89 Batman. Danny Elfman did both scores for both movies. Style, cinematography, use of color is all the same. Filming ended in January of '89 for Batman while filming began for Tracy in February '89. Just a coincidence? I think not.

Still a good movie some 30 years later. My older sister worked at the movie theater at the time, and they decided to do a promotion opening night. All the workers dressed as gangsters and flappers, and they asked us if we could display our '47 Lincoln coupe out in front of the theater along with a couple other antique cars. We got free tickets to the movie, and many years later I found the DVD of it.

This is a movie that I associate with one of the few stand out good memories about my dad. He didnt really care much about taking me and my brothers places, or generally spending time with us doing things that mattered to us. I wanted sooo bad to see this movie. I eventually did by my own means in life. Many years later. I was only 6 or 7 when this came out so I couldn't have just waltzed over to the theater. But I dont remember HOW he knew. But one night, my father came home in the evening, and had the actual Dick Tracy action figure hiding behind his back. And he gave it to me. I remember, even at that very young age, feeling a sense of shock and surprise. I didnt know how he knew I wanted it. I dont recall having ever expressed wanting the action figure. I dont know where he got it. I dunno - I dont think I was AS shocked about it at the time as much as I gradually kept getting more shocked about it as the years passed. I mean, he never cared about anything that me and my siblings cared about. He never really was present or paid attention to those kinds of things. But that one time, he got him with a Dick Tracy action figure. Whenever I think about that experience with my dad, it makes me feel like I am thinking about someone else that isn't him.

I was only 10 when this movie released, I don't think it did that well at the box office despite it being heavily promoted. I just remember loving the look of this movie, it's art and it's advertised items were everywhere, and it's toy line from Playmates was great. I was big on comic book art and cartoons at the time, I begin being able to draw some characters, so this movie just dazzled me with it's look and artistic style, especially the villains. I still love it for that look and style it had, till today.

I was 7 at the time this movie came out. Back then, much of pop culture was tied to the greatest generation ( WWII) era. This movie is proof of that. Although, I sometimes wonder if our generation was hit or miss, with appreciating the legacy that they left for us.

@@VitoVeccia Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember 80's and 90's pop culture tied to WW2 generation. I remember 50's and 60's culture being big in pop culture then. Similarly to how current pop culture is heavily tied to 80's and 90's pop culture.

@@JamesCH08 It was really suttle back then. And now that I think of it, might not have been embedded in pop culture to the extent that I originally thought. Maybe more of a reminder of the past. I remember the ancient Merry Melodies reruns were all over the TV. As well as the war being mentioned on the news during memorial day, or the episodes of TV shows like highway to heaven (episode-To bind wounds). As well as learning about WWII by fourth and fifth grade. Maybe it's just me. I knew some of those old war heros, and I used to love listening them tell stories.

@@VitoVeccia I understand, it's just that I remember shows like Lassie Mr Ed Star Trek I Dream Of Jennie Bewitched Gilligan's Island I Love Lucy Wonder Years Movies like Back To The Future Stand By Me Dirty Dancing Platoon Full Metal Jacket And even music like the come backs of plenty of Motown artists. Hell even songs like The Bus Boys - The Boys Are Back In Town, all of this pop culture having a heavy appreciation to the fifties and sixties. Not saying that I don't remember the Looney Tunes playing all the time, but I definitely remember allot of this 50's & 60's content all over the place during the eighties. Hell, come to think of it, it was a heavy appreciation of the 60's & 70's during the 90's and early 2000's. Now it's the 80's & 90's being put out in pop culture, I think it just comes in cycles. Every few decades they have shows, and pop culture that appreciate the past few time periods of yester years, soon it'll be shows and content, about the early 2000's.

Problem was it was 1990. Few people outside of Baby Boomers or younger Silent Generation even knew who Warren Beatty was because he made maybe some 20 movies over a 30 year career. He was the most picky. To this day, he’s still an unknown with most. And having Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and James Caan didn’t help because their performances were kept in secret up to release. Madonna. Even horny Generation X’ers didn’t flock to see this, the core moviegoers at the time. The movie wasn’t a box office flop, but could have done a lot better!

While Touchstone did ultimately distribute Dick Tracy, it was originally marketed under the "Walt Disney Pictures" banner to bring in a wider audience, but then switched the film over to Touchstone Pictures due to the more adult oriented tone and scenes that didn't make it suitable for young children.
