You just need a 20v to 12v step down also AC or DC dosent pertain to these type of batteries. Straight 20v will fry your pump the extra voltage has to go somewhere. I use the same set up in a portable feeder for kid goats. Works like a charm been using the same battery for 8ish months now

You would burn it up pretty quickly with 20v battery
