Excellent presentation. I've been low carb since October 2021 after being diagnosed with diabetes (successfully remitted and now metabolically healthy yay!) and there was very little support available at that time. It is good to see that this is now being addressed. I have watched a large number of videos since that time and still watch them for ideas, learning and encouragement and I also enjoy hearing stories of people who are succeeding with improving their health by changing what they eat. I also want to add that this was a good overview, providing a broad amount of information with enough explanation without going too deep and being overwhelming (this can make it stressful and confusing and make it harder for people to make the decision to start). I'd like to encourage people to at the very least try it. I didn't know if it would work and made the decision to be serious about it for 3 months. After only about 1 week I noticed that me sleep quality improved. It's now been >2.5 years.

We love hearing success stories and your advice is so helpful. Treat low carb as a gentle experiment and see if it makes you feel any different. Most people see an almost immediate improvement to blood glucose and experience other health benefits such as weight loss, better sleep and increased energy within weeks. If you like a bit of inspo, feel free to read through some of the Defeat Diabetes Low Carb Program success stories here --> www.defeatdiabetes.com.au/success-stories/

Great broadcast with some good sense recommendations, especially the one about slowly lowering your carb intake which I did at first and it worked fine. My A1C dropped from 9.0 to 5.9 (American units). Then I fell off the wagon. 😮 Tired of feeling like crap and wanting to keep all ten of my toes I had to change. My A1C was 11. 🤯 I decided to bring my carbs down as close to zero as possible. Well, now I know what Keto flu is. 😁 I stuck it out and it took 2 weeks to get my energy back and get rid of the brain fog, but I'm on the other side. A1C is 6.2 now down from 11. Just have to keep on keepin on. Hopefully everyone else does to. Don't beat yourself up when you screw up. 👍

We're working on this! Diabetes Australia recognises there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to diet, but fully supports people wanting to adopt low carb. This is why we've partnered with them to promote the Defeat Diabetes Low Carb Program for people who want support as they transition their diet. Great presentation from fabulous speakers from the low carb community. That Diabetes Australia has now embraced options is a wonderful breakthrough. So many people can now benefit from the power of lowering carbohydrates and hence insulin. Hyperinsulinaemia is rife.

We're so pleased you enjoyed the webinar! Diabetes Australia has had a low carb positioning statement for a number of years, so it's fabulous to be able to partner with them on this initiative and raise awareness of low carb as one option for people wanting to improve blood glucose management and achieve remission. You can read more our partnership with Diabetes Australia here --> www.defeatdiabetes.com.au/resources/diabetes-australia-and-defeat-diabetes-announce-partnership/

@@defeatdiabetes I remember the day the position statement came out and cut n pasted it into patient notes if ever I discussed low carb as an option. I also sent it to the GP's and nurses in my building.

I'm a recovering type II diabetic. I don't eat bread at all because it has sugar in it. I was surprised at that until I realized why they add it...because if they didn't it would taste like cardboard. Ditto with "healthy" cereal. What?! Special K and Total have sugar in it?! Yep, it does. 😢 I can eat Avocados everyday as I live in Texas so the cost is fairly low since we get them from Mexico and California.

Hi Evan, at Defeat Diabetes Low Carb Program we recommend limiting carbs to 50g a day to help manage your blood glucose and eliminate medication. Whether they be simple or complex carbs, all carbs are metabolised into sugar in your bloodstream eventually. That's why we don't recommend following low GI if you're trying to improve your blood glucose levels. More on this here --> www.defeatdiabetes.com.au/resources/low-carb/the-essential-guide-to-low-carb-vs-low-gi/

@@defeatdiabetes Thanks. I tend to low carb due to Roy Taylor - I found his book after I was diagnosed with type-2 four years ago (I ignored the idea of meal replacement shakes, seems like a dopey idea). So I started doing a walk each day, eliminating junk food and the four whites mostly, and this has mostly worked. Blood sugar back close to normal for the last three years or so. I put on a little weight and am having trouble losing it - it seems (current theory) to be due to too much cheese (I seem to start losing a little when I eat less cheese, not less fruit - apples and mandarins). I do eat nuts, almonds and cashews, which may not help.

These experts have no clue the single biggest factor in both forms of diabetes is that dietary fat causes insulin resistance eat extremely low-fat under 10 g per day, and a high carbohydrate diet to improve insulin sensitivity. Fond, then you’ve ever done before, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

There's significant evidence proving that a low carb diet can lead to remission from type 2 diabetes. In fact, 2 in 3 of our own members achieved blood glucose levels in the non-diabetes range. (There's also excellent evidence showing how low carb can help manage BGLs for type 1 diabetes too) Low carb is sustainable and enjoyable. You might like to read our summary of the evidence here: www.defeatdiabetes.com.au/resources/science/show-me-the-evidence-a-low-carb-approach-to-managing-type-2-diabetes/
