Didn’t the other kid technically cheat too? I mean, during tug of war, he knew that the other kids were going to cheat, but didn’t tell anyone. He may not have done it himself, but he was definitely complicit.

If the game ends as soon as a winning case is picked, then there is no advantage. The first kid has a 1/3 chance to pick the winning case. After that, the second kid as a 1/2 chance to pick the winning case, but only get to make that choice if the first kid picked the wrong case (2/3 chance), so they also only have a 1/3 chance of winning
