Ойындар

Sponsored by THQ Nordic. Outcast first launched in 1999 delivering state-of-the-art voxel-driven visuals in what was then a novel open-world design - but its sequel never landed... until now. Great video! As someone who’s been making Outcast content since 2014 (and named their channel based on it) I’m so happy to see the series get wider recognition! So many people have missed out on Outcast, and just reading the enthusiasm and intrigue in these comments is making me hopeful for even more Outcast games in the future! I’m loving the game so far!

Had a similar reaction when I learned about this game, I kind of want to acquire a period appropriate PC to play it and really drive home what a technical marvel it is. I'm a somewhat disappointed that the new game doesn't try to do at least one super ambitious thing like the 1999 game.

The game that had the most impact on me. It was the first game that really took me to another world. Having a blast with outcast 2 on pc at the moment. So much variety and freedom and the vista's look awesome. And still a lot of classic outcast moments in dialogue and gameplay. Music still incredible. I bought al the reboots and digital editions and also backed the kickstarter. Now I have the adelpha edition of outcast 2, so glad this could have happened.

I remember playing the Nomad Soul and Outcast on PC in 1999. My PC was absolutely choking on the latter in 512x284 and I mostly played it in 320x240. Incredible game for its time. Tech was impressive, orchestral music was great and art direction was quite unique despite the obvious Stargate inspiration. Truly a gem that unfortunately many missed out on. Outcast is literally the reason why when I played GTA3 2 years later, I thought it was obviously a great game but was not nearly as impressive tech-wise as the console press made it out to be. I think most people who had seen open world games on PC earlier would have felt the same.

I loved this game. I was in my first job following medical school, at the Royal Hospital Haslar (no longer exists), and I was a civilian, in a military Mess. Silver service for every meal, leave your shoes outside your door to get them polished by the morning… I was a fish out of water! But I could build a big-rig gaming PC, and Outcast was my escape. The parallels between the sense of military-clashes-with-civilian in-game and my quirky circumstances, was somehow comforting. There orchestral-score, sense of blissed-out exploration and the voxel engine were the escape I needed. I too spent years waiting for the sequel - and it never came. Now, I live down-under, own my own clinic, and while there are still disconnects, I think I can return to Adelpha as a tourist, and enjoy that playfulness, that I always associated with Francophone Devs. Hooray! Sometimes it’s great that there is noting new under the (alien) sun - I hope this ‘drags’ modern players back to the original game too, it did not deserve to be lost to time, just because it trod a different graphical path than the polygonal route that came to dominate.

A dozen hours into this enjoying it a lot. It's nice to play something cheerful and a bit kooky. The jetpack and gliding are very nice. The way it guides you through its own quest logs suggests they know they've laid the subquests on a bit thick, so it's important to mix that stuff with just zooming off to see what's elsewhere...

I really enjoyed the sequel. I'm kinda surprised how it still feels like authentic good ol's outcast exoerience despite its bigger, and more ambitious scope. Sure, some things in it are very rough and feels like the usual modern open world bloat (not a big fan of those temples activities thing, the fact that those are required for health upgrade makes me hated it even more, it would be great if they're puzzle based like zelda and not this arbitrary "superman 64-like" ordeal) and pretty clunky menu (the act of saving and loading a game is quite a chore), but it gives me more of good times rather than bad. Oh and gotta LOVE the worldbuilding. Its still impressive that a team this small achieve a game this big and rich. Kudos to Appeal team, their dream sequel finally beautifully realized.

@@MrStrangermoonAs good as ray-tracing? I’m not dissing Nocturne by any means as I do think it used real-time shadow-mapping really well, but have you seen how much aliasing the edges of the shadows have in the game? That was to prevent late-1990s processors from choking to death, although as the game was almost entirely software-rendered under the hood it still doesn’t run great on powerful CPUs like the Pentium III Katmai (let alone the Pentium II), even with a top-of-the-line 3D card. There is a demo for a 1999 game called Seed (full game was cancelled) that uses real-time shadow-mapping almost as extensively as Nocturne but allowed you to adjust the resolution of the shadow-mapping to really make CPUs of the time scream for mercy. I would however love for Nocturne to be covered (as it is an excellent action-horror romp), along with early Matrox G400-accelerated/EMBM-supported games (that isn’t Expendable) like Dungeon Keeper 2 and Battlezone II

The original game is my favourite game of all time, even after placing the pre-order I didn't dare to hope, I tempered my expectations as much as possible to avoid disappointment. Now 20+ hours into a New Beginning I need not have worried. The game is a true sequel to Outcast; the world building and dialogue still sparkle as they did in 1999, the new traversal mechanics and the way the level design takes advantage of them is sublime. Some of the quest design is a little weaker than the original without the big pay off moments and the plot doesn't quite have the same sparkle but overall I have nothing but admiration for the team that refused to give up on the game they'd held in their minds and hearts for nearly 30 years

They throw you right in instead of having to grind for all the cool stuff. My biggest gripe is the performance issues on PC with areas that are CPU bottlenecked, like the first village area. Frametimes and 1% lows arent very good. Hope they can fix this with patches.
