Dewalt Pole Saw (Battery Operated) - Out of Box Review - Work Smarter not Harder!

This is my intial review of a 15' battery operated pole saw made by Dewalt. It didn't take long for me to realize that this might be the best tool a deer hunter can have when it comes to clearing out trees for hanging stands and making shooting lanes.

    I just got mine a couple days ago, and so far I am well pleased. Just a couple thoughts, not sure if you mentioned it or not. Like any chainsaw, make sure the chain is running before you make contact with the wood. Second, while I realize everyone's needs are different, for me, I generally only have a few limbs at a time I cut. So instead of even using the oiler, I just have an old pump oil gun, like grandpa use to have (yes you can still get them) and just give the chain/bar a couple squirts of bar oil, every now and then. For me, least for now, it's much better than filling that oil tank and then having to deal with it when storing. Of course if I had a big trimming job, I would use the oil tank.

    Thanks for sharing, mate! ~~~IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! According to Dewalt Service Tech, "the pole saw (even brand new) MUST be stored horizontally with cap upright (cardboard piece under chain mechanism for extra protection) to prevent chain oil leakage. Otherwise, drain the chain oil if you're not willing to store in this recommended manner." I lost the entire oil reservoir twice upon 1st two usages because I stored it vertically in the box. Dewalt, IMO, should put this oil warning info in BOLD LETTERING under oil section of owner's manual. I had to call a Dewalt Service Center to get the skinny on this nugget of truth.

    You are correct sir! Truth is, I quit using bar and chain oil in mine to just avoid the hassle. I've used it many times now dry and we will see how long it goes before one or the other wears out.... Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I have the karcher version which I love - but there are little things about the dewalt such as the key storage on the scabbard which is so clever and convenient.

    Just a safety tip when messing with the chain as in tightening it or cleaning, just remove the battery first. It take 2 seconds to do that and no worries about fingers.

    I can tell you it cuts through limbs like butter! A 3" or 4" limb might take 5 seconds. The downside is that it's pretty heavy! Holding it at a 60 degree angle for any length of time will give your arms a workout!

    I've put it through some abuse since this video was made and it's holding up well. It's a bit flimsy with the extension but it gets the job done. If you already have the batteries it makes a lot of sense to go with this brand. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    At about the 6:50 mark you cut the trunk of a pine tree and a 5/6, both cuts performed horizontally about waist high. When I try cutting branches as low as my waist or lower my DeWalt turns off as I'm holding the button down. If I raise it to cut something where my arms extend at least chest high it works again. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

    There must be a connection issue with your saw. Possible where the poles connect together. It should work no matter how you hold it. Other than that, there must be a defect of some kind if you are sure that your battery is good.

    Serious answer here... just quit using oil. It'll last a long time without oil, if you don't use the saw every day. Worst case scenario is you'd have to replace the bar and chain in a year or two but you don't have to deal with the mess. I haven't put oil in mine for almost two years, but I don't use it real often. Still haven't needed to replace the bar or chain.

  • @joeking433

    The crazy thing is that the instructions said you are to empty the oil out of the reservoir after every use! Really? Does anyone do this?

  • @UncleBucks

    @UncleBucks

    Жыл бұрын

    I doubt it! Truth is, I quit putting oil in mine at all. I just keep running it dry. Eventually, the bar and chain will wear out and I will need to replace them, but I've gotten by for a long time using it this way. Doesn't leak out when there's nothing in it to leak!

    Are you sure your battery is good and that the chain isn't jammed up with debris around the sprocket or chain wedged up somehow? Maybe try it with the bar off and see if it works, then you've got it nailed down to the bar and chain being the issue.

  • @oobenoob

    @oobenoob

    @@UncleBucksagreed. Any chain saw device requires routine maintenance pretty much every time you use it. I use canned air on mine to remove the bits and pieces picked up during a session.

  • @UncleBucks

    @UncleBucks

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks. At first, I'd store it with an old shirt or cardboard underneath and let it leak. I never drained it. Now, if I plan to do a lot of cutting with it at one time, I fill it and try to use up the oil. If I don't plan to cut a lot at once, I don't bother putting oil in it at all. I've done this dozens of times and still use the original bar and chain.

    You're welcome! I don't believe there's anything other than an 8 inch bar available for this saw. You would likely not have adequate power out of the electric motor with a 16" bar on this saw.
