I own that saw. It's a beast. Yes will do fine with the 4- 5amp battery but used with bigger batteries and it's unstoppable. Puts my gas chainsaw to shame and of course the low noise and maintenance makes it worth every penny.

Amen to that comment ! I love the fact it has no vibration or noise 👍👍👍👍
I do landscaping and I’ve had a couple of Stihl electric chainsaws for about 3 years now. I find myself using the electric saws far more often than the gas saws now. The convenience of not having to mess with gas and a pull starter is a game changer.
PS. The notion that you regularly need to discharge lithium-ion batteries to make them last is FALSE. Quite the opposite: Recharging after just a small depletion will actually prolong them.
I just picked up this 12 inch 20v after some recent winter weather down here in Texas… every Lowe’s Home Depot and tractor supply I went to was out of small gas chainsaws… decided hey I’ve got 4 and 5 amp hour dewalt batteries and grabbed this… worked like a charm… I was using it in oak (live oak and red oak) and magnolia(some limbs were 8ish inches in diameter)

I tried the 1.5 Ah batteries just for fun and they run the saw well enough to keep cutting when the big batteries are drained. Pretty impressive!

It’s impressive for sure but I do need a larger battery if I want to use it all day. But for quick jobs it’s perfect and I have to deal with getting my gas saw out and ready
Congratulations on still having all of your limbs, its a miracle.

Nice job guys they come in handy. I have a blk-decker works great for what I use it for. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.
I have this saw, I prefer the big battery pack, because it does last longer. However, I made the mistake of buying two big battery packs and that was a bad idea, because after using one battery pack, the motor gets warm and freezes up till it cools down again.

I agree one big battery would do the job for sure 👍👍
Cool that was a handy tool.. did a good job for a battery powered chainsaw.. Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
Sunny Slope Homesteads chain saw battery operated testing longevity Dewalt Listening from Mass USA TYVM 💙 Mike and Melissa
Heat, Overcharge and Full discharge do kill lithium battery. Well, it kill the weakest of the cell in the pack. Meaning a 20v row of a defective battery usually have 1/5 of it actually defective. The big battery (4 row) will not become hot as fast and will last longer than 2 smaller ones(2 row). Its not recommended but with a bigger battery you can upgrade to a faster cutting Full Edge chain and/or a longer blade. Both will use more power and may burn the motor if not carefully use. Usually electric chansaw come with an half edge chain, because its cheaper, safer to use, and last longer both for the teets and the motor.

All I know is I love this little saw and hood to know now on the batteries, some think their indestructible
I agree on the batteries... And on the size of the wood - my 4aH ones will last most of a good days work on little stuff, say up to 4-5"... Once you start hitting 6-8"+ stuff (a lot of ash & hickory in my yard) it gets tougher, and the more you stress that little motor the more it's gonna draw on the battery. I'm betting if I were cutting strictly 8"+ ash I'd maybe get 2 hours out of a regular battery. That being said, by the time you go through two batteries you've probably got another couple hours of picking up wood to stack, maybe splitting, etc, so as a homeowner that works out just fine.
I loved my little battery powered saw. Perfect for camping!
I just got mine and used it to cut a massive tire in half for the goats. It has way more torque than my gas one. But I went through batteries like crazy

I'm so glad your goats got their tires cut. It's not talked about often, but goats and uncut tires really don't mix.
I have the same saw Except I put the 16” Bar&chain Used it to cut two 40ft mulberry trees Using the 5ah batteries Didn’t have any problems with it
LOL, WE’RE OK MIKE. 😁 Thanks Mike for the review on the chainsaw. I have the Dewalt blower and hedge clippers and use the same batteries as Nick’s drills. I have wanted a battery operated chainsaw for awhile.Nick hid my gas one from me. I WILL have me a Dewalt battery chainsaw. Thanks Mike. 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍

My biggest use for those flexvolt 9ah batteries is in one of those shop fans dewalt has. Where we live you shake a stick at the power line during a normal storm and the power goes out. I need a fan to sleep. Also have one of those small work lights. And one of the 12v magnet lights. We use them when the power goes out so we don't need to burn candles. Also can change up our cellphones with the attachment about 5 or more times fully. Shoot found more uses for all these batteries. I considered getting that 1800 watt power station inverter from dewalt with those 12ah flexvolt battery to run the refrigerator and run it until power is back unless it's out for multiple days. Also those battery replacement from Amazon that's a better price i tend to get them.
Uless you are pro lumberjack I can't see the point of owning a gas chainsaw anymore. The battery power is quite enough for yard work.
Yeah, that little thing did a great job. I have the 60V version but have not used it yet.

To be honest.. the 4-5AH battery works just fine. When I need to do quick trimming I just use a 2AH battery. Its way more easier than trying to start Stihl gas powered saw and I've cut logs that were way larger than 12" diameter. Just use a narrow kerf chain and don't overload it and it will cut through just about anything.
Man that did an Awesome job. Awesome video

IF DeWalt cared about it's customers, they would make their battery chargers with a storage charge function. If you can get the cells to between 3.7-3.85v, the battery can be stored for a long time and not go bad. Keeping it dead or fully charged will degrade the batteries. I 3D printed an adapter and wired up a balance plug and an XT60 so I can use my hobby charger I use for my drones to keep the batteries at storage voltage.
Does it leak bar oil when the saw sits somewhere for a while?
Did Chip have anything to do with the tree falling on your fence? I know you said it split...but, is there any way it could have fallen in some other direction?

On the oil cap, you see that divet that goes all the way around? Just slide an o-ring over it you'll be fine.
@CC-xs1hh
2 жыл бұрын
Yes Dakolby is correct , I've been doing some YT research on dewalt chainsaws, I saw another video about the two upgrades to do on this saw, and a 5/8 or 3/4 orind will take care of oil cap leak, (actually looks like it's missing a o-ring) and yes every chainsaw I've ever had also leaks because of the chain bar oil feed system just slowly leaks as its designed to do. I personally do not own a large lot, so I just do small jobs as needed , so I always drain the bar oil between uses because it may be several months between uses. This is a great inside video from someone that really uses and needs a saw often, and REALLY makes me realize I do NOT need that expensive lg battery. (sorry didn't mean to go on n on)

Lithium are usually 500 to 1000 cycles depending on the use. But way less cycles if overheated, overcharged or fully drained. I would say less than 50 cycles if you fully drain and overheat the cells. Lithium need their BMS for protection, but its not fool proof.
